Default card storage

Hi,

Thanks to my New Years resolution I am attempting to get organized. One area where I am lacking any ideas----is what do you store your completed cards in? Any ideas? Pics would be great!!!!

I use a photo storage container from Advantus. I really like it because not only can I store finished cards in it, I use it to store blank card bases and envelopes. I can carry it with me everywhere.

I keep mine in a Steralite clear container, the size of a shoebox, and comes with a snap on lid to keep the dust out. I do not normally buy Steralite, because it breaks easily, but my cards have been fine for 2 years. It is big enough that there is room to move the cards to see the fronts without damaging the card.

All the family also knows what to look for when a card is needed. I will take a pic and post it a little later.

I just store mine in a basket standing up, that way I can flip through them when I'm looking for something in particular to mail out. Same idea as those posted, but it looks nice on my shelf. LOL

I've been using the cardboard photo boxes from Michael's. I got a bunch during Boxing week sales - they were 3 for $5. They also come with index cards, so you can separate them or label by category.

I like the ability to have a lid on my storage box. I currently use one of those boxes you snap together. I got it at Staples. I absolutely love it, except that it's too wide and my cards tend to not stay in order, they slide to the sides. I am thinking of purchasing a few more, but more shaped to fit that size cards. This was just a box I had around the house so I made do. Now that I have a lot of cards made, I need to go shopping.

I also use photo boxes from Michaels. They look really nice all lined up and I do use dividers, so when I need a birthday card, I know right where to go.

I use exandable file folders with the front/top closure. These fit best on the shelves I have available, and I'm able to label each of the files by category. When it gets too full, then I know it's time to send a package to a charity organization or call my friends to come by and pick what they need.

I use CD boxes from Ikea with inserts I made. The boxes are only like $3.99 for two & so useful.

I have a cute wicker basket with a liner in one of my storage cubes. I have most of the cards standing upright so I can thumb through, but I also stamped dividers by type so I can find them quickly. I also store blank store bought cards/envelopes in here as well.

I also use the cardboard photo storage boxes you can get just about anywhere. I have quite a few-one for birthdays, one for Christmas, one for summer, one for spring-you get the idea. I use the dividers that come in the boxes too. I put each card in a clear envie with a paper envie so all I have to do is go through them and pick out a card and the envie is ready to go. I reuse the clear envies.

Default card storage

Depending on how much space you have..I made the little magazine boxes that i found on here, one for each theme and they looked really cute lined up on the shelf...I use those for me and the ones I sell or take to craft shows, I use the cropper hopper drawers. They are made for cards and work great..a little pricey but use a coupon for each one and before you know it you will have tons of storage (each drawer is divided into 3 sections)

Finally got shopping. I bought some CD boxes at Walmart. Perfect size, I just need to make some dividers to separate the categories. I bought three boxes. Two probably would have been enough, but I wanted some expansion room, just in case....

I use an old fashioned index file box that measures 6 1/2 wide, 5 tall, and 11 1/2 inches long. It is made of the same cardboard they make photo boxes out of (maybe a little stronger). The ones designed for use with the 4x6 index cards. I found one at a yard sale and looked forever before finding one at an office supply store. $11.00. The box comes with a lid. I took the very hard dividers they sell to go along with these and added about an inch to the bottom of each one. This made the tabbed divider tall enough that I could see it over my card. I have over 100 cards in mine and made dividers according to sentiment. Happy Birthday, get well, thinking of you, etc. I then organized them alphabetically to make it easier to find. I love my system and have fixed one for my daughter as well as my sister.

I purchased a photo rack from some online source. The spinner type rack that you see postcards displayed in stores. I can easily see what I have and what I need and people who buy from me can choose easily.

Best idea ever - get one of those over-the-door storage units with plastic pockets (the ones a lot of people use to store their punches). You can put labels on each of the pockets, i.e. Get Well, Sympathy, Male Birthday, etc. Easy to find what you're looking for because they're sorted into categories, and it takes up very little space. Try it - you'll like it!

I ditto the photo storage boxes from Michaels and Hobby Lobby. They are always on sale, in wonderful colorful designs and colors that match my decor and can be repurposed when I need them for something else.

Well ladies I must be really cheap. I use boxes from the foodmarket that they use to store packages of tuna. I usually buy tuna in the package, not canned. I lable these boxes, like Christmas cards, Birthday cards, Sympathy cards, or work in progress. I store them on the same shelves I use to store my cataloged stamps. Empty Greenie treat boxes also work as well. Greenie's are dog treats and they come with lids on them. Hope that helps..

I use the largest drawer of one of my Iris carts and have cardstock dividers labelled with occasion categories. Christmas cards go in separate storage containers though. Most of my cards are 5 x 7; so a lot of the above containers mentioned just don't work well for me. I wanted a file system that could handle a half-sheet card, and the drawer works fine.

I really like the look of this!! So much so that I've got a few in my shopping cart at an online store now :^) . Thanks for showing a photo of it -- I almost went for the smaller one and it would not have been what I wanted. With your photo, I was able to notice right away that there are two sizes. THANKS!

Well, I NEVER make cards ahead. To get motivated I have to have a "reason". The very few times I've made cards ahead they've just sat there.

Right now I have two birthday cards, a sympathy and a thank you sitting on my craft table all ready to go but they were made out of "need".

Does anyone else do this?

I used to wait until I needed a card too Allistamps123, but my new goal this year is to have alot made ahead and to have them made for those of my friends that want to actually buy them! I bought (50% off too) (score!) an accordian file from Hobby Lobby this past weekend just for this storage purpose. I have put labels on the tabs and it's got a handle to make it easy for me to tote around with my "wares" in it. I do plan on keeping cards made ahead! And, I actually do have some made ahead now!

Lunchbox Tin for card storage photo

Above is a link to a lunchbox tin I have made over and over for myself and for friends. I have one at work and one at home and make them for gifts too! You could find the boxes at Micheal's.

Below is a link to the resource page showing how to make it:

I store mine in some boxes with a swing hinge lid I got from walmart. They're the exact perfect size for storing A2 cards, and they come with dividers. I have separate boxes for birthday/Christmas/Thank You's, etc.

They're located in the office supplies.. They're cardboard (but sturdy), and come in several colors. Mine are white and chocolate, but they also have a blue, green and black color.

I'm cheap, LOL! I use a men's size 13 shoebox (thank you to my nephew!) with cardboard dividers that I cut. I can easily add as many dividers as I like, and I fill the empty space toward the back with envelopes. Plus I have a category for things like tags, gift card holders, etc, and I organize cards for the month at the front. I don't use a lid, but it stays in a drawer.

Not the prettiest option, but it works!

I use plain old Photo boxes that you can find at Hobby Lobby, Michaels, Joanne. and AC Moore.

I buy them when they are two for $? and I use the dividers and add my own tabs. Birthday, Get Well, Thinking of you.

I put the lid on the bottom of the box. So my cards don't get smashed.
