Challenge: MIX186 - Say What You Want - Using Illegible Writing as a Background or Fill Element
Date: August 19, 2016 Host: UnderstandBlue Link to MIX186 Gallery I'm taking a GREAT Art Journaling class this summer, and one of my favorite lessons in the class was one doing faces, which, if you know me, you know that is NOT my thing. I don't even like to STAMP humans, much less draw them. But what's cool about the class is you can take away a technique from each lesson that you know you will use again, and in the face lesson, I LOVED the illegible writing portion. The instructor asked us to write illegibly on our pages, and it was one of those moments like the first time you heat emboss - where my mind was just blown and I fell in love with the technique. I sat down and I just wrote about something that happened that day, in a loose, illegible script - and I felt like it just pulled it out of my head and froze it on the page. So much fun - and so therapeutic! Whether the experience is positive or negative, it's like a secret diary of your daily experiences. I hope you love it as much as I do. I'm including both the journal pages I used it on as well as the card I used it on, and I do have a quick video on the process for creating a card background with it here. Since my handwriting isn't great anyway - this technique really made me friends with writing again :). Remember - mixed media doesn't have to be messy or difficult - make it what you want, and have fun doing it! Can't wait to see what you do! |
This sounds very cool! I still handwrite some letters (though I prefer the PC so I have a record), and my writing deteriorates visibly as the letter progresses, so I'll just pretend I'm at the end of a long letter.Gorgeous looking sample in the video!

So cool! Love the samples! I wondered about your nails and then you mentioned them! LOL. I can't wait to try this, the technique, not the nails!
|
WOW! Your art journaling pages are AMAZING!!!
|
What a cool technique Lydia!! Thanks for sharing this. I had a lot of fun doing this. My real handwriting is getting pretty bad so it wasn't much of a stretch to make it illegible  I wrote as fast as I could...that was the best way for me.

FABULOUS samples, ladies! What an interesting technique.

What a novel idea, giggle! Fabulous samples...one would think that my poor handwriting would be perfect for this! I have been practicing illegible handwriting, but I think my writing is actually getting better. ;p

Here is mine. I did do the illegible handwriting, but kind of got sidetracked from the rest of it. Here is Say What You Want.
Thank you for the challenge. I might try the whole technique, too. Sorry if this isn't what you wanted. SCS is doing funny things to my post. |

This was so much fun! Thanks Lydia, I love learning new stuff!

While I had fun making this card, I had high anxiety with the illegible writing. That is why it is a challenge, now isn't it? lol Thank you Lydia, for getting me to stretch myself and try something uncomfortable. Here is my Illegible Love.

I decided to try another with just a bit of writing..and I tried to make this a bit abstract. Just for You by peggykosier - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers

I had to keep telling myself to "let it flow"...even when I was writing messy I could still read it so I tried to get a little more sloppy. Here's my anniversary card to Joe for our 6th which is 8/20.

I may have become just a wee bit obsessed with this technique! I've made several cards using pieces of it and today I combined the technique with watercolor lifting and I LOVE IT! http://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.spli...0b4aa310d1.jpgI did blog posts on both techniques. Thanks so much for sharing this with us Lydia!
