Default Matching SU Punches with Stamp Sets

How do you keep track of which stamp sets go with which punch? I'm on an organizing kick. I just tucked little pieces of washi tape in the SU Sizzix envelopes of all the dies with the names of the matching stamp sets. But I'm trying to think what I want to do with the punches. I've got ones dating back to 2005. I'm thinking of sticking a small white address label on them with the name of the matching stamp sets? Anyone have any suggestions of what you do? I'd love to think in 5 years I'll remember the name of the sets that match the owl punch for example, but I know I won't! I am right now googling which tag and label sets go with which sets. And years ago, I thought I'd remember what those go to off hand!

I have always printed the name of the punch with my label maker and put in on the bottom of the punch. The stamp sets that have a coordinating punch, I use a small sticky note and write the name of the punch and place it on the stamp set. (The majority of my stamp sets are in clear plastic bags!)HTH

I just recently began writing the stamp set names onto the sleeves of their coordinating dies and the die names onto the stamp cases in permanent marker to make things easier for myself. I also write the embossing folder names in large print on the paper that has the image of it (I keep them in the cello sleeve they come in) because I often can't read the micro-font of the manufacturer! Prior to that, I was holding myself hostage to the idea that I didn't want to deface the original packaging, thinking if/when I may want to sell anything it would be more appealing "clean" lol! With my eyesight not quite as fine as in the past, I came to the realization that, hey, this is my stuff and I need to do what works for me! And while I have been writing the punch name onto the matching stamp case, I've been pondering how to label the punch itself- there's only so much real estate available on the body of even the largest of punches. I hadn't thought about, but like Connie's method of using a label maker to add on the punch name. I'l be interested to see other responses to the OP, as I, too, thought as a new demo that I'd be able to rely solely on memory for such info. Now I just chuckle when I realize my folly!

I use the punch with usually green cardstock and then place the punchies in the container with the stamps . I store my stamps in a cupboard behind my work space and my punches are all in bottom two drawers of my desk. This helps me remember when I pull out a stamp set that I have a matching punch.

My stamps are in the plastic containers with a removable paper description. I slide it out and, at the bottom, write "coordinates with...". The dies are on magnetic sheets in pages in plastic boxes (forget the exact name!) and have a list of contents: die name and under that the stamp set name (why can't they be the same!) Of course, I am behind on getting this done for all the pieces.

I write on the stamp set sleeve, has coordinating punch and then punch out the shape and place it in the stamp case as a reminder of what the punch shape looks like.

Couldn't you just punch the shape and attach/adhere/store it with the stamp set? That sounds the easiest to me. Add the name and where you store the punch if needed.

ETA: didn't read the whole thread first. Great minds think alike!

I draw around the image of the stamp in my index with a colored pen and then write "see punch" or "see die".

I’m liking the idea of punching it and storing the pieces with the stamp set. I really need to do this for punches, asa well as dies. Wish I had started when I first bought some,

I'm the one who started this thread over two months ago... and I'm still working on this! I got through all the dies... just still working on the punches. I have to google quite a lot of sets and punches to match them up, which just gets overwhelming sometimes, so I always end up saying, I'll finish this up tomorrow. That goes about as well as my Halloween and Thanksgiving cards that never went out. I swear, I'm getting Christmas out on time this year!!!

Did you make a master list that you can share?

Are you asking about a master list for the dies? I can type that up for sure. I only have about 20 sets of those. The punches I'm still working on but can certainly type that up once I'm done! I probably won't be able to get around to that project until after the New Year though!

thanks for all of your efforts to help us get organized. I try to just "remember" all this stuff - but "senior moments" keep getting in the way.

Okay, hopefully I won't get into any trouble for this... thanks and apologies to the original creator of this chart...

I took the spreadsheet in the other thread and converted it to a PDF. The list is several years old, but maybe it will still help a bit. Hopefully, I can figure out how to add this to this post.

Copy of STAMPIN UP PUNCH COMPATABILITY LIST.pdf

Good luck!

Came up with a quick and easy way to identify my dies w/ matching stamps and/or punches w/stamp sets. I hole punch 2 small cardstock, dsp,or glitter paper circles and attach them to the matching items in question with a tiny sticky dot. A quick glance at my punches/dies illustrates presence of colored dot which means there is a corresponding stamp set. I attach the dots to the spine of the stamp box, on the picture right side of the flat punch. and on the cover top right of the plastic die holder. After using single dots, I graduated to two dots and am currently stringing 3 dots together for newer sets. This has saved me from purchasing duplicates.

Isparrow, I love this quote from you: Prior to that, I was holding myself hostage to the idea that I didn't want to deface the original packaging, thinking if/when I may want to sell anything it would be more appealing "clean" lol! I thought I was the only one who did that. Now I'm at the point that if I didn't keep the packaging, I would have to spend a ton of money to use another filing system. Currently, all my stamps & coordinating dies are kept by manufacturer and my punches are kept by theme. Need to find a better system.
