Default Storing Stamps in CD Cases...

For those of you who store your stamps in the old style CD cases, where do you get yours? I would love to start organizing my stamps this way, but can't find the CD cases at any local stores. I did find some from PTI, but are these jewel cases? or the old style thicker ones?

TIA!

You need the old style 'thick' CD cases....the slim jewel cases won't work if you leave the cushion on the rubber. I get mine from www.rima.com because I can get them without the inserts. HTH

I've also gotten them from Staples and just remove the insert to fill them.

Default CD cases

I joined a recycling Yahoo group in my area called freecycle. i have over 100 CD cases- FREE! I put up an add for CD Cases wanted, and people contact me and I go pick them up...........

I imagine if you google and put in _______________ (your town, State) Freecycle you can see if it is available in your area.......

Sometimes there are groups in your county as well- but consider how far do you want to go to pick something up.

I have been cleaning out my closets- I have found this to be a fabulous resource.

The FYE store (For Your Entertainment) is going out of business here, and I stopped in yesterday and got a 10 pack of the jewel cases for $1.50. They only had 2 packs left, so I got both for $3.00. So if you have one near you, you may want to check there.

Yep, check Target. I got a 10 pack and that was more than enough for me. Most clear stamps I buy come with their own cases so I only use store-bought for extras.

I put a note up at our local community recycle depot. They're free and I get lots every month. (Great because I'm clumsy and tend to drop them.)

I agree! I just happened up on them while looking for something else and was like "Wow! That's cheap!" and grabbed them.

I've purchased mine at Target, Walmart, Big Lots, just take the insides out. I have found that they are the least expensive at these stores. I have also bought DVD jewel cases for larger stamp sets and for the SU background stamps.

Thanks everyone. =) I put an ad in my local FreeCycle, but if that doesn't work, I'll have to venture out to a Target or K-mart, as there are none in my area any more. =(

Thanks again!!

jkminor: I bought my DVD jewel cases from Stamp-by-Step, it's item #90-ST-SJBX. Right now they have them for $5.50 for a set of 5. My large SU background stamps fit in perfectly as well as larger sets of stamps. Just like the CD cases, pop out the insides...wallah!

omg thanks so much for that. I will definately go there. I have been wanting some dvd size for my larger stamps. I store my CD cases on a CD/DVD shelf system so it could handle the DVD cases just fine. I am soooo excited.

great thread, I have not been able to find the DVD cases, only the slim ones which I know will not fit my stamps. Is there a cheap place online to buy them??
I did buy the last one of the CD jewel cases Target had last night and am going to a different Wal-Mart tonight to check, plus I plan on stopping in at Big Lots to check there, but am running out of places to check.

I just started unmounting all my rubber stamps and putting them in CD cases and I found mine at Walmart. They have both the slim ones that you can't use and the old-style regular CD cases.

There are different ways. Some people mount the rubber to cling foam, some coat the back with sticky stuff. I leave mine bare rubber and run strips of double stick poster tape on the acrylic block. It holds the rubber and goes through many uses before being replaced.

Ok. To those of you have unmounted your stamps to store, I have a question. What do you do with the label on top of the wood block? Do you stick it on top of the foam? If so, what do you attach the vinyl to it with? Glue, tape or what? I want to start storing mine in CD/DVD cases because of space. I've done most of the ones that are just the foam & rubber with no sticker. Now I'm ready to start them and I can't figure out what to do about the sticker. If I don't use it at all, how do I position the stamp correctly? I guess basically I want them to look like the new unmountes Stampin Up! ones. Is that possible?

I just peeled my stickers off the blocks, applied Tombow glue (green bottle) to the rubber and applied the sticker on top. Once it dries, I trimmed the sticker to fit the rubber. I then applied the same glue to the top of the sticker and let it dry overnight. When the glue dries without making contact with something else, it becomes repositionable so you can stick it over and over again to the clear blocks or to the CD case for storage.

When I unmounted all of my SU stamps, I ended up throwing away the blocks, labels too! I haven't had a problem with positioning the stamps when stamping. When I unmounted, I trimmed the rubber super close to the image, I think that helps with positioning the stamps when using them.

Thank you so much!!! This is exactly what I wanted to know! I have a bottle of the green Tombow, but I didn't realize it would become repositionable like that. I'm going to try that today! This is going to be "massive" undertaking, but I'm running out of storage space. I've wanted to unmount them for awhile, but couldn't figure the sticker thing out. Luckily alot of my SU sets are still unmounted, so I can leave out the "unmounting" step there! Thanks again for the info!

Default Storing in CD cases

I have 50 or 60 of the thicker CD cases from my son who puts his CD's in a case that holds 100 or more CD's. I use to use them for computer program disks that didn't have them. Now they are going to be much more useful. Otherwise, Big Lots or Goodwill have been my gold mines!;)

Smile Storing Stamps in CD cases

The best place to get them is to order them online from a place called Polyline (you can Google it). If you order at least 100 (share wth friends), they turn out to be 13 cents a piece.

Some sets are too big or have too many stamps to fit in one CD case. For these you want the Super Jewel Case. It's the length of a VHS tape box, but with the thickness of a CD case and it's also clear.

It costs more if you buy the ones with the "tray" in them. It's much cheaper to buy those without. You're going to remove it and throw it away anyway.

I store my Nesties in CD cases (using a strip of self-adhesive magnet on the bottom). I bought some at Target and some at WalMart. Both were less than $5 for 10. But when I needed more, I asked my hubby to ask his friends if they had any to get rid of. So many people who have music CDs transfer them to different types of storage folders and had lots of empty cases leftover. So I got a lot for free. It just took a little time and a little Un-Du to take off any labels.
