Ikea Weekend!!

went to Ikea this weekend. Twice. LOL!
We went Saturday for a loveseat that pulls out to a bed and of course it was out of stock, but expected in Saturday night for availability Sunday. So while we were there I bought a skinny dvd shelf that I wanted for my unmounted stamps (I am unmounting all my sets). My dh talked me into buying two figuring eventually I would need the second and it wouldn't be there then OK!)

DH and I don't do assembly projects together without getting frustrated with one another, so I asked my sister to come over today and help put it together. YEA!! This will give me so much room and storage space in my room.
right now all my stamps are in Expidit cubes. They really are too big for the dvd cases.
Of course I redid my room just before the unmounting craze hit me. Otherwise I would have bought a different configuration altogether.
But this will help
IKEA | Living room storage | DVD & CD furniture | BENNO | CD/DVD shelf unit in white.

we went back sunday and got the loveseat. I am glad we only live 20 minutes from Ikea. I thought of all the people who drive hours to shop there and how bummed I would have been.

GramMcCaul 05-16-2011 05:12 AM

like that unit - can't wait til I get to shop there - the closest one is 2 hrs away and though this isn't a terrible ride so far DH hasn't had "the time" !

I love IKEA too, especially since they pay my bills ;)

Are you near the Conshy or Philly store? I'm dying to meet some crafters!

debbie derocher 05-18-2011 04:37 PM

Ikea is a dangerous store for us crafters. I'm on vacation next week and can't wait to go. Thank goodness there's one about l/2 hr away. My craft room is mainly from Ikea, you can't beat their prices! Love it!

I am near the Conshy store. Where are you?

Leeann34 05-19-2011 05:48 PM

I live about 8 miles past Pottstown, not too far.

I bought 6 racks from Ikea. Regular price is $9.95 each, but found them on sale for $4.00 each. I had planned on painting or staining them, but started using them as is.

They hold 29 DVD cases per unit. I just used liquid nails to adhere them together and mounted them on my wall. I almost put them together and placed on wheels to be mobile, but at the last moment, changed my mind and mounted them on the wall.

And as you can see, I have a "few" more spaces left to fill.:D

Going to Ikea today!!!:-)

inkymommy 05-30-2011 10:04 AM

I went to Ikea on Saturday. And the Container Store!! It was an organizer's dream day!

magmoss 05-30-2011 06:37 PM

ohhhhh...the container store :-)

sleepyinseattle 05-30-2011 07:24 PM

Oh my, we went there today and were in that store for almost 5 hours. I got some clear containers, jars for my buttons and embellishments, wicker baskets for my Sizzix dies.
Not to mention a bed, lamps, a love seat, sheets, cubes for the shelf unit and a cool metal credenza for my son's Xbox. A very expensive day.

StampingRealtor 06-27-2011 08:40 AM

I believe they are on sale right now. I noticed them this weekend and they weren't $45.00. I am not 100% sure, but I think they were $29.99 this past weekend.

Zarine 06-27-2011 01:22 PM

That's an excellent idea for putting unmounted stamps. It should allow you to keep them close to your work space.

Is this what you used?

IKEA Magic!!

IKEA was the perfect place to make my craft area happen! I have a window wall in my bedroom with a customized five piece living room unit that holds sewing, scrap booking and stamping all at my fingertips!! oh and some books too...I bought the coordinating desk as well for swapping out my laptop, sewing machine or stamping/scrapping items. My own little piece of crafting heaven!

asuncionshija 07-02-2011 09:53 AM

I am *so* jealous! I live out here in the land of no Ikea for hundreds (if not a thousand) miles.
HOWEVER, they *are* opening one that will be about an hour and a half from me... in twenty five days! I can't wait!! :D

mrshungria 07-03-2011 03:35 AM

OMG, asuncionshija, watch out! You're going to be AMAZED! Ours is about 45 minutes away from here. My husband is about to go on a trip and I'm making a secret trip there while he's gone. We go 2-3 times a year and he thinks I always spend too much money. But this will be the first time my 4 year old twins can go (last summer they weren't potty trained) and play in the play area while I shop! Then I'm going to assemble everything when he's gone and have it in place. It's like a surprise for him and for me, and all for good!

I loved looking at all these pictures! I too was looking for SU! DVD storage. Thank you ladies!

asuncionshija 07-03-2011 10:43 AM

Uh, a kids area too? Oh, my.... :D

I've been going through Ikea withdrawls for 6 years now. When we lived in Germany, Ikea was only a 1 hour drive to Saarlouis (through beautiful green country, too). Then we get stationed in southern New Mexico. The nearest Ikea from here is an 8 hour drive to Scottsdale AZ (through crappy brown desert scrub). btw - I just recently discovered The Container Store (during a trip to San Antonio), and I am in love. And of course, the nearest one is, again, in Scottsdale AZ. Can you tell how much I really hate living here?

LauraJean 07-05-2011 02:59 PM

Going to IkEA July 16th :) I have the EXPEDIT system for my craft are a and LOVE it. I'm getting another 8-cubby shelf unit which will be my new TV Stand in the living room after I move.

Hey Su ~ wanna see pictures of your revamped space! :)

mrshungria 07-06-2011 04:30 AM

Magmoss, thanks for posting the one that you used - it's on my list for next week's IKEA trip! The list just keeps getting longer and longer and longer...;)

craftymeemaw1 07-11-2011 05:28 AM

Hi ladies I am Toni. I love the Ikea stuff but do not have anything (Yet) We have one in I think Frisco near Dallas here which about an hour or so drive for me. I don't drive Dallas so am just waiting for DH to take me when he gets the time off. Did anyone hear last week sometime, I think it was on HLN or CNN, that Ikea is lowering there prices this year by 3% and then not sure how much but again next year also? YAY can't wait to go!! I want one of those large expidits and the workstation with the table my little table just isn't big enough to spread out always so crowded.

SuG 07-11-2011 05:45 AM

good news for sure!

Donnagwd 07-11-2011 09:10 AM

Ummmm. Now I'm wondering if I should make an IKEA trip this week. It's about 2 hours away...

Sad, I'm picturing everyone in NM storing all their stuff in cardboard boxes and plastic bags!

Btw there's a new store opening in Denver CO in 2 weeks, it's 2 hours closer to you than Tempe/Scotsdale so maybe there's another central US store coming closer to you soon.

Sweet! I'd much rather spend a couple days in Denver as opposed to the surface of the Sun (aka Phoenix). Looks like we'll be planning a road trip soon. Thanks for the heads up!

Winnipeg Manitoba Canada Ikea opening next spring. Can hardly wait. The closest to us was Minneapolis 7 hours away.
Yay us.....
and our NHL team back to boot.

JulieLew 07-18-2011 10:17 AM

I LOVE IKEA!! I went yesterday with my hubby and bought 2 Expedit's plus several storage boxes.

While looking at all the bookshelf options, we met another couple who were buying for a scrapbook room in their house. The only difference is her husband was super excited and making all sorts of suggestions about different options. Mine was saying "you can get it if we can go now!"

We have so much fun shopping at Ikea, but always leave pooped!

BTW....what is a DH?

So happy for you !!! But envious, still waiting for dh to get time off. I do not drive the interstate lol especially anywhere near Dallas.:(

wanda50 07-19-2011 04:27 AM

OMG!!! I went there on Sunday. OMG!!! What a store to behold. I did manage to get out of there without blowing my entire budget. I live about 1 hour 45 minutes from IKEA and I can't wait to go back. Saving up now....Craft Room in the making. :=)

Lazorkay 08-05-2011 07:36 AM

Can anyone tell me what material is used to make the Alex drawer units or the Expedit cases? I can not find a thing on the website or in the catty

thanks

And it is only about a km from our house - my friends are joking that it is being built close to me because I have given them my postal code when I have shopped in Minni so often that they know they are going to make a killing off of me!

We are heading to Minni next week - I can't wait another year to get to IKEA! I need about 5 more byvgel (sp?) racks for my punches.

mrshungria 08-07-2011 10:03 AM

When I saw this post come up again, I surely thought everyone was going gaga over the new 2012 catalog! It just arrived in the mail yesterday here! Is it true that it's only in stores this year or if you order on-line? I thought I had missed the day it came with the newspaper, but I CAN'T WAIT to look through it! Another trip is definitely in my future!

wenchie 08-08-2011 06:08 AM

We're getting an IKEA here in 15 months! There's never been one here because a local furniture manufacturer managed get the city to agree to block IKEA from coming here for 20 years. Ridiculous! I'm sure if people knew this there'd have been a revolt LOL
