Challenge Title: Richer Colors
Hostess: Ky (Scrapacat) Keyword: MIX190Gallery: Gallery MIX190 I am so ready for fall. I know so many of you are not, but these high temperatures and lack of rain are wearing thin. One thing I really love about fall is the rain. And turtlenecks or scarves. And chili...sorry, squirrel! The rain really saturates all the leaves and makes everything so vibrant. I thought maybe we could capture that vibrancy by making faux stained glass. It's not hard - you just need to pick a larger image with enough space in it to let you break it into "glass" pieces. http://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.spli...d8b661917e.gif Next, take a minute to sketch, in pencil, a border and where your pieces of glass will be. Like this: http://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.spli...13a7b0d2d0.gif When you like the arrangement, go over the lines in pen. Then you can use any medium to color the glass pieces. In this example, I chose to cut the image into glass pieces as well as the background. http://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.spli...8728a7c7fc.gif There are several companies out there with beautiful cracked stamp images - you can certainly use them! If you want to use watercolor, complete your image on watercolor paper with waterproof ink and pens. To fully appreciate this challenge, cover your entire image with a glossy coat - use clear embossing powder, a fast-swiped coat of mod podge, glossy accents, anything that will give you a glass-like surface. I can't wait to see all the vibrant colors in our gallery! Remember to use at least two or more different mediums on your project. See this post for some ideas. Also make sure to put MIX190 in the keyword section of your upload. The main idea is to have fun! Happy Creating!! |
Here's my Rose in Glass. I used watercolor paper, Zig clean color pens, Mod Podge, and Copic multiliners for all my media mixes.

What a great-looking idea, Ky. Except for the freehand border, LOL. We have another bus strike today and my alternative transport leaves me less time before work, but maybe I'll get time later on.

MIX190 Stained Glass Deer
I'm not totally happy with how I finished the card, or even the colours I used to frame the deer panel, but I had great fun with this and would definitely like to try it again. Thanks, Ky! |

I love how yours turned out! And feel free to try as often as you like. The border isn't required if that helps any. LOL Thanks for playing!

Ky, this is a very clever and beautiful technique for stained glass. I hope to make a card over the weekend. Can't pass up your marvelous challenge!

I did it - I made another one. I deserved some play time as a reward for cleaning the deep fat fryer, LOL.
