Northeast Ohio Shoebox Swap!!
This will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2006 beginning at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Smithville, Ohio. The church address is 777 S. Summit St., Smithville, OH 44677 if you want to mapquest it.
For this swap, I would like to request that your swap be something a little more than "just a card." I recently attended a swap, and was disappointed in some of the projects that were just too simple, and plain. If you'd like to do a card, please make it something with a good bit of layering or embellishments or other great details. Or maybe a great technique like crayon resist, or wax paper, or a spinner card or something. Otherwise, anything goes! Paper purses, boxes, candles, notepad holders, beaded pens...get those imaginations rolling! You should bring your own adhesive and scissors.
There is no charge for the swap, as this is being held at my church. (The community room in my town was $85.00 which I felt was too much.) There is a kitchen available, and I'd like to ask everyone to bring a munchie/snack to share. I'll provide coffee and some punch and/or pop to drink, and I'll also provide napkins, cups, etc. Remember, every guest needs to bring a project for the swap. (If you have a friend that wants to come at the last minute, they will need to bring a project too, and hopefully others will have brought a few extra...just in case!) Please RSVP by Saturday, February 4th to me, so that I can let everyone know how many are attending and everyone will have 2 weeks to plan their project and have the needed supplies.
My teenage daughter and her friend are available for babysitting (a little $$ for that would be appreciated by the girls) so if you can't come because you need a babysitter, then bring the kids along. We have a really nice nursery at our church with TV and DVD there, too.
Any questions, please just PM me! I'm looking forward to meeting some other SCS members and having a great time!!!
I live in the tiny town of Marshallville, Ohio which is in Northeastern Wayne County. Not far from Cleveland at all, and just a hop and a skip from Akron/Canton. Easy to get to and not a horrible drive from points south, either. I just attended a really fun shoebox swap with some friends in Michigan, and am entertaining the idea of doing something here at home. We have an awesome community room at our park. I don't know what the cost to rent it is, but hopefully it's not much, and each person may only have to contribute $5-10 depending on how many attend. (More than that and I would look for somewhere else to have it!) Is anyone out there interested in doing this too? Definetely after the holidays...maybe around the first week of February, even? I would plan it for a Saturday or Sunday, depending on my daughter's JO Volleyball schedule. Please respond to this thread and/or PM so I can get an idea of the interest out there! Thanks!!!

Tammy ~
I'm interested and I'm sure my upline (Papercuties) would be interested as well. About a year ago there was some interest in an Ohio SCS get together but I think it was just overwhelming to the planners trying to coordinate a central location for everyone to meet. So maybe a NE Ohio gathering might actually be doable and a little less of an undertaking IMO.
I'm going to the Milwaukee Regionals the weekend of Feb 17th but other than that February sounds good.
Any interested NE Ohio gals out there??????!!!!!!

Thanks for the bump Michelle! I managed to make one call this past week, and the place I wanted to have this is $85.00! IMHO too much!!! I need to check with my church and see about having it there, instead! Anyone else interested?

It depends on the starting time. I work unitl 12:30 on Saturdays. So I couldn't make it before 2pm to Marshalville.
But either Sunday is fine. Or either Saturday if it is after 2pm

That sounds good Tammy! I hope you don't mind I copied your sig (the swap part). I figured we probably jump around different threads, so maybe get more people a chance to see it.

No problem at all!!! I'm going to try to set a goal of commenting on as many cards in the gallery as I can every day so it gets noticed, too! Thanks for thinking to add it to your signature, too! Great idea!
Where do you live? Will it take you long to get to Smithville?

I live in Wadsworth. I can't remember how long it takes to get to Smithville from here. I think it's in the neighborhood of 45 minutes. It's been a long time since I've been there.
Good idea on commenting, I'll do that, too.

45 minutes? No! My boss lives in Wadsworth and I'll bet it's only a half hour for her to get to Wooster. I love the Wal-Mart in Wadsworth! Come there all the time! Maybe we've passed in an aisle and didn't even know it! I should wear my SCS t-shirt next time!!

Oh that's good. I couldn't quite remember. 30 mins better than 45 for sure. Could be we passed in Wal-Mart! Although, I don't shop there very much, just pop in for things every now and then. I was in there last weekend though buying another paper cutter! I had left mine at work in Medina and didn't want to go the whole weekend with out one! I do most of my Grocery shopping at Sams Club in Montrose and Buehlers in Wadsworth.

SORRY! Have to change the date!
Sorry folks...just got my daughters JO Volleyball schedule today and she has a tournament that weekend that's near my family, so we'll be gone all weekend. I'm going to have to change this to Saturday, February 18th instead! Same time...same place! Sorry for any inconvenience!

Feb swap
I live in Medina and love to go to Toyrifix in Smithville at the Barn Restaurant!! I will check my calendar and see if Feb. 18th is open. This sounds like a lot of fun and is close by. It usually takes me about 30-35 minutes from Medina. Thanks!

Oh, please don't let that stop you!!! I think I'm just being a little anal about it, because the last swap I went to, two of the ladies had already done all the stamping, and all we did was glue the cards together!!! I'd love it if you'll consider coming!!
BTW, a bump is just a way of moving the thread up in the listing, so that it gets more exposure. Each time someone posts to the thread it moves up the list, so if it hasn't had any posts in awhile, then you "bump" it to get it moving again.
Please don't let my anal tendencies intimidate you, and consider coming to the swap!!!

Yes, Mary Jo, please come see me! I'm just not allowed to say Stampin Up in our store! It's hard, but I understand from the business side.
Tammy, this is my first swap, so do all the materials have to be Stampin Up or can you mix and match. Also, just so I understand(say it slowly for the blonde), I make up one item and then bring enough materials say for 10 other people? Thanks, I just want to make sure I know what I'm doing. I guess if I forget something I'm only 10 minutes away from the church.

No, this is not a Stampin' Up exclusive swap...anything goes! And you've got it right...you create something, make a sample, then bring enough supplies for everyone in attendance to re-create it. Everyone should bring their own adhesive, and having your own scissors to carry from project to project might be helpful. If your own project requires a special adhesive, though you should provide it for everyone to use. The one that I went to last month, I used the gel glue from SU to adhere a ribbon across the front, so I had the glue there for everyone to use, but carried my own mono-adhesive from project to project.
Ann, I was at Toyrifix on Friday afternoon, and was going to leave a note that said "Hi Ann! happystampertammy was here!" but thought the girls working then would think I was nuts!

Thanks for letting me know about the supplies. Gotta start thinking now...that is after my Christmas cards are done

Please send me a PM if you are definetely planning on coming to the swap! I'm reading back through the posts and a lot of people have said "sounds like fun" or are planning to come if they can, that I'm not sure who is "for sure" or not! Just let me know...but no rush!
If I don't get a chance before Sunday...
Merry Christmas everyone!!!

I would love to attend a local swap like this. And if it is anywhere close to Smithville, I'll have to stop at the Barn and Toyrifix! I will let you know for sure soon if I will be able to make it.
Do we only bring one project to swap?
