Default MIX292: Impressible Stamp!

Title: Impressible Stamp!
Hostess: Janelle Stollfus (aka dizzymommie)
Keyword: MIX292

See the challenge gallery for ideas!

I've been impressed lately, well obsessed with letterpress and thought there needs to be a way to use all of my stamps to make DIY letterpress style projects.

Our challenge this week is to impress a stamped image onto paper to make it look like it's letterpress!

It's hard to photograph, but can you see that the "d" is depressed into the paper?

The setup to do this uses supplies you already have for stamping!

  • Red Rubber stamp
  • Waterproof Ink Pad
  • Rubber/Silicone Embossing Mat for your die-cutting machine,
  • or a Foam Pad
  • Acrylic block or stiff flat book
  • Water Spray Bottle
  • Paper Towels
My "sandwich" and instructions
  1. Place the rubber stamp up on a flat surface.
  2. Ink stamp.
  3. Spray cardstock with water on both sides and pat away puddles of water with paper towel.
  4. Place the paper on top of the stamp.
  5. Carefully place foam/silicone mat over it and then the acrylic block.
  6. Press down in the center of the sandwich.
  7. Carefully remove layers and let your stamped image dry between clean paper towels with something heavy over it. Or quick dry with a heat tool. Note that the paper will curl when using the heat tool, but it's mixed media so you might want that look!
Have fun with this, make an impression however you want ~ use two or more mediums ~ and then upload to your gallery with the keyword "MIX292"! I can't wait to see what you make!

Hard to photograph because of the dimension and the metallic shimmer. I did my best. I think paper casting would probably have worked for the challenge, but didn't have time to start that off before work - and I'm sure it wouldn't work with a sentiment. There is a slight impression on my sentiment, but not much, despite my best efforts. The very best effort didn't stamp evenly and went in the bin.

I tried and tried but could not get a good 'letterpress' impression that you could actually see! but I got a card made that worked a bit but you cannot see it in the photo - I will keep trying with different stamps! thanks for the challenge! Paper casting worked surprisingly well - once I changed the ink on the stamp. I was using Archival thinking it would minimise bleed when in contact with the wet paper, but both yesterday and first time today it failed to give me a good stamped image - so second time today I switched to Versamark and had much better luck.

When I featured this as a TLC, someone sent me the card they had made that Christmas, and it stood up well to international mailing so I have faith this this will too.

And here's an angled close-up:
