My craft room is my converted school room and I have a large, magnetic white erase board right above my craft desk. I have a pull down map over it, so it can be hidden. I am looking for things that can be stored on it.
Any suggestions? I'd love to take the setup down and put it in the hallway, and hang cabinets, but I"m sure my husband won't go for that!
Thanks so much,
Karen

I wish the board was itself a magnet to store dies, but you have to hang magnetic hooks on the board and then hang the dies on those. Then they stick out.
Well I was going to suggest ribbon then if you have to use hooks. But if everything you have to hang up will need hooks, and them stick out. I guess nothing will work, if I understand you right.
I am not sure what to do then.

Shoot I would buy some magnets at HL and pop those dies on them. Also you can get metal containers with clear lids and glue magnet on the bottom and you have a place to hold...jewels, brads...etc,
Why don't you get the vent covers and stick them to the board to make it a magnetic surface? I imagine a decent spray adhesive would hold them on there, and you could cover as much or as little as you wanted to, and then stick your dies up easily...
I wonder if there is an adhesive to put on the back of the magnets that wouldn't ruin the board if I were to remove it. This was actually something I bought new and was fairly expensive.
So KarenBinPa, your board is already magnetic? Well, I am seriously jealous. I would glue strips of metal to the item I need to store on it...I did that with map pencils for the kitchen knife strip.

Yes, it holds magnetic items, but not just metal. I wish I could just put a die on it and it would stick. If I adhere anything to it, and then remove it later, I think it would mess up the surface, which is also dry-erasable.

Here's another thought - put magnetic sheets of some kind (vent covers or magnetic strips) up with the Command strips designed to hold posters. If/when you want to take the magnets down, the Command strips come off cleanly, and the dry-erase surface is unscathed...
Hey Sue, that is a GREAT idea - I think that could be IT!
Are vent covers the largest type of magnetic sheet available? Does anyone know that? If I could get a larger roll, that'd be wonderful!

There's always velcro that you can stickto the board and adhere storage folders and pouches. I want a big magnetic white board.

These are large sheets, two cover one scrapbox panel. You would need to buy a frame, or just apply to a thin wood panel, available at a your local home improvement store. Most will cut it to the size you desire. Here's the link.

I think they are whiteboards that are magnetic??? I already have that - I'm trying to find something that is magnetic on both sides, or at least one side so I can hang them with the poster tabs as Sue suggested. The stuff from MFT is perfect. Ugh - I wish they knew.

It just occurred to me that we may have all been over-thinking this whole thing. If the dry-erase board will let magnets stick to it, then won't magnetic sheets stick without adhesive of any kind? And then the dies will stick to the magnetic sheets, and you're totally done with no mess or pain... I just tested a magnet stuck to my metal work bench - to see if metal would stick to the magnet that's stuck to the workbench - and it totally did, so I'm thinking it should work! (And yes, I AM from the Department of Redundancy Department, plus my grammar is real good, too, as well...);)

Yup, that's why I was looking at the plain magnet rolls - no adhesive, no vinyl. It's perfect. They are sending me some samples. Not sure how thick 12, 15, 20 ml translates into.

Was just about to post that my magnetic vent covers stick to each other, so it would be worth a try.
FWIW you could just buy the vent covers and then stamp them to make them decorative or lie them like subway tile to make a decorative feature.

So you put the magnetic plain side on the board, and still your dies on the decorated surface? Will they stick to it I wonder? Not sure if this would be less expensive or not. It's 60 odd dollars for a huge roll - I guess it depends if I can mind more areas to put in - thinking on the wall behind doors, where you can't have anything stick out too far.
I'll have to price it out. Thanks for all of the help and suggestions!

The vent covers are 8" x 15" apiece, so three of them combined would cover 8" x 45" or 15" x 24", depending on orientation. Cost is $4.47 at Home Depot. That's about 2 1/2 square feet, so roughly $1.87 per sf. The roll is about 100 sf, so at $67-ish per roll, it comes out to $.67 per sf. Of course, if you only want to cover, say, a 4' x 4' area, then you'd need 6 1/2 packages (in the real world, 7) of the vent covers, and you'd only spend less than half of what you would have on the roll, plus no shipping costs. On the other hand, if you had multiple uses for the roll or could split it with someone else, it would definitely be the more economical choice. Your call, obviously And yes, the dies will stick to either side of the magnetic surface...
