Now I understand. That is great news for the people who can't post on a daily basis! For some reason, I thought the winners were chosen at random from those trivia posters. Silly me. I was here for the 2011 HYCCT challenge (not '12, '13, '14) and don't remember the trivia challenge. But then, that was ages ago. I never knew how the winners were chosen.

Hotwheels, I've been reading your posts and know that this has been a long and difficult time for you and your mom. I wish you and your mom strength and peace as you deal with this terrible situation.

So I cleaned up my studio and started knitting a baby blanket for my daughter's friend who is expecting a boy on Christmas Day. She lives north of NYC so I have doubled the yarn to make it heavy, but I had to take a break and make a few Xmas cards : ~ )......really miss being creative.

Brenda, I cleaned my desk yesterday completely for the first time in 2-1/2 months. It is blissful... a few days rest between Holiday Blitz and working on CHA board samples. Deep breathing over here! Yesterday I even colored in a coloring book for no reason at all!

I enjoyed (saying that word lightly) a Stressful football game between my Patriots and the Giants! It actually felt like Super Bowl 49 all over again, and one of those wins was painful enough! We are now 9-0, not bad, but with Julian Edelman out with a broken foot, that takes the wind out of my sails! We shall see what happens next....

I still haven't been able to really clean my craft room. My kids and husband are off all next week. I think we're going to paint a room or two during that time, but I'm hoping to clean and get back to creating.

I got to finish the lastest Louise Penny book that I finally got on hold from the library. I'm also trying to finish a few Thanksgiving cards, having a time trying to get them the way I want! So I take breaks to stack wood for the woodstove and rake leaves.

I'm getting ready for the prize chat thread. Just got back from grocery shopping, and will soon go out for lunch with DH and Mom. The rest of the day home. Great news (other than the Patriots win), my DGD has a pastry internship okayed by her college for next semester. she'll be making fancy pastries, and living with us!! Woo-hoo. The place is closer to us than her house, so we will benefit from her internship!!!! WOW and Yowza!

Got the latest Grisham, Connelly, and Lee Child from the library. Only on 1 week loan, so I am reading fast!!

Just got back from a train trip to Portland, Oregon to see a dear friend, and didn't make a card for several days. Working on quilts for the family for Christmas, and sorting the fabric I can donate to our local fabric recycle shop for tomorrow. May do a card later today

Wow, you ARE a fast reader! I read well but I tend to be a very slow reader, especially when it comes to fiction. Your taste in authors is similar to mine. I even have an autographed Lee Child and several autographed Michael Connelly books on my shelf, waiting to be read.

I've not read any Louise Penny but I know the name. Does she write hard edged stuff, like Grisham, Connelly and Child? Or is her writing more along the lines of Donna Andrews or Janet Evanovich?

Default Louise Penny

I haven't read Donna Andrews or Janet Evanovich but I do read Michael Connelly and Lee Child. Louise Penny's books would be worth reading whether there was a murder involved or not and I don't particularly like modern fiction. Her character and plot developement are so well done. There is also some art or music involved in each novel and they are set in Canada. Give her a try.

There's not a lot of gore or sex if that's what you mean by hard edged. It's clean, suspenseful and I so agree about her characters and plots.

Clean is good. Suspenseful is even better.

When I think hard edged or dark, I think "thriller" or "suspense" novels, like those written by Michael Connelly, Dean Koontz, Paul Levine, John Sanford, Blake Crouch, Michael Critchdon. As opposed to light-hearted cozy mysteries by authors such as Victoria Laurie, Joanne Fluke, Donna Andrews, and Kate Collins, which usually have the murder off stage and often, though not always, has a silly theme like knitting, baking, or flowers.

I like both genres. Which one I read depends on my mood, though I prefer the hard edge stuff to be high on suspense and low on foul language. I'm currently working on my first cozy mystery manuscript. No knitting, baking or flowers -- just a few dogs and cats.

Hi Everyone,

i got an email from a patient at MD Anderson!! She said she wrote to several people but wished she could write to everyone who made cards, but some cards only have a name on the back and not an email address or website. She said I could share her email here =) Makes to tear up every time I read her email. I have never gotten feedback like this before. I emailed her back and she sent another email. So here are two messages.

Hi, I don't really know you and you don't really know me. In fact, I never heard of you or your website until about an hour ago. I found it stamped on the back of a card that you must have created and then donated to the hospital (MD Anderson Cancer Center in Texas). The volunteer department here has been giving out some of the most beautiful one-of-a-kind cards to us patients and I kept wishing I could thank the people who make these cards and donate them. I was really excited to find your stamp on the back because now I can finally thank someone who is at the producing end of the cards. I am 28 years old and have been fighting leukemia for 5 years now. I had a bone marrow transplant in June 2015 and I'm slowly getting better. Looking through the choices and choosing a card is one of the highlights of my day and gives me a lovely way to stay in touch with friends and family back home. (I'm from NY and have been here in Texas for 6 months now). Thank you so very much for your generosity of time, energy, creativity, thought and materials in making and donating these cards. They mean a lot to me, and I'm sure other patients as well. Thanks again, Yehudis.

This second email I left out some things since we chatted about other things too. =) Im not sure how to answer the question about getting started in card making. There is just so much stuff out there! I will direct her to SplitCoastStampers though =)

I wish I knew how to make such beautiful cards like you do. How did you learn how to do it? I have lots of free time on my hands now that I can't work and I'm not home around friends and family, so I wish I knew how to make these cards if for no other reason than to keep busy. Everyone I send these cards to is blown away by how professional yet homemade they look. The creativity and precision is breathtaking!

Oh, and feel free to share my email with whoever you'd like. I sent an email to anyone whose names/contact info I found stamped on back of cards IF I was able to find a way to contact them on the internet. So far I reached out to 8 people and heard back from 3; I still don't know if the others were the wrong person or if they just decided not to respond. I've been at MD Anderson long enough that I have gone through quite a number of cards already. Some cards just have names listed but no contact info. I wish I could find a way to thank every single card-maker individually and I will continue to try and reach out to every card-maker whose card I use,

I wish I could find a way to thank every single card-maker individually and I will continue to try and reach out to every card-maker whose card I use,
She contacted me as well. I'm actually pretty close to MD Anderson. I wonder if I could put together a kit to take to her so she could make some cards? I don't know what I'd put in it, but I could try! Or maybe buy a kit for her? Is there a company who has a complete one that just needs adhesive?

I know Heartfelt Creations has kits just need glue and ink. If you want to take up a collection I would be happy to send some images or some die cuts. Send me an IM and I can send you some.

That actually didn't work for me! I think PayPal's online postage fields may be smaller, but I tried it every which way until Lydia gave me an approach that worked. I never had a problem before, but I have always sent to residential addresses. Felt good to mail them anyway!

Sonia,

Thank you for sharing your patients letter. How touching. Makes it all worthwhile.
