Challenge Title: MIX279- Pull it
Hostess:MariLynn
Keyword:MIX279
Hello mixability lovers. Last week Kyra gave the challenge to push it, and this week I am challenging you to pull it. My challenge is to do PULLED STRING technique.
Lydia shared a version of this technique with the TLC669 string with reinkers.
I don't have a lot of reinkers but I think I would like this.
I saw this video on that used string and acrylic paint.
I tried it with paint. It was fun to do.
I wondered if you could do it with versamark and embossing powders. Well, the answer is yes.
Here are some tips that I have from my own experimenting.
1. It can be messy so protecting your work area with some newspaper is a good idea.
2. Lydia used a paper plate and a glove in her video. What worked for me was putting the paint in a ziplock bag and putting the string in the bag. Then I sealed the bag and squished it around from the outside. It helped keep my fingers clean.
3. Type of string makes a little difference. I tried yarn, twine and embroidery floss. They all gave different looks, but what I liked the best was the embroidery floss.
4. If you want to do it with versamark, like I did, I curled the embroidery floss into a pile on top of my ziplock bag and I pushed the versmark ink pad right onto the pile of embroidery floss. I pushed it down several times.
When I was done pulling, I sprinkled embossing powder and used heat gun to melt powder.
5. Lydia used a phone book to get the pressure. I just used my hand to apply pressure. I liked it better that way because I felt like I could have a better feel for what the string was doing, but it just comes down to personal preference
6 I experimented with black cardstock. I used gold and red paint and it showed up really good on the dark background.
What variations will you experiment with?
I know it is hard to try something new, but just tell yourself it is only paper. Give yourself permission to try something new and have fun
To be a true mixed media project it needs more than one crafting medium. On my card I used versamark ink and embossing powder. I added textiles, metal (brads, coffee cup charm, and pearl stick pins) I also used markers.
Be sure to use this week's keyword MIX279 when uploading your project.
I look forward to seeing your creations.
This is a fun technique. You really get two pages - she messed
up the second one several times when she used the same paper to blot the second
pressing. I would use a new paper for each blotting. The designs are fantastic.
I'll try to versamark/embossing technique. My ladies would like that one. I'll leave
it up to them if they want to try the ink. thanks for sharing.
