Tutorial organization
 

I have a very small craft room so space is an issue.

I have an ever growing collection of tuturoials, sketches, tips and ideas.

I am looking for your suggestions as to how i can store these in a small space.

Ideas anyone?

I scanned almost all of this kind of stuff and keep it on my computer.

I did this originally and my computer crashed and I lost it all and had to start again....I am at a loss ...I really dont know what the answer is .

I have a few different binders with tutorials and different ideas. I also have them on the computer and backed them up to a CD

I also have a small craft room, I use a 2 drawer file cabinet that fits in the corner to store all my printed tutorials and such. i also use it for all my 81/2 x11 cs. Keeps everything neat and organized.

I used to have several binders with the same. I found that I never went back to them, so I threw everything out. I found that I could get everything I needed online. The only binder I have now catalogs my PTI sets and card ideas I've found using them.

If you still save the ideas on your computer, and if you have a CD burner, I would get some rewriteable CD's and back up my folders periodically. This would take almost no space in your craft area.

Save files from your computer to a memory stick. They store tons of info. DH found some tiny ones at Staples by the checkout for $9.99 for 4GB, I think.

When I first started stamping I used two 2-drawer filing cabinets I have but found I would just forget about the stuff in them. I also don't always want to start up my computer after earning a living on one all day long so I just have everything in binders. I store everything from Tutorials to Card Maps I follow, magazines I subscribe to and even templates for boxes and things are in binders. This works best for me and I like being able to grab one off the shelf and flip through it. I guess its all about what you think will work best with your style and personality.

I don't have a computer close to my craftroom so I print and put in a 3 ring binder. I put tutorials in one and cards I want to case in another. Has worked out so far.

I have been using these little gems for the last year. If your computer crashes; you still have the information, and you can save on two different USB drive sticks; if anything happens to one of them,you have a backup.
You can label each memory stick, by organization theme, also. These little gems, take up the least amount of space possible and can be stored in a safe small plastic box

Last January I tossed out most of my samples pics and only kept tutorials I thoght I'd really use. I keep some things on my PC and have backups but I find it boring opening files looking for things. Yes I have them labeled and stored in folders like (bags, boxes, watercolor, etc.) but how descriptive can a file name get? After awhile I'd just rather look at a picture in a binder. Also, I have to print the tutorial when I decide to make it as my monitor is not close enough to my PC desk.

This year I was harsh with my cleaning efforts - I only kept tutorials I honestly know I'll make. I tossed out things that had supplies I'd only use for one technique, over the top complicated, etc. Now I have one 2" binder for techniques instead of multiple 2" binders. Sample card pictures I kept 100 pictures since if I haven't made them in a year, I probably will never make them. I have five 1" binders: Layouts, punches, templates, paper flowers, sample cards. I think this will work for me.

Love the idea of that; but really wanted to comment on your sentiment below your signature: It is so true, Satan trembles everytime we are on our knees rather strong or weak.

I've signed up for trial. I dont see a cost. I tried another but it didnt keep the folders as I had them. Can you give me any tips?

You know, Ted, you made me think of something. Microsoft One Note. It's a great organizational tool. I know it's a computer program still, but I could back it up to a thumb drive every week or two....Thanks for the idea!

I keep mine in binders. If it's a funky fold or something, I paperclip a sample to the tutorial. I organize them by catagory.

I keep mine stored in binders as well. I back up everything on usb sticks, I was so happy I did when my computer crashed or I would have lost a lot of digi stamps I had bought.

I also have a binder that has an "inventory" of all the tutorials I have. It has a picture of the final project, what the title of the tut is and what binder it's in. When I downloaded the tutorials, I just cut and pasted the pictures into a document.
