MIX224 - Paint a Rock (5/12/2017)
Challenge Title: Paint a Rock Hostess: dini (Dina K)
Keyword: MIX224 VIEW THE GALLERY FOR THIS CHALLENGE HERE
Happy Mix-Ability day! Just wanted to challenge you to do something different today! There is an activity in my little town called "Warsaw Rocks!", and I've heard of this being done in other areas as well. Rocks are painted with a fun design or positive message, and then abandoned or hidden around town. Whoever finds the rock can keep it or give it a new hiding place for someone else to discover. Fun, huh?
For this week's challenge, paint a rock! Acrylic paint and craft paint work really well. Try paint markers, permanent inks, metallic rubs - whatever you have that will stick! I purchased a bag of smooth black rocks for a buck at the Dollar Tree, but any rock is fair game, big or small!
Use the end of a paint brush or a stylus to dot paint in a fun design, brush out a picture... or if your rock has a good flat spot, try stamping an image!
Add a power word or a positive message too. Next time you're out, tuck it somewhere it will be found. You never know who might need a positive word!
Remember, for your project to truly qualify as mixed media, you need to use at least 2 different types of art media. You can click HERE for a list of supplies you could choose from.
Please remember to put in the correct keyword (MIX224) when uploading your image. Copying and pasting the challenge keyword is recommended to avoid typos. Then come back to this thread and paste a link to the card in your gallery so we can all ooh and ahhh! Go forth and create!

My apologies for not playing along today, I did a pebble project earlier this year and think I'll give the time today to one of my need-to-do projects. But they are lovely! I remember a shop round the corner from a favourite restaurant in Paris used to have a window display of little painted pebbles with inspirational words, and I always enjoyed taking time to stop and look. Must be fun to just find one lying around.

I can't play this time and I really don't got a pebble or stone or rock to paint, next time better, but I love the idea

What a fun challenge, Dina!!
A story for you grandmothers! My youngest son, and the favorite uncle of my granddaughter, were outside and looking at all the rocks in the flower beds around their house. My son told his niece that they needed more color and she should use her chalk to make them prettier.
Well, the next day as the other grandmother was babysitting, Teresa made her color rocks with her for hours on end!! When the other grandmother asked her why, she said it was Uncle that said they would be so much prettier with more color!!
Needless to say, the other grandmother was not especially happy with my son!! I however had a great laugh!!!!
I will have to paint a few rocks as the grandchild love to look at all the rocks at our house too!! Painting different words on them would be such fun for them to find!

I will rock hunt soon! Won't the acrylic paints wash off if I put the stone outside somewhere? Maybe a fixative spray after painting?

Yeah, you might try a clear coat of varnish on it. I haven't sealed mine yet... I have some varnish and some clear Krylon spray - not sure which I will use.

Hi Dina, I used varnish on mine but smeared it badly because I had outlined everything with a black marker. I like the way it turned out with the mistake, it looks aged this way Next time I will spray. Thanks for a fun challenge, I felt like a kid again!

My granddaughter and I just painted rocks last weekend. We put them in planters around our garden. I still have some so now after I'm done, I'll leave it around town. This is a fun activity for all levels.
