Okay, I am taking all my ribbon off of clothes pins and putting it on flat pieces of plastic. The size I have fit perfectly into those little Sterilite storage trays. And I can fit 4 trays in the Jetmax 3 drayer cubes. But I would need to get another 3 drawer cube for all my ribbon. How else can I store my ribbons? Not sure if I want to buy another cube, just for ribbon.
I found wrapping ribbon around these leaves a crease in the ribbon that you almost have to iron out. If you don't mind this it is a great storage idea.
I would suggest you buy another cube, you'll always buy ribbon,we have a serious addiction! You probably would need it eventually! And the empty drawers are never empty for long, we can always use more storage. I was able to put my ribbon onto 3x3
chipboard squares and I can fit 4 across the drawers, I divided the drawers with foamcore that I got at work. It fits a lot, a lot of ribbon. I think the containers might take up some room in the drawers.
I wanted my ribbon to take up as little space as possible, but knew it would crease if wrapped around something flat. So I wrapped my ribbon around bamboo skewers, then cut the skewers to the width of the ribbon. To make it a little more polished and to help hold the ribbon on, I glued thin cardboard circles on the ends of the skewers. Doing this might help you make the most of your current storage...
I just redid my ribbon storage into boxes I made myself.
I made some "sleeves" with cardstock to match the ribbons, but I also like the transparent ones.
For shorter lengths, I put up to 4 ribbons in each box, with one end sticking out of each corner.
I have my ribbon in too many different containers and have been thinking about getting a ribbon ring (or two LOL!). That way I can see it and use it and not have to worry about ironing it.
I put them on rings before the box method. Worked great for a while, but I didn't like them tangling and the dust from hanging them out.
Yeah, me too! Not to mention how tempting the ribbons are to my two kitties. The love playing with the ribbons dangling and before you know it, they pull them out of the holders.
I bought a photo box for $3 at Joann, and was going to use jumbo eyelets to pull little pieces out, like 8 or 10 eyelets on the side. I saw a ribbon box like this there, but wasn't interested in a $10 box...
I will still keep the ones I have on dowels under my shelves, but I have one whole drawer I never use because I can't see them.
Anyone try this? Any hints/regrets?
I've been using the ribbon spooling tool from Best Craftbook Shelf and storing the ribbon rolls in Rubbermaid drawer organizers. Here's the page with the spooler. I just love it!

I made some "sleeves" with cardstock to match the ribbons, but I also like the transparent ones.
I would like to try this. Do you have a pattern for these boxes?
To make them 2"x2"x0.5", I use 2 strips of 2" wide cardstock. I score at 0.5, 2, 0.5, 2 and 0.5. Overlap the 0.5 sections and glue to form a sleeve. Slide one sleeve inside the other. It will help to trim the inside sleeve a tad narrower so it can slide in easily. I have pictures on my blog.

Are you purging ribbon as you organize? Maybe you can whittle your collection down to an amount that will fit in just one set of drawers. I keep half of my ribbon wrapped around cards in shallow Sterilite drawers and the rest on the original rolls in a large magazine storage box (Kassett from Ikea, but just about any large box would do). Maybe if you found a box large enough to accommodate those trays, you could just stack them in there instead of in the drawers.

I had to try these. I love them! They are so easy to make. I can see how you could mass produce them SOOOOO easily. Off to get some transparency later today (Got to work first

Esther - Thank you so much for sharing your box idea. I loved your idea best out of all clever ideas here on SCS. I was able to free up two big drawers that once stored a lot of spools. Now most of it is contained in 2 X 2 boxes and some are 3 X 3. Just added several photos in my gallery today if any of you would like to take a look. moonpie11's Gallery at Splitcoaststampers
