Default MIX133 - Delicate Flower (8/14/2015)

Challenge Title: Delicate Flower
Hostess: Scrapacat (Ky)
Keyword: MIX133
VIEW THE GALLERY FOR THIS CHALLENGE HERE

Happy Mix-Ability day! Are you ready for a new challenge? I'm looking at all my sad flowers wilting in the heat and what feels like 6 months of drought (sorry Lydia, yeah, the D word).

I've been seeing many people using crepe paper to make a flower. Let's try it together, ok? Use it on your project and tell me about the weather where you are!

I took about 12 inches of white crepe paper - really cheap. You could also use tissue paper. I folded the paper like a map with each fold measuring about an inch wide.

I trimmed the raw edges to look more like the round of a petal. I carefully applied glue to the open ends, and {can you believe it?} dipped it into glitter!! I pulled it apart, touching up the glitter and glue here and there, then let it dry. I cut the strip on every other fold.

I pinched it in the middle and glued it onto a scrap base of cardstock. I kept adding layers of glittered crepe paper, then added a big rhinestone. I can't believe I used glitter and lived!

Now it's your turn. Think about the variety of things you could adhere to the flower petal edges - flocking, flower soft, glass beads!

Remember, for your project to truly qualify as mixed media, you need to use at least 2 different types of art media. You can click HERE for a list of supplies you could choose from. If you want to start these challenges in the pages of an art journal instead of a card, or on scrapbook pages, or on 3D items - please know - ANYTHING is welcome! We want you to learn and enjoy!

Please remember to put in the correct keyword (MIX133) when uploading your image. Copying and pasting the challenge keyword is recommended to avoid typos. Then come back to this thread and paste a link to the card in your gallery so we can all ooh and ahhh! Go forth and create!

Thanks for the early post, Ky, it's great having time to think while I'm at work. I think mine will have to be tissue paper; the only crÍpe paper I have is black ( bought for Lydia's paper doll tutorial), and I'm not sure about black flowers . Yours looks beautiful! Especially the glitter, I'm glad it didn't kill you.

I suspect crepe paper would work better, but am happy enough with this:
MIX133 Flower Fun
I also have on my desk, in case I get time to try it, that thin foam sheeting that you sometimes get to protect things? I've used it for snow in the past, but I think it might make a pretty flower. Thanks, Ky!

You can totally rock black flowers...and Halloween is a couple of months away. Not sure if you do Halloween cards tho. You can still rock the black flowers.
