Hey, has anyone else NOT received their Christmas swaps yet? I was pretty sure I sent a priority stamp with mine, but I STILL don't have them. When did they get mailed anyway? Every day I come out of the post office pouting cuz they still aren't here! LOL!
How could you not have them? Where are you again? I know a couple people didn't send priority, but I didn't keep track. Everyone's went out Weds evening (after the PO closed) for priority (I dropped them at the grocery store PO) or Thurs a.m. for those needing to pay postage.

Rhonda,
Did you make your soup? I need a really good recipe for beer cheese soup. Our little restaurant in town that had this every day closed, so we don't have a place to get it anymore...it was great to run by there on the way home and pick up some "to go" in the winter for a nice, hot and quick meal! Will you share yours if you can? Thanks so much, my DH will be forever grateful!
Ooohhh, and that would be brownie points for me=more SU goodies!!!

Angie, I got mine off the internet, but modified it a lot......hmmmm...What kind do you like? We like ours fairly smooth and this one called for broccoli cauliflower and carrots.....well, I guess I'll write it up the way I did it:

Boil one medium grated carrot in about 1-1/2 cups of water (I also cut the grates/strings so they would just be tiny pieces.)

Melt one stick of butter and make a roux by adding 1/2 cup of flour 1 tsp. of salt and 1/2 tablespoon of dry mustard. Then I added 1/2-3/4 cup of tiny chopped onion. Cook over low heat until smooth (the onions won't be smooth ). Add 3 cups of milk one at a time thickening each time (not sure that makes sense?) Add some Worcestershire sauce to taste-- approx. 1/2-1-1/2 tablespoon.

This is from the original recipe--heat until mixture coats the spoon. I don't know what that means, but when it was thickened, I added 2 cups of sharp cheddar and 2 cups of mild cheddar (grated). Heat and stir until melted. Then it called for 1/2 cup of beer....I added a full cup -you might need to adjust that to taste? (that's only 8 ounces). At this point it was very thick, so I added 2 cups of water (the carrots and all the water I boiled the carrots in and a bit more water) and 2 chicken bouillon cubes. (Yours might not be too thick at that point so be careful) I knew I couldn't let it simmer for 15 minutes as thick as it was....it needed the chicken bouillon both for flavor and saltiness. I tasted it a couple times and added some seasoning (like season salt without the salt). We served it with seasoned croutons which added some more needed seasoning.

It is not my favorite one I've ever eaten, but it is so much better than Emeril's or any of the others I've found on the internet. It was from a cheese company linked on Food TV. HTH!

Rhonda,
Thanks so much for sharing. We like ours smooth as well (except for the onions of course) so this sounds like it will work. I will try it out later in the week and let you know. My DH says thanks as well!!!

When does the bad news stop coming?

I just got an email from a friend. Her husband had melanoma - one small spot on his hip about 2 years ago. Well, he hasn't been feeling well. They went to the ER - his liver is filled with cancerous nodules. He had just gotten a clean bill of health in September. What an insidious disease. My heart is breaking for them. Please add his name, Jim, to your prayer lists. Thanks.

Hi all, just checking it to say the Christmas swap cards were fantastic! I love them and am so glad to have them for my display when my clubbers come in a couple of weeks. I've been so busy preparing for my giftables class and my Christmas Stamp-a-lot that I haven't had a whole lot of time for much else. I've also been working more than I intended to and hope to cut back soon. I placed a $400 order last night for supplies for my upcoming classes and almost $200 of that order is on the backorder list which is nuts. I paid for 2 day shipping just because when the stuff comes off b/o it will get to me quickly. I also make a trip to Michael's yesterday (one a little further from me) to find the wood photo cubes that I intend to alter as Christmas gifts for my club members. I still need 6 more (I bought 9) but at least I have a start. I'm only working 1/2 day tomorrow so I'll probably go in search of them at other stores and hopefully get the rest I need. I can't wait to get started on that project. I only have two small monthly swaps that I do coming up (one is 8 and one is 10) and then nothing until leadership. We leave for WDW on Dec. 12th and I'm so looking forward to it. It will be strange not being there over Christmas though but it just wasn't in the cards when DH couldn't get that week off. Hope everyone is having a great week. I'll try and check back in later on.
Sharon

I'm back! And how I have missed all my dear friends these past weeks!

And y'all made me cry!!!!!!

I had a GRUELING day yesterday - taking the greyhound again from MO down to OK. Buses were late and my 9 year old had been up all night the night before throwing up. I debated waiting another day to come home, but she was insistent that we come yesterday. I wasn't feeling good by the time we reached OK City, but just had to suck it up. My DH was supposed to meet us, but he had a surprise mtg sprung on him so we had to lug our suitcases 5 blocks to the city bus station and ride that bus for an hour up to the hospital where he works. He was done with his mtg by that point and could take us home.

By that time I was really tired of the whole experience!

When we finally got home, my DH told me just to take it easy. He fixed dinner. The kids all hugged me. The dogs went beserk - I think they missed me most of all! And then someone brought me a package that had come in the mail.

I couldn't believe that you would send me your swaps!!!!!!!!

These were incredible! Each card is a masterpiece. I loved them so much and we oohed and ahhed over them for a long time.

Totally changed my day around!

I think we all say this from time to time, but what a great group of friends! Thank you! Thank you!

I have a lot to catch up on today, but there was a nice SU order waiting for me and I get to play this week - getting ready for my hostess club next Mon. I have felt snowflakes, new DSP and that yummy striped ribbon to play with. Not to mention NEW STAMPS! Is there anything better?

Love each of you!!!!

What a busy morning! LOL

Jen--I'm so sorry for your bad news. {{hugs}}

Kathy--so glad you're home! And I am so glad you got the swaps. I hope you get to play and play today, but I'm sure you have a lot to catch up on.

Ellie--what if you scallop one edge, and use the paper piercer to make holes in each scallop? Stamp your scarecrow (am I thinking of the right set?) on a color like Apricot or Mustard. Throw on some ribbon, and you're done, babe! I think you're overthinking it!

Rhonda--I can't believe your pm box is full. For shame! LOL

Sharon--Do you have an Archivers? Ours always has the wood blocks, although they are about $6. Good luck!

I am feeling much more cheerful today. TONS to do for my Splitcoast swap on Friday: umm, design a swap, yeah, that would be a good start. Organize the prizes, plan the food, pick up prizes from Verve Visual, and make the goody bags.

Then, of course, my Card Buffets are next week! LOL Really need to narrow down the choices for December, then get cutting on November's supplies.

And I need to go vote!

This is awful Jen! I will definitley say a prayer for him and your friend!

Sharon - sorry about the backorders. I ordered the top note at the beginning of last month and when the backorder report came out it said November 24th, but it is arriving tomorrow! So maybe it will get there sooner than you think, I hope =-)

Welcome back Kathy! Sorry your trip home wasn't as smooth as you would have liked, but at least your home now!

I voted today! I had to wait about an hour, which wasn't too bad. I took my DD with me because our polling place is right next door to our subdivision and her daycare is 20 minutes the other direction. She was very good though. Stood right by me the whole time, until I went to vote, then she wanted me to hold her and she wanted to touch the screen!

Now I can concentrate on more important things, like my secret elf!

Ellie - I like what Amy said! That would be great. Instead of ribbon you could use some of the twill tape (if you have any) I really like using that with fall colors!

You might need to take a break...eat some chocolate and come back to the swap =-)

Morning. Spencer had a full blown peanut allergic reaction this morning. His previous mom (still not sure what the call her since she wasn't his birthmom) told us he had a minor peanut allergy. He got into AJ's halloween candy this morning (which my DH left out), and ate a Snicker's bar when I was getting up this morning. I wouldn't call it a minor allergy. He was coughing, wheezing, and itching and major runny nose. It lasted about 30 minutes. He's back to his normal self now but I can't wait til we get his insurance approved and I can take him to our pediatrician and figure all this stuff out with him.

But I had an unexpected order last night from a regular customer. She ordered the BS two weeks ago so I figured she was done for awhile. I love it when that happens. Only wish I had gotten it earlier in the day, before I placed my order so I could have added it and gotten some more hostess benefits. Oh well.

Jen- (((hugs))). What devastating news to receive on top of everything else. Sounds very serious and I will be praying for Jim and his family.

Jen and Crissy- Thanks for organizing the elf stuff. Looking forward to it.

Crissy- Good for you for voting already. I am going to go this afternoon after I take AJ to school. I am hoping the morning rush will be over and the evening rush won't have started yet so I won't have to wait an hour.

Ellie- I agree with Amy. Sometimes walking away for a few minutes or hours helps. Hope it comes together for you soon.

Sharon- Sounds like you've been busy. Good luck with everything and I hope your family has a great time on your vacation.

Lisa- Hugs to you too. Hope the audit goes well.

Amy- I am sure your SWISS shoebox swap will be a smashing success. Tera sent me the frankie card you made at your buffet last month. Very cute!

Kathy- What an adventure. Glad you are home and glad you got your swaps. Hope you are able to play today too.

Liz- Congrats on getting your "crimping master" title. Woo Hoo!

Angie- Good to hear from you too. Enjoy your soup.

Did I miss anyone? If I did, please don't take it personal. I'm a new mom remember?

I thought it was time to ROCK my Vote.. for my babies and for their future.. NOW back to this swap!! and gals I like your ideas.. you know I figured what throwing me off its that card base is Whisper White and I have been using Choc. Chip and other fall colors for my base.. I want to make a pretty card for my VA Reg. Swap.. This is my first so I can't wait I feel nervous excited and can't wait to see what I see.!! LOL...

BUT first I will eat and then get back to this swap.. as a matter of fact let me actually finish the other one which I need to just add ribbon to (that one is a 3D swap)

I had to wait well over an hour to vote...I've never waited more than 10 or 15minutes. It was nuts! We aren't even in a state in which it matters!

I picked up some flat rate boxes (2 sizes--I'm only sending one box) to send my 12 days to my little Elfette too!

Hi All - just catching up with ya'll while I have the very green auditor up a ladder to our storage loft to dig through boxes. I can't say I really feel sorry for her...she will learn...she has only been doing this since July and you can tell. Anyway - sales tax audit - pain in the butt!!! She said she will not finish today either and needs to come back! Well, she will just have to come on Thursday cause I have to see the Ortho about my shoulder again tomorrow and there is no one else here in the office. And on I carry...

Kathy - so glad you are home and enjoyed your surprise of swaps! {Hugs}

Jen - so sorry to hear about your friend. I will add a prayer for him and his family. So sad.

Rhonda - shhhh - don't give yourself away! PM box full??? You must be a very popular gal

Ellie - taking a break from a swap always helps me. Chocolate of course never hurts anything. It will all come together!

Sharon - I hate backorders they spoil my anticipation of new toys! Hope yours come earlier than expected.

Hello - Angie, Liz, Crissy, Paula, Amy, and everyone!

Got my elfette...now to get to work. I started one project last week and that is exactly where it still is!

Preparing for this weekends all day crop on Saturday. I have to get some scrapbooking done or I will never get caught up!!! I am still working on 2004 trip and going on another one in Feb...my goal is to finish at least this one before I go.

Voted right through this morning. DH had about 15 min wait, but I was at least half hour behind him leaving the house.

Well, I voted really fast. LOL There were lines of 4-6 people at each other part of the alphabet, but mine I just walked up. I took my almost-9yo daughter, because she's been asking so many questions about the election. That was fun. I try to take one or two of my kids each time, so voting will not be so unfamiliar to them when they are old enough.
