I Always look at the sample cards given. One stamper wrote a while back, "Looking at the gallery of cards before creating your own, clogs the brain and stymies the imagination." She also stated she'd wish she had not viewed all the cards that particular day because she fell in love with one of them and couldn't get her mind to think otherwise.
For some of the challenges, it really helps to see what others have created.

It's always interesting to hear everyone's take on the creative process. I tend not to look, but if I'm having trouble visualizing something I do. It's not a hard and fast rule with me. It cracks me up when I start with a very distinct vision and end up with something completely different. Sometimes I go back later and fulfill the initial idea, but I don't always have time for that. I love the sketch challenges-it never ceases to amaze me how very different the cards can look even though they've used the same layout. I always print the sketch and physically turn it around to see what it looks like in different orientations. I'm impressed with the gallery for these challenges....lots of beautiful cards.

I sure understand how that "clogging" and "stymying" can happen. But my imagination is usually stimulated by looking at other cards.

Bought her the winter boots I'd seen at SAMS-didn't want to spend that much $$ without her trying them on. At the shoe store we also found a pair of running shoes on sale and a pair of cute rain boots on clearance. Got a nice pair of faux Chucks for my youngest DS (silly clerk left the anti-theft device on them and my son, not knowing what it was, tried to pry it off.... shoe laces and my son now dyed green!) and a pair of lightweight Skechers for DH to wear when he coaches swimming. I found a few goodies at the craft stores for me....of course!

I read the challenge in the morning and then think about it all day, until I can get into my card room! Then, when I start, I at least have an idea and not starting cold! Thanks to all the hostesses for what you are doing for us for this WONDERFUL month! - - In response to Greywolf. I do NOT look at the other cards first - not until I get caught up and actually have time to enjoy!

I can't tell you how many times I've read the challenge and thought about it a while then gone down to make my card. When I get ready to upload I realize I've goofed up a color or part of the sketch etc. My two minute memory gets me every time!
I do often read the challenges first thing in the morning, but I've learned the hard way to write them down or print off the sketch otherwise I mess up something!

Finished up my "favorites" post so I'm heading to bed now that ND has lost. I don't care about sports, but DH fell asleep on the couch and I knew he'd want to know the score when he woke so I paid attention.

I look at the samples in the original challenge post and then try not to look much further until I've completed my card. I'm so afraid that I will inadvertently copy someone else's work! As a matter of fact, I was so worried about that during my first HYCCT that I pm'd Lydia to ask her about it!

So far no one has mentioned my inspiration technique....although it is not intentional. I usually look at the challenges late at night and come up with ideas while I am trying to sleep.
I attribute some of my weirder cards to lack of sleep, and Dolly the insomniac dog.

Hmm... maybe I'll try that! I've made all of my cards except for one - and I have been stumped by that one! Maybe I'll dream about it tonight and after I come home from work tomorrow I'll get that one made.

I tend to just read the challenge description and look at the samples provided in that first post and then let it "set" in my mind! For HYCCT, I love checking in first thing, so I can let the idea settle in my head while I get ready for the day!

Yesterday I saw a card almost exactly like one I had made (different images of course) but I'm sure neither of us saw each other's!! Crazy!

Hey hey all! Spending the soggy Sunday stamping and cardmaking. Trying to get ahead on the challenges this week and catching up on two that I didn't get a chance to squeeze in. Boy, last week was all kinds of crazy and no sleep time either. Hoping this week is much more manageable for me. Yipes!

Sounds like the crazy week I had last week. And we have been rainy, and today not as much rain but a lot of wind!! I've stayed in working on cards.

No stamping -- but I did get to go to the Bills/Giants game in Buffalo today - and what a gorgeous day! Sun, trees changing, crazy fans everywhere -- so fun! I hope you all had a great weekend. Next week I go to Italy! Not a great month for stamping but a pretty awesome month to be alive

40 weeks. I think you are considered full term at 38 weeks because the lungs are fully developed by then, but your due date is 40 weeks.

I often let ideas gel all day long too, but I don't have an insomniac dog to help.

Sundays are always busy days for us, but this one was extra full. We had our normal Sunday School and church followed by participation in our town's Life Chain and then our church's turn doing the services at our local nursing home. My son's fiancee came over in the afternoon and then we had our small group meeting this evening. I had a chance to talk to my dad tonight. He sounds like he's doing well. He spent part of the weekend visiting with my mom's two brothers who were unable to come to the funeral due to their own ill health. He said it was hard but good. It was good to hear his voice and know that he's doing so well.

Yep, 40 weeks, though with my other three I always went over and had to be induced. Dr. will not let me go over with this one b/c of the Gestational Diabetes (even though it's all been very managed!), so I'll likely be induced next week sometime!!! That will be different being early!

Good Monday morning to Everyone! What a great day it is, the sun is out...it's been raining for 10 days! This is my DH's and my 41st anniversary and this morning he sent me the words to Our Song when we were dating. It meant so much to me that I had to listen on youtube. I sat at the computer and just cried! Sweet memories....If you care to listen, here is the link. Chicago-Color My World:

Good morning all. Pooch is doing his morning whine and groan until I take him for his walk. He's even taken to laying his head onto the keyboard when I'm trying to type. So I guess I'm heading out and I'll come back and do some more commenting later.

Had a rough start to my morning with DD2. We butt heads a lot and had a falling out again this morning (she is 12). I believe we are both hormonally charged, but she does know how to press my buttons. Argh. So I'm trying to overcome the major energy drain from that emotional outbreak this morning.

DD3 and I head to story time soon too, so not sure if I can crank out my card before that or not. So hard to get going after balling your eyes out!

And there is no solar power so far this morning….that's not helping!!

Morning!!! Wow! Rebekah! Seems like we just found out you were going to have a baby and now it's almost time!!! Probably doesn't seem as quick to you.

Roberta, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! Sweet song!!! 41! That's so awesome!!!!

I don't remember if Steve and I have a song. I will have to ask him, he will remember if we do! We experienced two losses that were difficult and we do have a special song that just seemed meant for that season. Steve had just learned to play it on the guitar and then it was played a lot on the radio and I even walked into church and it was playing (never heard it before or after at church). I still treasure that song.

I hope everyone has fun with Paula's fabulous challenge today! I can't wait to see what everyone creates!!
