Default Storing Card Bling?

I have been storing my bling (dots, etc) in a small cheap top-loading photo album. One sheet of bling per photo album. Well, I've collected quit a bit now and the album is bursting. I go to crops throughout the year, so something portable is important. Looking for new ideas!

What about putting them in ROYGBIV order standing upright (probably in landscape orientation rather than portrait) in a Really Useful Box? You could just flip through them quickly that way to get the one you want. Those boxes come in all kinds of sizes, are reasonably priced, and close up tight to keep things safe.

This case works well for lots of smaller items.

I have mine in two drawers in a 3-drawer unit from Ikea that fits in an Expedit cube. It also stands alone. If I didn’t have that I’d use a bin and put like items together, because I think of the “thing” first, and then the color. If I thought of the color first, I’d put them in rainbow order (ROYGBIV/neutrals) - like I do for cardstock.

So if you think “enamel dots, what color would look good?” you might sort by item type. If you think, “I want something blue,” I’d go with rainbow. Then all things blue would be together.

I transferred items into pockets so there’d be uniformity - SSS 5” square pockets for some items, and Avery Elle stamp pockets for taller, flat items like enamel dots, Elizabeth Craft Peel-Offs, etc.

(The other reason I sort by item type is I don’t use a lot of types of bling or embellishment. So if I just use an item once a year it can be in the back and I don’t have keep leafing through those.)

Sequins and rhinestones are the exception. They’re in a segmented box that allows you to open just one segment at a time.

This is the IKEA chipboard drawer unit, in case anyone is interested. It fits in Expedit or Kallax but also stands alone. I’m a bin person but happened to have a couple of these that were on sale for a few bucks since it was a close-out. But then it didn’t close out. : )

I had that and it’s really well made and would work great for lots of people, just not me. It couldn’t be left out since it was rather large. And the main box would have to be opened, then other boxes. On edge I didn’t know exactly what was in them, and they weren’t long enough for some embellishments.

But if bling is sorted ROGBIV, the edges could be color coded or labels added with what’s inside.

This is probably just my weirdness, but eventually I realized I didn’t like any hinged boxes (unless small) because opened they take up double the space. So things get bumped by the lid or the box is on my lap or things are moved to accomodate it, etc. So all hinged boxes left the room.

Just my take. YMMV. And should.

I use a "Clip and Spin Organizer". I place my embellishments in clear cellophane bags by color. I keep it on my craft table for easy access. I purchased it at HL and love it...saves a lot of space.....
