Default Moving/downsizing question

In 2 months we will be moving from our home (where I have my own scraproom) to 1 large room in my daughters house for approx 1 year. Just trying to figure how to pack this all up is giving me a H/A! Has anyone here packed and stored their precious stuff for a year? Any suggestions about what are the bare bones I should keep out? I certainly can't go a year without crafting. Any precautions I should take with my paper or stamps? Thanks for your input.

I haven't had to store my supplies for that long, but have for shorter periods. You didn't mention where you will be storing (in daugher's house vs renting storage). The one concern that comes to mind if renting a storage unit or even using a garage is that some supplies could be suceptible to heat, humidity, and freezing cold. Paper can warp, adhesives on wood blocks melts or becomes crumbly, etc. If that might be an issue, maybe consider a unit with climate control. Otherwise just make sure things like paper and ink pads are packed flat. During one of our military moves, some of my inks were just thrown in a box (someone else did packing) and the multi-color ink pads combined into one very unpleasant color of brown.

As for supplies to keep for use, I would keep out the basics like good scissors, paper cutter, favorite adhesive, black ink, favorite coloring medium (markers, colored pencils), and maybe a small supply of embellishments and white ribbon that can be colored to match project. I have my travel tote I use for classes and traveling which includes the things listed above. I have a small container made for beads with a selection of different embellishments. This seems to work for me when traveling (sometimes between moves). Choosing a limited number of stamps and paper can be hard. Try to plan out some projects before hand and pick out the supplies you would need for those projects. Try to use stamps that are versatile and can be used on a number of projects.

Good luck with your move. I know what a headache packing can be!

Thanks! I was worried about the paper storage, still unsure about renting a unit or storing in attic/garage. Sound like it might be worth the money to rent. I can definately have a "traveling" bag. Great ideas.
