Thank you for your post, Gail. It prompted me to go read those letters. They are indeed an inspiration. It is amazing how something so simple as paper and ink can brighten someone's day enough for them to reach out to a stranger to say "thank you."

I've lost three grandparents to cancer, one of them to breast cancer. My dad is a cancer survivor. I had a cancer scare, thankfully it was benign. And a couple years ago I did hospice care for a woman who lost her battle with cancer. I have seen first hand the fear, emotional exhaustion, sleepless nights, physical pain and financial toll that cancer (what my dad refers to only as "The Big C") has on the patient and those who love them. I'm excited to think that I could make a card that might lift their spirits and give them a moment of distraction.

Y'all. I am trying to find something in my craft room. You know, that I used a couple of days ago. And in digging around I keep finding things that are project leftovers from Hope You Can Cling To 2014. So I officially clean my craft room less than once a year. (Don't think for a second it's getting a good cleaning anytime in the next couple of weeks. Not unless I lose my car keys in there or something. I have too much crafting to do!)

I'm getting ready for a grocery shopping trip today. I want the house to be packed with food so I have time to stamp. Cleaning happened yesterday and will continue today...

Hellooooooooooo ladies......

It's already that time again, I can't believe it. So excited. I've been making cards but hadn't time to really post them in the gallery, been so busy throughout the summer. Looking forward to joining the gang & creating cards for a wonderful cause. I'm going to try & reach my goal of 100 again as well.

DH always told people we lived in the shadow of the big blue crane...don't miss all the shipyard noise and traffic! It is so much darker here in rural IN too. I worked at the old Hampton General Hospital for a few years before the kids started coming. I like where we're living now, but I still miss VA.

I remember hearing the shift whistle at the shipyard. And when i took Driver's Ed (in the late 1970s) I had "On the Road" training during Shipyard Traffic at 4 PM. That taught me a lot about the traffic.

I used to be able to see a lot of stars at night - it was darker here. But now with so many city lights, you can't see much.
About 10 years ago we lost power for 10 days due to a storm. That was the last time I saw a dark, starry sky here.

I'm very new here, and this is the first time I've heard of this campaign. Is it all about breast cancer, or are other cancers included? Don't know if it matters really, but I'm curious. (My counselor was treated at MD Anderson a few years ago, though not for breast cancer.) Do the cards have to be a certain "cancer-related" theme, or are they just "regular" cards? I would appreciate any advice anyone can offer. Hope these aren't stupid questions. Looking forward to participating!

there are no stupid questions!

This is my third year, it's something I look forward to all year long.
The challenges are not typically specific to any type of cancer, with the exception of the sometimes request for the color pink. (official BCA color)
There are over 30 challenges, each interpreted however the artist flows creatively.
You can take a look at previous years galleries to get a feel of what the HYCCT event produces. Here's a link to last years gallery HYCCT2014

I don't think you have to be a fan club member to participate in this challenge. If I'm wrong, please correct me. I am a fan club member anyway, and recommend it to help support the site!

Oh no! You don't need to be a Fan Club member to participate in HYCCT.

My renewal is always due at the start of HYCCT, it's just part of my ritual for this event. Sorry for the confusion!

BCRibbon HYCCT Rituals?

speaking of rituals, besides prepping card bases, what rituals do you guys have during HYCCT?
  • I pay my SCS Fan Club membership (it's due Oct 1st for me)
  • I wear my BCA shirts while I create
  • I stock up on Honey Crisp Apples and Almond butter
  • I get a Juice It Up's "Pitaya Sunset" smoothie. Its pink & they usually support BCA with that drink throughout the month as well.
  • I tell everyone I meet about the event.
  • I plan & cook easy meals all month long.

I cut card bases, color some images, create some backgrounds, and find some pink stuff. Pink is not a favorite color here, so I grab some this time if year.

I don't have any rituals yet b/c I've only done it one year, last year. And well, this year…I'm having a baby soon so there goes rituals for this year…and no, I do NOT want to have a baby every October thankyouverymuch LOL!! But I remember last year hearing of different rituals that others did and it sounded comforting and fun. But alas, this year likely won't be the year to start anything to serious!!! Just looking forward to doing what I can!
