Avery Elle Storage Pocket question

Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone here has used the Avery Elle storage pockets. If you have can you tell me how you like them, how you used them. I need a new way to store stamps and am hoping this method will work.
Thanks for your help,
CK

AnnieWills 08-11-2013 08:22 PM

I moved all of my clear stamps as well as some cling sets (like my Hero Arts sets that didn't come in a box) from a couple of large binders into the Avery Elle pockets a couple of months ago. I really like them and it's been a lot easier for me to find my stamps with this storage method.

I was really worried they were going to be too thin and fragile to hold up to all my furious flipping, but they aren't. In fact, I've shoved a few large sets in them that didn't quite fit and the material held up just fine. But that is the one drawback with them...I have a lot of 4x8 sets as well as a couple of 6x8 and 8x8 sets and you have to decide how you're going to divide them up. In most cases, I chose to just cut up the sets on the sheet so I could keep them on the original plastic they came on, but I know some people move them to a new sheet of acetate entirely or just let them stick out the top of the pocket. My method isn't pretty, but it keeps them all together in the same pouch.

My favorite part is that I can store any matching dies I have on the backside of the pocket with their stamps so they're always right there when I need them. I moved my framelit sets into the pockets too and just left them on their original cardboard backing after trimming it a bit to fit inside.

I'm guessing you've seen Jennifer McGuire's videos on the pockets? The fridge bin she uses to put all of them in (and links up to on amazon) can be purchased at Bed Bath and Beyond with a 20% off coupon if you like that idea too. They may sell them at Walmart or Target too...I just don't know for sure. They do fit perfectly in these and I really like mine. All that's left for me to do now is make some pretty dividers on my Cameo so I can organize my stamps by theme! Good luck with your decision!

AnnieWills,
Thank you for your quick response. I am very excited to try this way for my stamp organization. Thank you also for telling me about Jennifer McGuire's video. No I had not seen it, but that along with your recommendation made me go ahead and order 6 packs. Cant wait to get them so I can start playing.
Thanks again,
CK

Oh good...so glad I could be of help! I think you'll be pretty happy with your decision.

fionna51 08-13-2013 06:22 AM

I've seen Jennifer's videos too...I LOVE them! Of course I did something similar before she ever did!

Anyway, if you haven't seen the videos, here's the links:

Hi Fionna51,

So, can you tell me what you did for your stamp storage. I am in need of some serious downsizing and creative stamp storage.

Thanks,
CK1

Here's some pics from my gallery.

I have a cabinet that houses 72 of these Sterilite drawers from the white cabinets you buy at Walmart or the like. So I'm limited to making my storage work with what I have.

Recently I broke up my sets and reorganized the drawers and that's what these pics are from. You don't have to break up sets if you don't want to, but I did reduce the space they took up by doing it.

I have a laminated card to put the stamps on, an index card that I stamp the images on that matches the placement of the stamps on the laminated card, and both are inserted into the bottom portion of a regular (for 8.5 x 11 paper) page protector that I cut down to 6 inches tall. I have my pouches laying down in my drawers but they could just as easily be stood up in a box or drawer so that they could be flipped through...like on Jennifer's videos.

I know that you could also use 8.5 x 5.5 page protectors and have them open at the top, but those are harder to find and more expensive. That's why I went this way.

Hope that helps

I like the way you did your stamp storage. I ordered the pockets before I saw your post, but...It's all good anyway.
One question, I bought a Crofton Laminator with the laminating sheets, how would I know if they are safe for the stamps? I have never used a laminator so if you have any tips, please please let me know.

thanks,
CK1

I am so glad I found this thread. I stopped by Office Depot yesterday and bought 2 packages of the large pockets (5 x 8) and one package of the small ones (4 x 6). They work great, I was even able to get to sets of stamps them. I placed a piece of white paper in them and then put a stamp set on each side. I went on line to order the Avery Elle ones, since they are a much better deal price wise, but they are out of stock until the middle of September. Now to find the tray to store them in.

sherry107 08-24-2013 05:41 PM

I am loving the Elle pockets-you can just store so many more than with the cd holders! Too bad they are so hard to get! Good luck!

mobrien207 08-25-2013 08:46 AM

Can the Avery Elle pockets be used in a 3-ring binder?
TIA,
mob

ashjoy 08-29-2013 03:29 AM

Betty can you link the pockets you bought? Our store dies not have them.

ashjoy 08-29-2013 04:09 AM

I heart papers has them in stock. Just ordered this morning.

dillyb5 08-29-2013 10:46 AM

Just ordered from StampMania, they are back in stock

texasyaya 08-29-2013 05:22 PM

Joyce sorry I don't know how to link things, but I can give you the item number.
Office Depot 4x6 clear pocket item #180-759, the 5x8 pocket is item #181-004.
I'm now off to see if I can order the other on line, since these are pricey.

You would need to punch the holes and that would use up a little room you might need for stamps.

I ordered the Avery Elle pockets from iheartpaper so them might be here this week.

Avery Elle Pocket Sleeves

I just moved all my stamp sets to these, love them. They take up less space then the DVD and cd cases I use to use and have for sale. I am now categorizing the sets so I can label them.

stampinwizard 09-02-2013 09:00 PM

I just posted a comment on this but it went to the bottom of the comments, need to learn how to do this better, lol!

arlenevita 09-03-2013 04:43 PM

Wow! Is iheartpaper ever fast! My Avery Elle pockets (and two stamps sets and matching dies :D ) arrived in the mail today!

ashjoy 09-04-2013 06:14 AM

Mine came yesterday as well. The are fast. Kudos to I heart paper!

ashjoy 09-05-2013 09:15 AM

50 was not enough, but now I have a nice start and can more easily house my stamps and dies. Will be ordering more today!

connie leone 10-11-2013 04:03 AM

For any of you stampers that are using these, have you use used them with your stamps that you have un mounted from wooden blocks? What did you put your stamps on? What did you use to to adhere the stamps? (double sided tape I'm guessing?) Would really like to use this for storing my stamps definitely affordable!

Thanks for the suggestions!

fionna51 10-11-2013 04:34 AM

Connie...
I posted pics of my storage up in post 7. The rubber is on EZMount, which clings to the cards I made. They are just pieces of white cardstock laminated with Royal Sovereign laminating film from Sams. And, yes, I confirmed the lack of acetate in the laminating film.

If you are wanting to use bare rubber, then Sue (gregzgurl) is the one to answer your questions. Her system is similar to mine except for that. I think she uses a two-way glue on the back of her rubber for mounting.

You want to pitch in, Sue?

connie leone 10-11-2013 04:50 AM

Diane, thanks so much! You are the best!! I currently have my stamps on laminated card stock and I use double sided tape to adhere my bare rubber stamps on. I guess I was maybe trying to figure out a simpler way to do this without having to stamp all the images again, etc. I store them in the 6X6 CTMH paper/stamp envelopes! I like the idea of the Avery Elle pockets as they are clear, and take up less room. Do you know of any that are 6X6? maybe I could just go that route instead?

Thanks again for the quick reply,
Connie

arlenevita 10-11-2013 06:20 PM

For bare rubber use Sailor 2-in-1 glue in the wide marker. That's what Sue/Gregzgirl uses so I bought some at a recent stamp show and it works great. have not had a chance to put my clear stamps in my Avery Elle pockets, yet...busy making swaps for gatherings each month and tomorrow some of us are making tons of Christmas cards for the troops for From Our Hearts so I've been prepping for that. The pockets feel nice and I will be cutting some 110 lb. index cardstock to put inside the pockets for stability.

connie leone 10-12-2013 04:29 AM

@ Arlene, Are you laminating the card stock that you are using for the index that is going into the pocket? Most of all my SU stamps are unmounted to the bare rubber.

Thanks for your input & have a great time stamping this week-end!

sherry107 10-15-2013 02:04 AM

I LOVE this method for my stamps. I used Aileen's Tac it Over from Mikes on the back of my stamps. (Quite a few threads here about that) And also use clear overlay film (DURA-LAR -the acetate alternative) from the Art Dept at Mikes. Kind of pricey $15 for 25 sheets but you can get two out of each-plus have been getting the pads with 50% off!

No, for now I am just putting my clear stamps in the Avery Elle pockets and keeping the acetate sheets that come with the stamps. Bare rubber with Sailor glue and cling stamps go into SU! DVD cases. I'm all over on stamp storage. wish I had the $$$ to buy SU! boxes for all my wood mounted stamps (too much work to unmount those for now).

connie leone 10-15-2013 04:41 AM

Thanks Arlene! I'm with you... All over the place with stamp storage, and wishing I had the $$$ to purchase the SU dvd cases. I think that I will purchase them little by little! Really do like the Avery Elle storage pockets though. .

fionna51 10-15-2013 05:35 AM

I really like the Avery Elle pockets too. But at the current time, with the furniture unit for my stamping (which is wonderful, by the way), they don't fit in my drawers. That's why I went the way I did.

And Connie, I am not aware of any square storage pockets except the CTMH ones. If you really like them then I wouldn't change. They're clear too...and I assume that you have already stamped an index card for each one. You say you use bare rubber and DS tape and store on a laminated card. If you switch to Avery Elle, you would basically be changing size of the folder to a larger one, and saving the space that the snap takes up in your storage.

Here's some interesting storage ideas for the CTMH folders...

Isn't That Sweet?!: Show Us Your Craft Room! (6th picture down)
A Bit of It All for Craftin': Stamp Storage

Now, I have to admit that I don't like the pouches with the snaps. I got rid of all my SU pouches like that from the dies I've bought. They take up a lot of room. So for that reason alone, I would like the Avery Elle storage envelopes. But I'm with you on re-stamping index cards!

ETA If I was in your shoes, with multiple types of storage, and wanted uniformity...here would be my facts for deliberation...
Space . Avery Elle will use the least space per pouch in thickness. No snap taking up room, No empty space in a DVD case. (BTW I changed my DVD collection to something similar and used 1/10 the space as the DVD cases. My DVDs look like Jennifer's stamps!)
Cost . You'll have to figure that yourself. It will depend on how you want your storage to work. I've split my sets. It takes up less room that way because more stamps fit on a card. Think about those sets with only a couple of images per set. That wastes a DVD case or storage envelope big time.
Convenience . What makes for the easiest finding of what you're looking for? Again, that is something to decide for yourself. How do you think when you're looking for something? "It's a flower" or "The set's name is..." or some other way.

connie leone 10-15-2013 06:35 AM

Good morning Diane! So sweet of you to take the time and chime in again on my dilemma! How about this... Come to Buffalo, to my craft room and lets figure this out!! Lol :-D The CTMH envelopes are large, do take a lot of room up too. I'm still considering the Avery Elle pockets! It would be alot of work to have to stamp everything again, but if I'm splitting up my sets, which I plan on, I might as well us a different storage. Just not sure how to adhere my plain rubber stamps on the laminated card stock. Going through some of my stamps, the stamps are coming off the double sided tape. Sailor glue was also recommended so I will look into that!

Thanks again, appreciate it!

connie leone 10-15-2013 02:09 PM

I just saw on FB that my LSS just got in a bunch of the Avery Elle stamps & envelopes!!! So with that being said I'm hoping to go there on Friday and buy a few packages and see how they work for me! :-D :-D

I've been using the 5x8 4mil ziploc bags for my clear stamps. I insert a white piece of cardstock into the bag and keep them on the clear sheet that they come with and they fit in the freezer bins perfectly and I store the bins in a cabinet. They are a little long but I just fold them over and use double stick removable tape. They extra length does come in handy for some of the larger sets. They are relatively inexpensive - 100 bags for $9 or $10 (.10 a bag can't go wrong with that)

For those of who have TGF stamps, how are you storing these? are you using the Avery Elle pouch and what about Hero Arts cling stamps.

YorkieMoma 04-06-2014 06:12 AM

Hey, did y'all know that Staples sells the Avery Elle stamp storage pockets (set of 25) for $7.99? I think you have to order online and then they have free "ship to your store"!

Cathy H 04-06-2014 12:00 PM

I did not know that - I love saving on shipping!
