Help please!! Downsizing space....
Hi ladies!!
I need to pick your brains, and get some ideas. We have moved into a much smaller home and thus my scraproom has shrunk. By more than 1/2. I went from having the entire basement at our old house, (which was 2 rooms, one that had floor to ceiling built in shelves!!) to just an extra bedroom now. Don't get me wrong, I am grateful I have a space at all!! I just really need some ideas on how to make everything fit into a much smaller room! Right now it's very cluttered and not very functioning. Tiny room tips please ladies!! |
First thing I would do is downsize the supplies. Go through everything you have and see what you use, what you don't. Get rid of what you don't need. I did that a couple years ago and it was the best thing I could have done.
For me, the biggest culprit is actually decorative paper. I buy it and hoard it and never use it. So I got rid of most of my 12x12 and paper pads. Only saved what was current or what I absolutely loved. If you find out what your biggest space hog is then maybe you can start there? And you can always sell things on the B/S board here to get some extra $$ to pay for shelving or what-not. |
I have a teeny tiny bedroom that I use as a craft room, office and storage room. Even so, I won't be much help because I'm struggling to get my stuff in order.
I do have a couple ideas that you might think about: 1) downsizing supplies, as Tracy suggested. Here is a link where several of us have given away items and received items here on SCS: http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...d-t536736.html 2) think like a store. Have a backstock area (perhaps boxes on shelves in the garage or in another closet) where you keep duplicates, out-of-season items, or overflow. 3) Make good use of your wall space. Put up some shelves or add a tall bookcase. I hung some white peg board to hang up some of my supplies. You can get pegboard baskets, too. Consider putting small iris-like carts under your craft table. |
I agree declutter.
Think how you can make the item instead of buy it. Make all your tool multi-functional. Go vertical in storage. Look into a Scrapbox. They are expensive but you might be able to make your own. |
Its a must to declutter. We are all guilty of hoarding far to much stash. Trust me, I craft from the back porch so its tiny tiny and then some. Good luck.x

Took clicking on a link to realize this was an ELEVEN year old thread!

I noticed I replied to the thread. I thought I don’t remember posting recently about downsizing, lol. Then I saw the date I posted. Which is funny because I am downsizing for my move. My advice still is good though, lol. Now, I need to use it.

That "make your tool multi-functional" is a good tip. For the kitchen as well as the craft room!

Fun to dig up an old thread!
kudos to Tracy for getting rid of 12 x 12 paper pads. I could never do that. I do, however, need to stop buying them. |
