One of my favorite design-saavy people is Candice Olson. You may know her from HGTV's Divine Design show! She is a genius when it comes to combining natural elements to create spaces that are uniquely warm and inviting. I believe we can definitely carry some of her principles over into card design. Her mantra is to expertly combine elements for contrast. Quote: "...an eclectic fusion of contrast; antique paired with modern, rustic with refined, minimal with adorned, mat set off by luster"." End Quote. She does this effortlessly, all the while keeping everything lusciously simple, functional, scaled, and beautifully textured! In any event everything she designs always leaves me thinking "WOW-the beauty of simple luxury!"
In her honor, this weeks inspiration site has a whole section dedicated to her at Surya's Home Decor Site. I personally decided to focus on Candice Olson's designs, but you can use any image at all at the Surya site (even if it's not by Candice---smiles)! There are many beautiful pieces of furniture, carpet, pillows, and lighting. More than enough to spark your very own 'divine design'! I don't have a guest hostess this week, so I'll be playing along with you quite a bit tomorrow. I'm working on a few designs I hope you'll like (good thing there's no time limit on the Inspiration Challenges! LOL).
Challenge Goals:
Don't be tempted to upload a card that you have made prior to this challenge, just because an image reminds you of it. Rather, take the challenge of allowing your creative juices to flow based on your impressions when you look through the images. Remember, it can just be the color palette or style that ignites your creativity. Whatever draws you to the designs, take the challenge of doing something uniquely inspired today.
Use the keyword: IC458 (no spaces or extra characters) when you upload your card, and make sure you put commas between your key words.
For those of you who say you get overwhelmed with having too many images to choose from, I've uploaded five of my favorites...so just stick with one (or all) of those for your inspiration. Click on the images below to see them bigger. Please let us know which photo served as your inspiration piece please.
How to Play ~ View the attached images. You may be inspired to recreate the pieces ~ but that isn't necessary ... get your inspiration from the colors, layout, style or 'theme'. Just enjoy wherever your inspired creative journey takes you. Remember, if you are inspired by the creation of another artist, please do not use print-outs of the art in your creation or directly copy their work. Make the inspiration piece your own. Don't worry ~ no card is 'wrong' and there is no time limit for uploading your card for the challenge. There are no rules, so let your creative juices run wild ~ be *inspired* and go get stamping!
Don't forget about No Upload Sunday - Let's give the gallery moderators a day off and not upload on Sunday (unless, of course, you are a Fan Club member - yet another reason to spend a little money on your favorite site). Also, remember to link to your SCS gallery on this thread. Thank you for joining me on this inspiration journey.
What an incredible website! Today, my eye seemed to trend toward the abstract, so I looked at the "modern" and "abstract" wall art - and there are so many inspiring designs and color combinations! I am stuck at work until 5:00 and I can't wait to get home and try some of these ideas. (I also just received a huge order of Stampin Up! stuff - I had a home party - and I can see lots of that stuff coming in handy for this challenge.) I'll be back later!

IC458 Tempted to Layer
I'll make sure to allow more time before I try this technique again! It needed plenty of drying time between each layer, and I had two mishaps.
Thanks, Audrie! It was great to be inspired by that rug to give the Layered Batik a go.
It took me all morning to get this card uploaded -- I had some computer problems (actually battery back-up problems) and had to take time out to fix them. I had to get down underneath my computer desk, on my back, to replace the dang thing! Anyway, disaster averted, and here's my card:

Thank you for choosing such an incredible inspiration site - I am going to have to go back and look some more - I was overwhelmed by the quality of art that I saw there.
