Default MIX247 Alcohol on water backgrounds- 10-20-17

Hostess:MariLynn
Title:MIX247 Alcohol on water backgrounds 10-20-17
Keyword:MIX247
Gallery: Here

The challenge this week is 247. I like to think that 24-7 I am creating and making art. And when I'm not creating, I dreaming about it, or learning new techniques.

The technique I am sharing is not new, but it was a new one to me.
1.You need a disposable container. I used one of those containers that lunch meat is sold in.
2. You need water. I experimented with hot and cold and got different looks.
3. You need alcohol inks.
4. You need white cardstock that will fit in the disposable container.

You put water in the container and drop alcohol inks on to the water. Then you lay the cardstock on top or drag the card stock through the water.

The alcohol ink will transfer to the paper. This is a technique that I love because no two projects will turn out the same

Like I said I experimented with hot and cold water. The difference that I saw was that with cold water the ink made bigger blobs because it didn't spread out as much. The hot water made the ink move around more.

Here is a video I found that shows how to do this technique.

Doing this technique will give you a background and a base to start with, but to make it mixed media you need to add a few more types of crafting medium. I added watercoloring, stamping with ink, colored pencils, and textiles to my projects.

I asked my friend Pam to help me make some samples. I hope you enjoy.
Please use keyword:MIX247 so you projects will show up in this challenge's gallery.

This looks and sounds like fun...and wouldn't you know it, the first Friday that I have been in work for over two months ( normally these days it's my day off) and with overtime at that...so while I hope to try it later I probably won't get anything uploaded till tomorrow. Thanks for the early post, MariLynn, much appreciated. I've done this with chalk and that was fun but a very soft effect; your backgrounds look gorgeous.

I had to do this downstairs, not prepared to try carrying a shallow dish of water up the ladder. It was fun - still have a couple more backgrounds and one fail.

Backgrounds drying for later as I head out to shop with DD. I even remembered to use gloves so I wouldn't have inky fingers!

A little blotchy and splotchy, but it worked. Thanks for the challenge.

I don't have any alcohol ink yet, so I just placed an order. I *had* to! Hope they show up super fast so I can play too. Thanks for the push. They have been on my wish list for a year!

Don’t know what I am doing with my panels yet , but did them and they are drying. Mine didn’t come out as vivid. And when I put drops in water, they spread instead of like they did in video. Maybe my alcohol inks are too old? Be back later with a card.

um, ok, so I was too impatient for Joann's to deliver my alcohol inks, so I made up my own process haha I added a little rubbing alcohol to a shallow dish, then dropped in a droppers full of various colors Distress Inks. Interestingly, all the ink stayed in perfectly round dots, but sank to the bottom and stayed there. I slipped the paper in, but had to press it down to the bottom just to get to the ink. I tried white card stock and watercolor paper and got 2 very different results....NEITHER of which look like your samples! LOL They are drying, but will post when I have made something with them. Just an FYI, a dish full of rubbing alcohol really stinks! If you try this, open a window first, trust me.

Here are the 2 cards I made with the above paper. I hope my alcohol inks come soon, and I can try with similar colors, and see how different they look!

What type of paper works best for this? I'd like to try it!

Blustery Halloween uses up the last of my usable pieces - the fourth one will get punched and die-cut as it wasn't very presentable looking.

Finally found my alcohol reinkers! I did a few pieces and they are drying. The best piece I used photo paper. The rest I used regular card stock and watercolor paper. I'll try to finish them off this week.
