Ladies, I hate to be bearing bad news again but things are not looking very good with Rusty. His lab tests came back showing signs of internal bleeding and we have been back at the vet yesterday for more tests and xrays and today for an ultrasound. The ultrasound showed a completely diseased spleen and also a spot on his liver. They are 98% certain it is cancer, they've seen too many of these, especially in Goldens. We could do surgery to remove the spleen and nodule on the liver but that has its own complications which could result in him not coming out of the surgery. And even if he survived the surgery they still can't guarantee me that he would live more than a few months. He's not in pain and is doing fine right now, he will just get weaker as time goes on. The vet said he has probably a month but I'm determined to prove her wrong. If he makes it through Christmas it will be the best present I'll ever have. We're just gonna love and spoil him as much as humanly possible until he lets us know it is time to go.

Kathi~That is EXACTLY what happened to Maggie this summer. Did they tell you to put him on a Chicken and Rice diet? It seemed to really perk her up and at least she was able to eat and mostly keep that down. {{{{HUGS}}}}

Oooh, Kathi, I am soooo very sorry. I am sitting here bawling over the news. And, like many of us, I have never met him, either. My heart breaks for you. That is always the horrible down-side of owning a special furry one. Love him, even more, now. And, when the time is right, you will give him the greatest gift of all...

Thanks again everyone for all your kind words of support, it seems that's all I've done here lately is share bad news with you. I appreciate all of you being there for me. Now that I am over the shock of hearing the news I am focusing on the fact that God has allowed us to have this beautiful boy in our lives for almost 11 years. Any extra time we are given will be a bonus. I talked to my friend in OR today who has lost 3 Goldens to cancer over the last 11 years and she gave me a lot of positive things to think about so I feel better after talking to her.

Guess who's going to work with Mommy the next 3 days????

Rose, we didn't know he was sick either until the bloodwork came back showing the low blood count and platelets. The only thing I've been noticing lately is that he was breathing heavier and seemed to be laying around a little more. If the seizures hadn't started back up I guess we wouldn't have known until he was really sick. The vet thinks the seizures were caused by the bleeding depriving his brain of oxygen. I'm sorry to hear you had to experience the same thing with your Golden too. Apparently it's very prevalent in this breed.

Kimme, when I was researching this online I saw where German Shepherds were also very prone to this as well. I didn't realize that's what happened to Maggie too, I'm so sorry. They didn't say anything about the Chicken and Rice but I will definitely give that to him if it will help keep him stronger. Right now he is eating good, he scarfed down two bowls of food tonight when he came home from the vet. He wasn't allowed to have anything to eat this morning because he had to have a little sedation in order for them to do the ultrasound.

Kathi we were told 3 parts rice to one part chicken. I cooked a bunch of chicken for her and some rice and broke it up into the proper portions in small freezer bags. Since we were feeding her twice a day I kept 6 bags in the fridge and the rest in the freezer and as I used one in the fridge I pulled one out of the freezer to replenish it. My cousin has raised herding dogs and this is the method she uses. She actually makes up a months worth of food at a time, I did about 4 days worth.

Naw, was stuck at back to school night, 6:30-9:15. Missed Big Brother, too. Will watch it On Demand, though. My ears are plugged - don't tell me who won!!

Thanks so much Kimme! I will definitely fix some for him! I know he will love it much more than dry old dog food!

Very sad news around here......

My sizzix broke.....I almost cried. Guess I need to go find a new baby I do have a 50% off coupon guess that makes it somewhat better. I'll let you all know when the funeral will be.

Can I come? That is one of my favorites. Of course, if I am just making it for the heck of it I will add orzo pasta to it I usually make it to jump start losing a few pounds.

Sorry to hear that Amanda! I have an extra sizzix big shot if you'd like to borrow it for now.
