Hard to believe there can be controversy about an art medium, but the fact of the matter is - there can be controversy about ANYTHING. Just search "is gouache watercolor" and prepare to be amazed. The important thing to remember is that there are no rules for art. Call things what you want, use them how you want - just create art!

But today we are going to play with gouache. Gouache is like a hybrid product between acrylic and watercolor. So if you don't have gouache - no biggie! Add some reinkers or watercolor to thinned white acrylic to play along - and guess what? That automatically makes it mixed media - WINNING AT LIFE, MY FRIENDS!

I have a little video on a super simple impressionist background with gouache you can use as a jumping off point, but whatever inspires you is cool with me!

The most important thing is - have fun! :)

Loved your video, Lydia. I am going to try this when I get back from my trip. I love the sweet and fun sentiments you used on you card and tag in the video too. Fun stuff - learned something new today! TFS!

Thanks so much Lydia! Great video. I've had a set of guache paint for a few years. They have never been opened, so I hope they are still good. I will try this today.

Lydia, I love your videos....you inspire me to try new things!!! Once I get hubs off to work, I'm going to give this a try by mixing some ink!

What a fun looking technique and a great video. I had heard of goache but didn't really know what it is. Can't wait to try this out with acrylic paint and reinkers!

Hats off to you Lydia in keeping your fingers clean while demonstrating this technique! My fingers are all colored in an inky, painty blue : ) This was fun and I made extra backgrounds for my stash so as to use up my paint.

My gouache was really old and clear oozy stuff came out first before pigment. Don't think shaking helps when they're in teeny tubes. Still, a fun time was had by all. Thanks for another great video, Lydia.

Lydia, thank you so so so so much for today's challenge!!! Until today, I had never heard of gouache, but was inspired by your video so I made my own with acrylic paint and re-inkers. I freaked out when I realized that my fingers are very stained, but I'm so happy that I allowed myself to get messy! I am thrilled that it came out so well!!! HUGS!! :)
