Default Favorite marker storage?

I have all of Stampin Up's markers and I just bought the 80pc set of Zig Real Brush markers. Plus I have odds & ends markers. Right now they are all just thrown in a drawer. What a mess that is. And I'm not sure if I want a container where each marker is in it's only little elastic. I'm just not sure what I want.

Any suggestions?

I have yet to find something that works for me in a drawer. But, If you have space on a shelf or on your table, I recommend this inexpensive wine rack. It allows you to keep the markers in a horizontal position and you can sort them however makes sense to you.

I have seen the wine rack idea but by the time I has seen it I had already come up with a solution:

I took toilet paper rolls, hot glued them together then hot glued that to a thick piece of foam core board. I then dropped my new holder into a crate and turned it on it's side, then I took a piece of scrap wood and slipped it under the front edge of the crate so that everything is at a slight slant.

Boy does it ever hold a lot. I've got all my marker and pens stored in it. You can even slip things into the diamond shaped spaces between the tp rolls. It's portable too.

Mine are all stored in Deflecto storage cubes. My fatter alcohol markers are in the cube that is divided in half. All others are in the cross divided (four triangle divisions).

I use the Sparco X-cubes. I have 12 of them on my desk (4 across, 3 down) and they are 6" cubes. I like them because they come with metal pieces that connect one to the other, and a groove that the metal piece slides into. This picture shows the 12 cubes, but in a different arrangement.
With the clips, I can pick them up in bulk and move them! I've used these cubes for probably 4 years now.

Ah, the Sparco and the Deflecto are almost identical. Deflecto have smooth sides. I use some of the X-cubes and some that are divided in half horizontally.

I bought a wooden stacking three drawer pastel box from jerry's artarama. I was originally going to store prismas and polychromos in it but decided to do my zigs and my Tombows. They have dividers so they don't shift around. I'm going to buy several more of these. The reviews I read said the artarama ones have better sliding drawers. So far so good for the top of my desk and easy access.

Looks like the OP found a solution, but in case someone reads this thread later:

Forgot to mention a DISadvantage of the butterfly rack - it doesn't have a "back" to it. The compartments are open meaning you can push your markers out through the back if there is space behind it. Not a biggie if the rack is up against a wall but otherwise it's something to consider.

I didnít like the Deflecto storage for my ZIG brush markers because the caps make one end bulkier, and I found that markers would slide out if I had a lot in one of the big sections. So the Deflecto cube now just has my Copic markers and my ZIGs are in the top portion of this organizer: http://https://www.go-organize.com/c...organizer.html

I love, love, love the marker storage racks from Crafter's Companion. As you can see I have several sets. I like how each marker has it's own slot. You can also stack the trays straight up & down, or do what I have done and stack them at a slight angle so that the markers are more easily visible. They are inexpensive and sturdy and fit all my markers which include Spectrum Noirs, SU water markers, SU Blends, Chameleon, Wink of Stella. etc and etc.

Thank you for sharing this information, Mary. I've always wondered how well those fit different markers.

Pardon the dust and the glare... I put a little rubber bumper on the back of my top shelf. I keep the racks pushed against the wall and since they are staggered, the top one kept dinging the wall.

Like Mary and Renee, I have the Crafter's Companion storage and I love it!

Prior to that, I made one from a CD case and foam board, like this one. I staggered the foam board for wider shelves. I quickly outgrew that and bought the Crafter's Companion storage.

I store my water-based markers in dollar store glass vases in a wine rack.

Oatmeal containers covered with DSP, laid on their side and glued together for me! Easily expandable as long as you like oatmeal lol

I never seem to find good stuff at thrift stores... . Although, to be honest, I would probably look at that wine rack and think "I have more wine than that" and not even venture into creative uses for it.

Well, I'm a Pinterest addict and have pinned many a storage idea. I had been looking for a wine rack that would fit on my desk for a month or two before I found that one!

And, yes I have way more wine than that

We drink a lot of Old Orchard frozen juice so I wash them out and put my markers in them. Then I put them into a craft tote I found at a thrift store.

Thanks for all the ideas. I ended up getting a 7-drawer (I think) container from Michaels the other day when organization stuff was 50% off. It works for now but we'll see down the road if it works for me. Atleast I was able to separate two colors of markers per drawer and they're not all in one drawer now. Makes it easier to find what I want.

Mary, I have 2 sets of those drawers and love them! I have my Polychromos in one and my Albert Durher watercolor pencils in the other. I just received the full set of Tombows, so it looks like I'll be placing another order.

Glad you like them too. Iím ready for at least one more set to stack, maybe two. They are so handy on my desk.

When chatting about marker storage, my LSS owner showed me a vintage drinking glass caddy she uses, and I thought I'd get one to keep on a closet shelf and bring out when using. I found some empty and full 6-glass caddies on Etsy. (One shop owner said she'd sell the caddy without the glasses.) Then I saw this one with 3" diameter 5" cups and may go that route, replacing the cups with clear or white:

Amazon.com : Lakeshore Classroom Carry-All : Office Supplies Organizers : Office Products

If I wanted markers in individual slots I might wait for Deflecto's new accordion storage. Their old marker storage cups are shown at 3:10 and the new accordion one at 3:22. They're stackable too. Ken often has discount coupons on his blog. Decisions!

I am not sure if you have found the right storage solution for yourself by now, but I wanted to weigh in on my choice for storage for all of my markers. Before I tell you though, I must admit I seem to be obsessed with markers (color really), so I have far more than I will ever need.Stampin' Up! has clear cases in different sizes. If you are storing your SU! markers by color group, I suggest using the thin case. If you would rather store your markers by type and as many as will fit, I suggest the full wide cases. Ink refills will fit nicely in the half wide cases as well. I hope this is helpful to someone.

Default Spectrum Noir storage

After lots of research I decided on the following storage solution for my Spectrum Noir markers, DH did the construction, bless that man. I bought 11 10-foot lengths of schedule 200 3/4 ID pvc pipe from Ace Hardware. The schedule 200 has a thinner wall than schedule 40 so that is why I chose it. If I could have found schedule 20 pvc I would have gotten that but since it is no longer up to code where I live no one sells it. DH cut the pvc into 5.5" pieces. I painted 1"x6" boards white and he used a nail gun to construct the box. He added a piece of 1/8" Luan on the back. We used Goop glue to adhere the pvc pieces inside the box. I chose these dimensions because I wanted the box to sit on my Counter but needed it to fit under a shelf and between 2 shelf brackets. I love it! It holds all 216 SN markers with 10 open slots left.

I wanted a copic storage ,now I know some people don't have copics and need to store their pens sideways but if you get a plastic container you can still do this. Lots of info in pinterest.
