Dura-lar and cling rubber stamp storage

I want to organize my cling and clear stamps into some kind of system. I really like Jennifer McGuire's system using the Avery Elle pockets and clear refrigerator bins. Problem being is that i buy a lot of unmounted cling rubber stamps that come in just plastic bags. I need to mount them to some kind of storage sheet. Also a lot of my cling rubber stamps will not stick to their sheets I purchased them in. Mainly the Graphic 45 stamp sets. Some never used just will not stick to their sheets. I was thinking Dura-lar, but i thought I read somewhere that this is only good for clear stamps and not for unmounted cling rubber. Is this true? I also have some clear stamps i was going to transfer to the Dura-lar.

I really did not want to go the laminated way for storage. Any information on Dura-lar or how to store these stamps is appreciated.

Thanks.

This is not a definitive answer, but may be helpful... In other threads discussing safe storage for cling and photopolymer stamps, the main issue seemed to be the material that the stamps were stored on. Polyester was considered "safe" for pretty much every type of stamp. From what my limited research uncovered, Dura-lar is "an oriented polyester". I'm not sure what the "oriented" part means, but if it's polyester, it should be safe. Hope that helps at least a little...

Thanks for the info Sue.

I've been using GraFix acetate sheets for years with my clear and un-mounted rubber stamps with no ill effects.

Is that unmounted with cling cushion or just unmounted bare rubber?

Thanks

both - bare rubber has tombow mono on it

I bought 8x10 plexiglass sheets from Home Depot. They can be cut in half to fit in those refrigerator bins. I kept mine 8x10 and put them in a heavy duty basket that I can flip through. That would be a good sheet to store them on and each sheet is 1.99 at home depot. Good luck.

So has anyone taken their SU photopolymers out of the cases and done JM method of storage?

Mzteaze 01-15-2015 11:23 AM

I laminated white c/s with a picture of the stamp on front and back. I stick my cling stamps to the laminate card then made baggies using 2 mm plastic and an old Food Saver. All products I had in house.

I just started sticking the sheet with the images inside the layers on the back of the DVD case they come in and sticking the stamps inside the back of the case. (A 2 sheet set to the front side as well). This works really well for me

bunnystamper 01-15-2015 08:06 PM

I am trying to eliminate DVD cases that I really don't need. I figure if I ever decide to sell the m I will put them back in the cases. The Grafix duralar does it have an adhesive side or not.

I figure that having all my stamps stored in only ONE type of storage is the only way to go. I don't want some DVD, some CD, some in notebooks, some in bins...you see where I'm going.

So. All that said...yes, every SU set comes out of the DVD cases and into my version of Jennifer's storage. Doesn't matter if it's rubber or polymer.

gregzgurl 01-16-2015 09:04 AM

Ditto what Diane said...

bunnystamper 01-17-2015 07:46 AM

So who has the best price on the Duralar and Avery Elle sleeve?? I am going to start with my non-SU photopolymers first.

Rainie55 01-17-2015 08:28 AM

I purchased my Dura-lar from Michaels in the art department. It comes in a pad format. Scrapbookpal.com has the best price on the Avery Elle pockets. Plus free shippimg on all orders over $25.00

Diane, how do you store all of your stamps? I switched over to the dvd style cases (like the SU ones) and it still takes up a lot of room. I like J.M. style with the Avery Elle pockets but some sets have quite a few stamps in them. A long time ago I bought the Avery Elle pockets and ended up selling them because it seems like they weren't large enough to hould some of the sets! Stamp storage is something that I always seem to struggle with. Can't find something to suit my needs!! That is why I'm asking how you store your stamps!! Thank-you!

I think the best deal on the sleeves are the Simon Says brand. You can get 50 for about $10.

Simon Says Stamp Clear STORAGE SLEEVES 50 Quantity at Simon Says STAMP!

Amazon sells the 25 pack of Avery Elle for about $6 with Prime!

So what do you do with all of your empty cases? Do you sell them or keep them?

I'm not Diane, but my system is based on her system, and you can read about it HERE (post #7 in that thread). I've tweaked my system a bit from how she does hers, but it's similar enough to say so...

Thank-you Sue! I will check it out!

Are you still in Vegas? Hope all is going well for you!

gregzgurl 01-19-2015 02:15 PM

You are most welcome, and yes, I'm in Las Vegas. We moved here from Syracuse in October. I'm so, so sorry that you all got DUMPED ON so early in the season this year, but I'm so, so NOT sorry that I missed that particular event... ;)

If you have any questions just pm me!

Are you doing all your stamps like this or just the polymer?? I have way to many stamps to do it all but am thinking I may do the sets I have yet to unmount this way.

The JM method of storage. I am going to start on my polymers & MPP stamps on Sunday afternoon.

edie453 01-23-2015 03:19 PM

subbing.....I bought everything last year to go with the JM method and now I just need to do it. The DVD cases have exceeded the book case and I am looking forward to flipping through instead of pulling out the cases....this new thread is inspiring and encouraging

This is what I do too. I put my thin metal dies in the same case if it matches a stamp set or in one of its own if it stands alone.

I keep it all together divided by plastic file folders that I cut in to tabs. On SU stamps, I cut the pic out of the front to slide in the new envelope, then toss the rest.

Here you go....

Su stamps Clear mount rubber set... I just stuck the stamps to one of my laminated boards.. inserted the inserts.. and done.

Older su stamps that were originally wood mounted..I took them down to bare rubber.. applied some aileens tack it over on the back of the rubber.. ( some of the stamps I kept the clear stickers from the wood blocks if I could get them off.. if not no biggie) then I stuck them to a piece of heavy clear cardstock.. Eventually I will stamp a white cover index sheet to go in front.

Then SU Clear polymer stamps I just stick the clear set in a pocket with the insert.. (didnt take a pic of that sorry)

Well if you have that many. I would suggest you making your own laminated boards.. Grezgurl and another lady did that. They can help you out with that. I used clear cardstock... Or grafix from Joann's... I also used some stamp storage boards from Sunday international I'm not home now or I would try to find some links.

bunnystamper 01-28-2015 11:48 AM

OK thanks, for the suggestions. I am going to hobby lobby Saturday so I will look for Duralar while I am there.

Thanks

fionna51 01-29-2015 03:12 AM

Thanks, Sue, for directions to where I shared my storage for stamps. :) I have missed coming back to this thread for several days. Sorry.

I haven't changed anything since the post Sue sent you to. Except for adding more stamps of course...and adjusting the drawer content a bit to relieve some over-full drawers.

As for my SU dvd cases. I sell them or give them away. I've always had someone contact me whenever I comment (like Jennifer did above) in a thread like this that I have some to get rid of. Speaking of which... I have a stack right now. ;)

And as for my storage boards...they are half sheets of inexpensive white 110 pound cardstock (think Georgia Pacific from Walmart) laminated in Royal Sovereign laminating folders I bought from Sams in boxes of 200 for $20. I have confirmed that the Royal Sovereign is safe for storage, as it has no acetate content in the film.

stamphappy1650 01-29-2015 08:05 AM

slight hijack - use for DVD cases

I made Christmas gifts for the using the DVD cases. In the case was a covered notebook, a pencil, an eraser, and a bookmark. For adults the case had a pen and notebook. I wasn't sure they would like them but they were a big hit even with the adults as it seems in this digital age people still like to take notes. They are very handy for the car.

You can also put a few cards and envelopes in the DVD cases; I store my postage stamps and address labels in them. The rest were sold or given away.

THANKS! I'm in a group of ladies that meet almost every week to craft. We have an annual Christmas brunch to exchange gifts. I know what they'll be getting from me this year!!!! I can not tell you how excited I am that you shared this :) I just LOVE the SCS people.
