IC544 - The Beauty of the Single Layer Card {05-07-16}
This week our inspiration site comes from one of my own Pinterest Boards: The Beauty of Single Layer Cards. It’s a board that highlights just how much you can do with a simple card base, without adding any complex layers! It’s not as easy as it looks though. In fact, many say that ‘single layer’, or ‘minimalist’, CAS designs actually take a great deal of attention to detail, and design experience. I like the “fast” aspect of the technique though, because I want to send out a lot of unplanned, and non-holiday specific cards. Obviously, the perfect Guest Hostess for this challenge is our dear friend Susan Raihala from the famous "Simplicity" Blog, so she has joined in on the fun and will be providing her own Inspiration Genius cards as well! FYI: The funniest thing that ever happened to me in this regard, was that one of my YouTube subscribers let me know that they loved my single layer card designs because, quote: “…they help me to send more cards to my cousin in prison.” unquote. ☺ I must say that I had never thought of that advantage before, but I guess it’s true: whenever we are concerned about weight, or postage, or abstraction of ‘escape tools’, then single layer designs do come in handy (LOL). As you browse all the beautiful cards that I pinned, please don’t feel pressured into making a single layer card if you don’t want to….as long as you’re honestly ‘inspired’ by one of them, then ‘it’s all good’! If you do take the Bonus Challenge of creating a ‘single’ layer card design, please share any design tips in your description that might help newbies in that space.
If you are unfamiliar with how to grab the hyperlinks from a Pinterest Board, here is a helpful video:
Challenge Goals: Please don't be tempted to upload a card that you have made prior to this challenge, just because an image on the board reminds you of it - this is all about creating from an inspiration. :cool: So, please take the challenge of allowing your creative juices to flow based on the images you browse this week. Remember, it can just be the color palette or style that ignites your creativity. Whatever draws you to the designs, take the challenge of doing something uniquely inspired today.
Please remember that all inspiration links should be inspired by my The Beauty of Single Layer Cards Pinterest Board. Remember that your card might also end up on my Ongoing Inspiration Genius Board too, especially if it shows signs of extra deep inspiration! (smiles)
Use the keyword: IC544 (no spaces or extra characters) when you upload your card, and make sure you put commas between your key words.
For those of you who say you get overwhelmed with having too many images to choose from, or just don't subscribe to Pinterest, I've uploaded 10 of my favorites. So just stick with one (or all) of those for your inspiration. Click on the images below to see them bigger and to get their links on SCS. Don't forget to let us know which photo served as your inspiration piece please.
At the present moment, I don't know anyone in prison but I sure will when I get done spending hours on a single layer card. The one in prison will be me for doing away with my husband because he kept bothering me while I was struggling to make one single layer card. I'm going to hold you responsible, Audrie.

Super challenge Audrie. I just had to play since it was a CAS challenge today as I am still busy packing but I found one I could do quick. Thanks for the challenge!
I LOVE _LOVE _ LOVE CAS cards but usually work on White backgrounds so today I took my inspitation from the One Layer Kraft on Audrie's Pinterest Board. Here is my card:
Ok, so.....I am also sending cards to someone who is in prison and they have to be one layer cards and they can't have paint on them. I have tried for two weeks to get a single layer card created! I am sooooo very excited to see your challenge today. I have written a five-page letter but no card yet! I am thrilled to check out the board and get some cards created!
Welcome to Susan! I was going to browse her blog again for inspiration but just had not gotten there this week!
Awesome challenge today!!! Thanks, ladies!! Audrie, one of your cards jumped out at me, so I had to case it.....thank you for your endless inspiration! Mwaah!!!
I was so happy to see this challenge today! I just received some new stamps y'day and got to use one of the flowers. My Misti and Chameleon pens have opened up a whole new card making world for me. Here is my Spring Has Sprung

One of the pins on Audrie's site was of pounded Leaves. So that's the direction I took . . I wanted this to be a single layer card BUT I got SO MUCH bleed thru & warping (see results & description) that I was forced to mount it on another piece just to keep it somewhat flat.
Please Check out my card:
The gallery is more amazing than I could have ever expected! Every card design is FABULOUS! With some people stepping a bit out of their comfort zone with such expertise! I couldn't stop pinning your cards! WOW! I'm super impressed, and I learned so much from your techniques! You'll note I added some cards from today to our inspiration board too!

Wonderful beautiful amazing board Audrie!! I sat down to make a Mothers Day card, had a completely different stamp and several dies on my desk when I decided to check your challenge today - and I'm so glad I did!! Here's my card: { Happy Mother’s Day }
Hello Audrie! Thank you for the challenge. I don't really care for one layer cards but I wanted to do the challenge today!! I found some inspiration for my card from your board that I think will be acceptable.

I have to admit that one layer cards are somewhat difficult, but glad to have wonderful and gorgeous samples for inspiration. Thank you Audrie, Susan, Birgit, and all others who create one layer cards so beautifully and effortlessly (IMHO). That is too funny, Anne! I had the same problem tonight making my card!

Thanks for the inspiration, Audrie! You featured many of the CAS card designer's whose blogs I follow so that was a treat. There are so many fabulous CAS stylists out there.
