Default what to stamp EZ-mount foam with?

Well, I finally made up my mind. I have orderd a bunch of EZ mount foam, and a bunch of CD cases, and when these things arrive I will embark on a journey to unmount all of my rubber stamps (except for maybe the background stamps).

One thing that I keep thinking about though is how I really like the idea of stamping the image onto the foam b-4 mounting it so I will have the image on the stamp. This thought makes me happy. So I'm wondering, what is the best ink to stamp these with?

I hear that stazon can end up on your CD cases and acrylic blocks, so I don't think I'll be wanting to use that. I also have SU craft ink, but would that ever dry? I also have some chalk ink pads, would they work? If none of these are the best then what would be the best?

I also have a few solid surface stamps. I am wondering if stamping the image of these onto the foam would mess up the cling?

I would love some input!

Thank you!

I use stazon and it has been snugged up against my CD cases for up to two years. On some stamps, there is a mark on the CD cases, but since I put the stamp back in the same place any way, it acts like a template when I put them away. I have no stains on my acrylic blocks. The solid surface stamps work just the same as the outline stamps.

The marks on the CD cases are random. Not all have them and I have no idea why some and not the others.

After I stamp the EZMount, I set them aside to get really dry before I move on to cutting out the images. I also have found that since I am laying out stamps on the EZMount before I actually cut it, I use every little corner of the EZMount.

And as long as you have ink on the stamp, it is easy to stamp the image on a sheet of paper to go into a binder, so you have a record of what you have.

Stazon has worked for me with only a few stained CD cases and no block issues.

My cautionary tale is that your nails will be a hot mess while you work on this project. Between ink stains and messed up nails from peeling off the rubber, your hand modeling days will be over for awhile!!

I have unmounted about 150 sets. I am so happy I did it! I have not unmounted background stamps or housemouse (I love the art on those!). Wheels I did not mount on EZMount.

Good luck!

I had concerns about storing EZ mounted stamps and contacted a couple of companies that sell this kind of product. They cautioned me to always store the EZ Mount cling on a plastic sheet before placing it in a CD case. Some kind of chemical reaction takes place over time between the cases and the EZ Mount and will cause your stamps to break down over time.... or maybe the EZ Mount breaks down, but whichever it is, you want to be sure not to put them directly onto the CD case. The plastic sheet would also stop any ink from ending up on your cases. Good luck with the process. You will love having your stamps unmounted.

Hehe thanks for the caution. LOL! I did get hooked on knitting about 3 years ago which quickly lead to spinning and dyeing my own yarn. Now if you think you end up with colorful (sticky, messy, whatever) fingers from stamping just imagine them after cleaning and dyeing a sheeps fleece! LOL! That lanolin gets sticky! But yes, I have been warned!

Thank you for this tip. I could easily put them on transparencies. I suppose that would also stop the CD cases from getting ink on them. Then if it really bothered me I could always replace the transparancy.

My foam and CD cases have already shipped! I can't wait to get them. They should be here in a week or less.

The problem with storing your unmounteds that are on EZ Mount is acetate. Sunday International, the makers of EZ Mount, warn that if your EZ Mount is placed on acetate, they will eventually fuse permanently together.

Transparencies are acetate.

Maybe some CD cases are acetate as well and that may be the problem for them.

I don't use cases but use a laminated card. I confirmed that my laminating film is not acetate before getting too far into the project.

I was just wondering....if anybody here has experienced the "bondage" issue? I absolutely believe that it is theoretically possible and like so many companies, Sunday Intl has to cover themselves, but...has anyone seen it happen in real life?

Maybe I should start a new thread in "general" for more viewers??

I remember reading some time back here on SCS about some people who did experience the bonding. I think it was at that time that Sunday International started warning about the issue. I'll see if I can find the thread.

Here are several threads that deal with the issue of EZ mount/cling cushion with acetate OR EZ mount/cling cushion with cd cases OR dealing with the use of Stazon ink on the EZ mount (I guess it transfers to the CD case sometimes).

Thanks for the clarification, Fiona. I was thinking of the plastic sheet that many pre-EZ mounted stamps come on, and wasn't even thinking of transparencies. I have heard that glossy cardstock is acetate free and can be used between the EZ mount and CD case.

I don't have any EZ mount but I have a couple of customers who are ordering the SU plastic cases to store them in. Will those be OK or should I pass this tip onto them? THANKS!

I would think that the cases from SU would be fine. They check things out pretty thoroughly before jumping in...

I just bought some EZ thin mount and am taking the leap! What I don't understand is how to stamp the image on the foam. Mine is black. Do you use Stazon White? You must have to stamp first then mount it? Any assistance would be most appreciated.

The regular thickness EZMount is gray and so the black stazon is fine. I tried the white stazon on the thin and fairly quickly switched to the gray.

OK-so I read through all of the threads that Fionna posted above and it seems as though there are very few real life issues with EZMount and CD cases. Only one person said whe actually had a problem.

It is far easier and less expensive to stay with what I have an if I have to remount a stamp or two later, so be it. sounds like it never affects the rubber.
