Ikea Furniture - ALex
hey does anyone have this Alex Drawer unit....
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40196241
well my question is.... does the thinner drawer hold a bottle of stickles, or reinker standing upright?? or the thicker drawer?
I did go & measure the drawers at the store, and they are 2 1/4" and 2 3/4" but I measured the inside and didn't notice if there was still a little "clearance"
I don't want to drive across town and take my stickles with me LOL! ;)

I just tried a reinker and it won't fit into any of the top three drawers. It will in the lower ones though.
Hope that helps!

OH NICe pics, that was another thing I was wondering about, if you could stack them ;)
can't wait to see the inside cutie ;)
not sure how thick those giga punches are, but I had gone to the store & measured...
on the alex (wide) the drawer depths are 2 1/4" and 2 3/4" deep (guess that's height *wink) and 23 1/2"w x 16 1/2"d on the inside
and on the one you see used as the desk 'leg" they are 2 3/8" and 4 1/2" depths
and 11 1/2"w x 16 1/2"d on the inside.... same for the tall one, just more drawers

second 3.
As you can see, my punch drawers are a mess, but this thing holds them all. The drawer is as deep as the tallest part of the outside drawer

I have two Alex drawers and just love them. They hold soo much. I keep my re-inkers in the bigger drawers. Mine are stacked. I show them on my You Tube scrap room tour. Please check it out, my user name is stampyra. I've just posted my first videos about my stamp room. I just love to organize! The links are also on my blog. Hopefully you can see what's in he drawers. My lighting was weird. Thanks, JIL

I have the Vika Artur desk with the A-frame legs & LOVE IT!! I use shelves one leg to store my old Papercraft magazines & sketch books so inspiration is right at my fingertips. The other one holds my sewing machine. I would highly recommend.

Wow, great pictures, now I want an Alex unit too! Leigh Anne, I'm wondering if you could use one of those spice drawer organizers in one of the top drawers to hold stickles/reinkers at an angle? Like this type......

OK I got some pics....
for size reference, I am/was using the Iris scrapbooking carts (yes two) lol ;)
so the first pic is one of the containers from that, fits in and there's room to spare ;)
2nd pic is my inks, that used to jam full the iris container... without the cubes boxes or all the VersaFine inks, so there's still even more room in here ;)
next pic is the ep/glitter, flock & such like stuff.... stickles used to be with these in the iris cart, but they do need to go in the thicker drawer... which I didn't take pic of LOL
I really do need another LOL but I LOVE IT!

Hi Everyone,
I have the tall ones and they're so perfect for organizing your punches. This Ikea drawer is a very good investment.
I also bought the Helmer filing drawers, and its perfect for storing scrap papers...

Hi Stacy,
If I'm not mistaken, it only comes in one color - kindda like dirty white. You can paint it though...

thanks a lot for the pictures Leigh Anne and Claire!
Claire: Are the punches bowing the bottom out at all? My punches are way to heavy for my plastic drawers... but I was worried if I stacked too many punches in each drawer that the MDF would still make the drawer rollers stick or close uneven...

Oh, see, I knew I read it somewhere... hehe... but I think Gail was talking about the wide, short unit--not the tall 9 drawer unit you are using, Claire?

I'm not sure I agree with the other poster on the bowing of the bottoms. I have these filled to the rim with punches and I don't have any issues with bowing. I actually checked mine to make sure and the bottom of the drawer is solid and not budging. I even pushed down on the bottom of the drawer to see if there was an flex and there was nothing. GL though with whatever you decide.

Hi Everyone...
Each drawers seemed to be pretty sturdy and not bowing at all.
See this is the bottom drawer of my unit and it is full to the brim with MS old style edge punch and the drawer looks really fine. Drawers in this unit slides in really well. So I assumed that if it gets really heavy and you're having problems pushing it, that is an indication that its heavy. I am so pleased with this drawer unit.
How do I know what punches they are? Every time, I'm taking something out of its packaging, I'm labelling it using permanent pen with its name and SKU. I am doing that solely for the purpose of inventory.
Have a great sunday!

Oh, now I need to go to Ikea!! Wow, this looks amazing, and I love the idea of the spice holder for the distress re-inkers!
By the way, I want to go scrap at Claire's house after seeing all those punches!!
