Default What type of chair do you use when crafting?

I tend to sit when stamping or paper crafting, but I'm unhappy with the chair I have. Has anyone found a "dream chair" that you use?

Container Store's bungee chair - with arms. (The one without arms doesn’t feel comfortable - the seat is different.) It goes on sale occasionally - $50 off.

I have a Serta chair with lumbar support. I love that chair; it's the most important item in my craft room. I bought it at Staples.

I wasn't going to post because I don't think anyone will find a chair like mine. I have an antique office desk chair that was my mom's. Two things I love about it. One...the legs are VERY narrow and they fit under my sewing machine cabinet. Two...it adjusts up really high so that I can get a good ergonomic fit for my arms. (work surface lower than my elbow level)

I want to sit up straight and tall (teacher always said to, dontcha know!) when I'm working. No easy chair for me!

I found a similar chair online (not a "for sale" item, for sure!)
Antique 1890s Swivel Office Chair - Dave's Archive - www.telephonearchive.com/dmworkshop

[If mine is truly a telephone company chair, then it is totally understandable why I have it. My dad worked for the phone company for years and years.]

I rarely, if ever sit to work with paper crafting. I worked for years as a floral designer and stood for hours to work. I prefer to stand to work.. I do occasionally sit to color, usually with colored pencils on a portable laptop table while watching tv. I too have an antique desk chair which is very comfortable but it is at my desk.

I stand for the most part when I stamp and even assemble cards. I do sit to color or paint and often to attach tiny embellishments like pearls. I bought a stool that swivels up to give me the height I need when sitting to get a good angle. If I had it to do over again, I would have had my work table made to be standing height, so it would be more comfortable to stand without so much bending over. Before my back surgery I had one of those ergonomic chairs that you sort of kneel on rather than put pressure on the spine and that worked well for me then.

My chair is the typical office desk chair, padded, arms, medium height on the back. I feel the solution for most people is moving, sitting a long time is not good. I am up and down with using a high counter for cutting. My cardstock is located near the cutting counter, hence moving to pick colors. My stamps are close enough to roll my chair to, but still up again to emboss. I make several kits for our club gatherings and so I seldom sit to cut kits. I love my room though...it's my haven. LOL

Wow! That vintage telephone chair is a rare piece, and if it's crafting comfy, that is wonderful! I had to check the $$ on the bungee chair ... but had to quickly step back so no sense of 'need' started sprouting.

2 or 3 years ago I moved out of DH's hand-me-down office chair. Comfy to sit, but way too clunky to be easy-in-&-out. I used my padded folding chairs that I use for classes until last year when I scored a couple of wooden dining/kitchen tables & chairs for the studio. Now, I just use those. But that 'bungee' chair better not start showing up in future thoughts ... just sayin'!

The $50 off, an achy body, needing height adjustment (I’m short) + too much booty were the convincers. The colors didn’t hurt.

They also have the bungee chair without arms that’s already $50 less and also goes on sale, but it wasn’t comfortable. The seat is smaller, if I’m not disremembering. (See “too much booty,” above.) But it’s got lots of fans.

Sales announcements are emailed, if desired, by joining their POP program, which can be done on line.

Sorry! Now get it out of your mind. Anyway, it might not suit. Different bodies need different chairs.

I have an office chair that I got at Amazon. I think the cushioning in the one I sit in all the time has lessened, but still a great chair. A little pricey, but a bargain in my book. I used to buy task chairs at our local Office Depot, but they'd be dead (usually) in less than a year. Often mechanical failure. So I finally broke down and got a couple of these chairs--despite the cost--and they've lasted a long time now. (Not sure exactly how long, but at least a year and a half, and still going strong!) I have one for my scrap desk and another for our sewing desk. I have back problems, so standing for several hours is never a good idea. You can check out the chair here.

Oh my I rough it! Haha. I use my vintage drop-leaf table to stamp at. It originally was my grandmother's but we had it in our kitchen when I was growing up.

In reality the table is too small for crafting but it means a lot to me to use it so it's worth it.

I use the chair that goes with this table. Very basic but I never think of it as uncomfortable!

Super splurge, but if you have back problems it may be worth it:
https://www.amazon.com/Herman-Miller...rds=mira+chair

You can find it cheaper on e-bay, but it's always going to be a splurge.

Also, for those who need it, there are a bunch of sit-to-stand desks on the market. You can also find sit-to-stand tabletops to add to an existing desk.

OK, not a chair, but when Nerys mentioned using a blanket on her chair for comfort, it reminded me that I use Purple seat cushions at both home (crafting) and work. I have just the inexpensive travel one ($39) at home and love it.

As for me, I think if I could do it again, I'd stand to craft, too. I stand all day at work (school librarian) and have gotten used to it. A swivel stool for when I need to sit, perhaps.

For now, I use a standard swivel office chair without armrests (but with my Purple cushion!). I had used a cushy suede chair with armrests, but when I stood up, the chair would lift and the arms would rise and bump the bottom of my worktable--SO annoying! I can now prop my arms on the tabletop if I need to.

If you are short like me, a good footrest is a pleasure, too. The one I use (nubs to rub for a foot massage, plus warm or cool air) is no longer available, but I'm sure there are similar ones.

I totally agree with this review!! I LOVE this chair--my sciatic nerve pain is greatly reduced when I'm using this chair. I have the turquoise armed chair. Now if this were made in the stool height for counters, I'd LOVE that!!

It's TOTALLY WORTH the money. My sciatic nerve pain is lessened quite a bit when I use my chair. I have the armed chair in turquoise. I bought hubby the gray bungee chair. He is a larger man, and fits very well in this chair.

I have a relatively cheap chair, but it is okay because I stand a lot. I'd like a better chair for when I am coloring, but I've had a hard time finding one (I'll admit I've only looked on Amazon). I like chairs with no arms because I usually sit with my legs crossed and arms can get in the way. If anyone knows of a reasonably priced chair with no arms, I would love to check it out.

You mean THESE?
https://www.containerstore.com/shopp...ee-chairs.html

SERIOUSLY, this is the most comfortable chair I have used. I have back issues & my Bungee chair is a life saver.

These particular chairs do go on sale & that's when I bought one for me & one for hubby. We both use the armed chairs. My mom uses the one without the arms.

It would be awesome if they made counter height bungee chairs.

I also prefer a chair with no arms, because I can't get close enough to the table or desk if arms are in the way. I also always sit with one leg tucked underneath, which is probably why I have sciatica...sigh.

me too! I actually brought home 4 chairs from when I worked at Liberty Mutual. Two chairs were given to us, and I paid about $10. each for the other 2. One I gave to my MIL, one sits at my desk computer, one at my late husbands desk computer, and one in my craft room. That one has arms - love it.

hmmm.. the bungee chair with arms was the last chair our office purchased just before I retired. I didn't think it was as comfortable as the chair prior to that (the one in my craft room now) ...

I too bought a fave chair at Staples, $300 but worth it because I can roll everywhere and the arms are quite long so easier to use for standing up. I find if I stand when putting pieces together, I end up with fewer pieces just slightly crooked.

I use a drafting table chair bc my table is a very old inexpensive drafting table I keep flat. No arms. I like it because the height is adjustable. My table is all the way up so I could store stuff under it by putting wood planks across the under frame. Plus I can stand at it if I want to.

My bad back does not like any chair. My ortho doc says sitting is the worst position for a back in any case. I have to get up often anyway to get to supplies or whatever so that protects me.

My chair is from Office Depot https://www.officedepot.com/a/produc...rgonomic-Mesh/ Yeah, it's pricey. A gift from my husband. I've had it for a few years now and it's been wonderful as everything adjusts on it. My dream chair, however, would be double-wide, flat seat with a good cushion, and without arms. The lotus position is the most comfortable sitting position for me when I paint or color. My current chair won't allow it but for about 10 minutes at a go, and my space won't accommodate a second chair, but some day...

Well, I had to have surgery on my lower back. I've used one of those foam donuts but even that stopped helping. The bungee chair works for me because my body has support on the seat, lower back & upper back.

If you can get to a Container Store, you can try them out. They also have a generous return policy.

I think it's hard to find something of high quality now, especially when there are children, you need to think about quality first
