Default what's the most space effective way of storing clear stamps?

I've seen a lot of posts on clear stamp storage ideas, but I think my situation is a little different then most. I'm just getting into stamping, I have several sets already from a family member and I'm buying more this week. I just LOVE this craft! My problem is, I'm a senior in high school and will be moving to a dorm room next year. The dorms are especially tiny at the schools that I am considering, so I want to make sure now that I get my stamps organized in a way that allows me to bring as many with me as I can, and not take up a ton of room. If my collection becomes large, I'm afraid cd cases might take up too much room.

I had mine in binders, each binder was divided into different catagories, but I just did not like it. It took up too much space. I Googled and found an adorable Clear Stamp Storage file box that included a lid and dividers, but it did not hold enough to handle all my clear stamps. So I set out to find a box, basket, etc. to make my own filing system. I measured my largest stamp and then looked for a container that was not too deep, high, or wide to hold all my stamps. It took awhile, but I found a cute basket that has a hinged lid at Michaels. I came home and cut manila file folders to fit and labled them into catagories, then filed my stamps. This system works best if your stamps are still in their orginal package or a cd case. So far I am happy with the system.
Good Luck at college!

The original packaging is probably the way to go for you, especially when your storage situation isn't permanent. Clear bags, like the ones many brands are already packaged in, are cheap and easy to find for those sets that don't already have them (like Papertrey).

I started stamping when I was in college (10+ years ago) and kept everything in one of these Sterilite 3-drawer units. It wasn't ultra-portable for crafting away from my desk, but it was small, easy to use, and a cinch to move (just secure the drawers with packing tape and you're good to go). I kept paper in one drawer, stamps in another, and inks/tools in the last. When I had room to spread out in my first apartment, I bought another. And later, another. I still use the originals plus half a dozen more. They've been stacked in a tower next to my desk, lined up on a desk to create a short hutch, and filling wall-to-wall shelving depending on my living/crafting space. They're my go-to storage pieces and I use them every single time I craft.

I have tried so many ways in storing my clear stamps until I found the one that's best for me. I put mine in different Ultra Pocket Pro pages, then stored in a 3-ring binder (at least 3 inches thick). I just put tabs on each page to identify brands. Plus 3-ring binders are cheap in Walmart. You can see more details of this system here: Tinker Planet: Unmounted and Clear Stamp Organization
