I assume you are talking about SU! background stamps.
Christina - bkg = background. Well, I assume it is.
Let me horrify you all. Not only do I take ALL of my SU! stamps out of their boxes, I THROW them away (the boxes, not the stamps, that would be silly).
I like to be able to see as much of my stuff as possible.
Interesting topic. I am almost done unmounting my SU sets only and I was debating whether I wanted to unmount my BG stamps. I only have around 15 or so BG stamps and I have them out of the plastic boxes and in a drawer with the label up so I can see what it is and just grab it. What is the easy mount? Is it the clear plastic you put over the top so it will cling to the acrylic? I have tried tack it over and I hate it so I am looking for something new. Since I had 1500 stamps at last count 28 drawers of non SU alone there is no way I can leave them out. Can you tell I have never gotten rid of any of my stamps? (except 2 that I gave away)
Oh yeah, and I am stressing about throwing away the boxes and wood. I will keep a few to keep embellishments in but that's it.

I only have four background stamps, so I unmounted them from the wood blocks and put them in the DVD storage cases from SU. One per case. Those blocks were too large for my hands to handle and heavy too.
I can't help but laugh at seeing this thread again after 5 years! I still have all those BG stamps, but have to admit that I've hardly used them at all in past couple of years.
I'm thinking back to the time when using patterned paper seemed almost like cheating on my stamps! LOL!!!
It's funny how we come across an interesting thread, only to find out it was started a long time ago! I've done it myself. I never even looked at the original posting date on this one. Just assumed it was current since the buzz currently is about unmounting stamps we have! I just unmounted my background stamps (as I said, I only had four so it wasn't too time consuming).

LOL!! I remember that too, I never used patterned paper because I had BG stamps!! Now, sadly, BG stamps reside in my drawer, but since the embossing folders are right next to them they do at least get sunlight when I open the drawer to use those.

My poor neglected bg stamps! I did touch them to unmount them (put the sticker over the foam) and discovered the cuttlebug clear a plate works great to use them... I just don't (use them). Hopefully they will make a come back. Till then, they take up less real estate!
I have all mine standing up, on the top shelf of a bookcase where I store my stamp sets. So they are about at eye level. I made a label (Avery) for the side of each one, so I just tip my head to the left and I can read all the labels at one time. (But I have so many that I can't fit another one up there!) It's so much handier than having to look through all the cases to find just the one I want, and it's so much easier to put them away. I really like this system. I also do this for any misc. large single stamps.
Mine are all on EZmount or reduced to bare rubber and sit in a stack on a shelf!!
And where did you get a block big enough to fit them? am curious
I took mine out of the clear cases and they are stored in the Jet Max Cube that has the four drawers and they store perfectly standing on their sides I put a label on the side to say the name and then did them alphabetically
I always used them face-up, applying paper to stamp instead of stamp to paper, so I unmounted them all down to bare rubber - no EZ Mount, no TIO&O - just plain rubber. They are just laying on top of each other in a clamshell case - ten will fit. I was concerned about whether they would be likely to warp or whatever, but I've asked some extremely knowledgeable sources (including here on SCS), and common consensus is that I'm okay doing this... I've got three of them stacked on a shelf so they stay flat.
I use a Napa Valley CD case my Son outgrew. It has two sides. I throw away the clamshell box.
OMG .. you throw away the boxes??? Please tell me it isn't so !!!! I'm shaking from the thought. They are so awesome to store many different things. I like using them to store my re-inkers.

Mine are not mounted, so I put them in DVD cases and keep them in a basket next to my desk. I don't have room for one stamp to take up that much space! LOL
I have 3 background stamps. 2 are on their wood blocks in clamshell cases, the other one I converted to clear mount and store in a clear mount case. They're kept in a sterlite drawer. I like the effect of background stamps, but they're a pain to handle and clean, so I haven't bought any others.
