Default MIX383 Feeling Stabby? 5-29-20

Hostess: MariLynn
Title: Feeling Stabby?
Keyword: MIX383

Some states are opening up but I notice that people have been acting a little stabby, grumpy, fussy. Especially since we all have different opinions based on our own needs and experiences.

It made me think of a technique lover's challenge that we did in 2007. Gallery at Splitcoaststampers That technique is called Japanese Stab Binding.

I tried to give a clue last week with my projects as to my challenge this week. Now I did my binding on albums but it isn't limited to albums or book binding. You can do it on a card if you so wish. When we did this technique in 2007 I did it on a card. You can see that card Japanese Stab binding joy by MariLynn at Splitcoaststampers.

Here is a video showing how to do it.

If you are making a card you will only need the 2 "Covers" if you are going to make an album just add more pages in between the covers.

I made my covers out of cardstock and the pages out of typing paper. You could make the pages out of water color paper, or designer paper, or you could make what is called a junk journal by using scraps of whatever paper you find handy. I am going to make an album today that I will post later that is made from the bulletins that my church hands out at each service, that I don't toss and they usually end up in my bible taking up space. I thought that they would be fun to use for a junk bible art journal.

Now if you still are thinking I don't know that I want to play along because I don't want to try this technique, I still want to make it so easy that you have no excuses. Here are some adaptations so you can still play.
1. If you are feeling stabby, maybe make a mixed media card that uses a snarky sentiment.
2. Make a mixed media encouragement card for someone who you think is feeling a little stabby.
3. Make a mixed media wedding card for someone being bound by marriage.
4. Psalm 147:3 He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Make a mixed media card for someone who is brokenhearted or grieving.

If you are doing the Japanese Stab Binding technique so that is counts as mixed media, show some mixed media on the cover of your card or album.

My cover was made from 11"x5" piece of white cardstock folded in half. The pages were 5 pieces of 10.5"x 4.5" piece of typing paper folded in half. I started with cover. I punched holes along the folded edge I punched .25" in from fold. I punched 4 hole in all. The first was at .5" second was at 2" third was at 3" and fourth was at 4.25" I then used the cover with the punched holes with a pencil to mark where to punch the holes for the pages. I measured and cut green embroidery floss 4 times the length of the album. I used a needle to thread the embroidery floss through the holes. The mixed media part of my album were the prints. I made the prints on 4.25" squares of white cardstock. I glued the pages to the album using Aleene's tacky glue.

Here's mine - it was lovely to be able to get a headstart before work. Thanks for the early posting, MariLynn.

If feeling stabby means that I feel like stabbing someone or something, then yes, I could do that. I'd regret it but i do sometimes feel that way.

I know that there have been a couple of days that I was feeling that way. So thankful for art time that soothes the soul I love how your project turned out. Those papers were perfect.

At first glance, I misread the title as "feeling shabby" and thought we had some shabby chic going on. How great to learn that it was learning the stab stitch. I made a journal that will be a gift.
