Storage Woes
 

I am beginning to think that like a child in a candy store, I should not be left unsupervised on the internet.

This morning I had the absolutely brainy-riffic idea to google "stamp pad storage".

I heard the faint tolling of alarm bells far off in the back of my head, my evil inner child giggled with glee, as my pupils dilated, pulse quickened, and my wallet began whimpering in dread.

I saw thrifty ideas of cassette holders, I saw gorgeous handmade wooden display racks (drool), I saw the granddaddy SCRAPBOX (I bet that guy gets all the ladies!!)...

I feel feverish... *mops brow*

Talk me down!!!

A lot of those solutions have probably been used by someone here, so you can definitely slow yourself down by getting some feedback here on what has worked well for those with the same stamp pads as you. So much of your choice depends on your room and where you have to put it, too.

The one thing you don't want to do with storage is buy something and then decide it doesn't work for you. You just want it well thought out. I also think of storage solutions as an investment in my stamping supplies, so even though it's hard to part with stamp budget for storage, it's worth it. I recently purchased the Quickutz magnetic folders for my dies and it was expensive but I'm happy to have them neatly and safely kept and they're easier to use this way too.

I don't know if you came across this store, but I can recommend Organize More. I purchased ribbon organizers from there and they are very well made.

I guess I didn't exactly talk you down, did I!? Actually it sounds like you found lots of things you like - so instead of talking you down I guess my suggestion is just to slow down and be sure.

I have an Organize More unit for storing my stamp pads and I LOVE it.

You can PM a moderator and that might get it moved more quickly, or you could just copy & paste your original post over there!

Phantom - Thank you for your lovely replies. I like the Organize More site you suggested. The solutions look sturdy, and are very moderately priced as well.

Excellent point you make about making sure the solution I choose is the correct one. I don't want to end up with a closet full of stuff that didn't work.

I also found a few printable, and youtube video tutorials for making storage items out of foam core too.

I have an Organize More unit for my stamp pads...although I also looked at another site too...

Ink Pad Palace

The Organize More unit is where I keep my Stampin'Up ink pads (all 50 of them) and some of my "extra's" like my VersaMark and Black StazOn. I also just bought a small version for my StazOn inks....can't wait to get it...although that does mean clearing a space on my table for it!

I'm still thinking about getting one from the Ink Pad Palace for my Dew Drops and CatEyes...right now they are in a tackle box type container, but unfortunately, out of sight, which means that I don't use them!

I, too, think that you need to think about what works for you and your space. I love having my stamp pads in front of me...and the Organize More container isn't very deep, so it doesn't take up alot of table space.

If I didn't already have a system, I think that I would go with the Ink Pad Palace.

I started looking into this a couple of years ago, and what struck me as the best was those old wooden cassette storage cases that were labeled as coming from a winery I think.

I looked on ebay, and they were not cheap, and I never won an auction. Then, one day, I was on freecycle, and someone advertised cassette storage that they no longer needed, and I decided to ask for it. I was lucky enough to get it from a couple just a few blocks from me. It was free, and it was the exact winery cases that I was looking for! I couldn't believe my luck!!!!
So, my suggestion is freecycle. If you don't belong, it is a yahoo group that you join for free. You join for your zip code, so things are within a reasonable distance to go and pick up.
After you have posted to give away a few things for free, you are allowed to post a wanted item, and you can post for these cases. They are amazing!

Another vote for freecycle. They have amazing things - quite a variety.

Foam board is awesome!! I use it for just about everything. As for ending up with stuff that didn't work . . . I have about 40 storage cubes that didn't work! LOL I'll be Kijiji'ing them real soon. I've come to realize that my preferred storage style is open, where everything is where I can see it and love it regularly.

I have an Organize More ink pad holder and the only thing that I'd change is to make it BIGGER! LOL~ I'm an inkpad junkie, so I have tons of them and am out of room already, even with the biggest one they sell.

I also have a SU inkpad caddy and I love it. I'll be ordering a second one in the next week. I really like to use storage solutions that are designed for the product that I'm storing. So SU inkpads in the SU caddy.

I'm still working on a solution for the smaller spot/teardrop stamp pads. Right now, they are in a single layer on non-slip padding in a 3 drawer jetmax. I can find what I need easily, but I need to find a way to double layer them. Maybe an acrylic frame, hmmmm....
