Default How do you store your dies?

I'm having a huge organization problem. ^-^ I love my Bigshot and dies, but all I've come up with is throwing all the dies in a drawer. It's not really helping as I can never see what I've got.

How do you do it? Are there good systems to organize them...?

I really like the storage boxes from Stampin' Up. They're really sturdy & look nice too. You can buy just the inserts too if you wanted to have them in a drawer without the boxes.

I also use the SU! storage boxes. I saw "somewhere" that a person took the lids off and put her boxes on their sides so she could see the dies like they are on shelves. For Nesties I LOVE the QuicKuts magnetic books.

I also use the SU boxesmfor my dies. For my embossing folders I use one of the forget me not keepers they used to sell. I have them divided by SU, Tim Holtz and cuttlebug. Even though I have a lot of them, I still have a ton of room. I took them all out of the package and wrote the names of them right on the folders. Still trying to figure out storage for my nesties tho.

I store my dies on a bookshelf - about 6x12x50. They are in alphabetical order on the shelves. The movers are on a metal star on the wall above; the alphabets in a drawer in the counter next.

I plan to index my dies and embossing folders. I'll be cutting out/embossing each shape, placing them on a sheet of paper and put them in page protectors in a notebook or maybe just on an O-ring that I can hang above my die cutting area so I can easily refer to them. I'll add a note next to each one telling me where I can find it. (Note: my note will be made so that I can put a new label over it in case I rearrange and change storage locations.)

I'm in the process of organizing. My Big Shot sits on top of a short chest of drawers. The middle drawer holds my old Sizzix alphabet and punctuation (from my old red Sizzix die-cut days). The top drawer will hold other Sizzix-style (ie: thick, heavy) dies. I have a pegboard mounted above the drawer with several pegboard baskets. I plan to put my dies and embossing folders on peg hooks and in baskets.

My collection is small. If it were really big, like most crafters, I'd probably put them on my bookcase, lining up the Sizzix die (like books) and putting the thin dies and embossing folders in lidless boxes on the shelf for easy access. I'd still make an index that I could easily add to as my collection expands.

I made my own pages for use in 3 ring binders for my Spellbinders dies and embossing folders. I just use (recycle) chipboard from cereal & cracker boxes. The embossing folder pages I used page protectors and sew them to hold either 2 full size or 8 small folders. The Spellbinders dies have magnetic strips to hold the dies. I think I just looked on YouTube for ideas. I'd rather spend money on fun stuff instead of stuff I can make. I added some pics to show my pages. How do you store your dies?-spellbinders-storage2.jpg

I use the paper CD envelopes and put them in a 3-liter Really Useful Box (which is the perfect size for these envelopes.) I made dividers out of pressboard, cut just a little taller than the envelopes. The best part is that I already had everything on hand. For the larger ones, I used magnetic vent covers (you can find them at Lowes or Walmart); put adhesive on the back and adhered magnetic side out on the end of a cabinet right next to my Cuttlebug area. Everything is easily accessible, so I can use what I have.

I store my spellbinder dies in a magnetic storage book - black.

As seen here: CC-MAGBOOK-BLK: Magnetic Storage Book - Black

Right now I have 3 of them and I'm needing to get 2 more books.

They hold a lot of Spellbinder dies. and other metal dies.

All other dies that I own. I keep in a plastic Shoe box for now. Until I can find something else.

Default Sizzix storage

Since the sizzix dies come in various sizes, I have them stored in different ways. My Tim Holtz and regular sizzix dies are in the medium storage boxes similar to the SU storage boxes. I didn't like the black so I ordered the pink ones from JoAnns.

My Bigz (long dies) and my Bigshot Pro dies are stored on a utility cart along with my Bigshot Pro.

I have more available wall space than I do shelves or desk top, so I purchased some wall mounted magnetic knife holders and metal rings. Each set of spellbinder nesties is held together on the metal ring and then the metal ring to the magnetic strip. All of my other dies are also put on a magnetic strip. I've very much a visual person so this helps me see what is available while I'm creating a card and much easier to just place the die back on the metal strip when I'm done.

I have my various styles in drawers.

Sizzix are in plastic drawers, in their clear package but with the hanger section cut off. The label sits at the top and the illustration is on the front of the packet. The die cuts that come with the die are inside.

Cuttlebug dies are in a smaller drawer that I divided with foam core to suit those and jewel cases.

Nesties are in the jewel cases.

EFs are on their sides in the drawer as they are the same height. The tiny EFs for the CB are held together with an elastic band and stored in the front.

Everything is sorted by subject matter.

I have mine in different ways because of the sizes. The Nesties are in DVD cases stored in a Really Useful Box.

The Big Shot dies are in a Really Useful Box, a tote box and a pattern storage box.

So I had to go online to find these pictures.. The one with the red binders is NOT mine nor my idea so I cant take credit for it, IF you are on SCS and it is yours KUDOS love it.. I wanted to show how you could line up the dies

The other picture is from Michaels to show what cubes I mean.

I use the top right cube with the 4 drawers and the Bigshot Dies that are like the top note? Sorry early and not having the best of luck trying to 'splain.. The dies fit with the label showing and you can put a whole ship load (yeah I know another word would fit) Those little drawers are also perfect for 6x6 paper pads.

As far as my Nesties I use the boxes like efromahawaii, I first put them on a magnet sheet cut down to a cd sleeve holder and the label that comes from the packaging I cut to fit the sleeve and insert it too.. (confused yet? Lol)

I love decorative baskets in my craft room. I choose SU boxes also, and need more,
in an upright decorative lined pretty basket.

I have a DVD storage box that I use. I had my local office supply store cut me a bunch of chip board at 5 x 7. I then went to my local dollar store and purchased magnetic adhesive sheets which I adhered to the chip board. This system works great for me and is easy to pack up to go to retreats. I've attached photos

Do you know the measurements of those inserts? The catalog only tells you the box sizes. Thanks!

Very low tech here: on the floor in a large Sterlite storage box with the Big Shot sitting on the lid. I have a very small collection of dies so this method should work for some time.

I took a different approach. I want all my embossing folders and dies in the same place. I also want them out of the dust. So I found a decorative box, cut some folders down to the right size and used magnetic vent covers for the nestibilities. I've posted pictures in a thread on here somewhere. I also wrote descriptions and posted pictures on my blog. I'm very happy with it and it's pretty

love your use of "free / recycle" cardboard. I like your idea and I think I'm going to use it myself. I've been saving the cardboard from the small stuffing mix boxes because it is perfect size to make card organizers with.

I use both drawers and magnetic folders. My Big Shot is on a table next to my cabinet so I keep my Big Shot dies and embossing folders in my drawers. I have my Sizzix dies in Quick Kuts magnetic folders. I have 5-6 of them. I plan on having an index binder so I know what I have.

That is why I used glittery card stock in my stamp cases that I used for my nesties.

I store the few spellbinders I have on the side of my plastic drawers, attached with strips of magnets (in the video I posted the other day). There are a few in CD cases, but not many.

The larger die cuts (Tim Holtz ect) are in one of the plastic crates that I have screwed to the wall, only really use two of them.

LOL - I use at least one of the "small" size stuffing mixes about every two weeks. I have a couple of recipes using pork chops with stuffing in addition to using it with poultry. So it doesn't take long to get a stash at my house.

I use the stuffing boxes as my templates for the other boxes I cut up. Like cereal or cracker boxes. Works great.

I really like the storage boxes from Stampin' Up. They're really sturdy & look nice too. You can buy just the inserts too if you wanted to have them in a drawer without the boxes.

I was blessed to find several of the original Sizzix towers, so most of my older Sizzix dies are in these. The Bigz dies are stored in boxes from Sizzix.com. They are often on sale for the Tuesday Teasers at that site. They are very sturdy, have dividers, and come in several colors - and are available for the regular dies too. The Sizzlets storage containers are also often on sale there. I keep my Nesties, Memory Box and single dies from small stamp companies in their original packaging in photo boxes that you can buy at Michaels. By keeping the packaging I can easily cite the exact name & manufacturer of the die when I upload.
