Jane,

Do you work during the week or would you be able to stamp on a week day?

I've done quite a few shoebox swaps so will be glad to help ya'll with some hints and tips!

First thing is you design your card and make one copy. Don't try to get too fancy with it, simple is better, because you want the other people to be able to re-create it easily. That's not to say don't use layers or embellishments or coloring but just not too elaborate. Try to make one that can be done in about 15 minutes.

Then, whatever materials you used to make that card goes into the shoebox. Stamps, ink, markers, ribbon, cardstock, brads, etc., etc. What most of us do is make up a sandwich size ziploc baggie with the cardstock, lengths of ribbon, number of brads, etc. that would be used on one card. For this swap if all spots are filled, which I'm sure they will be, you would have 29 separate baggies. The swap will be 30 people but you don't count yourself.

Include instructions to make the card, preferably typed so that they are readable by the other swappers. I usually do step-by-step instructions, numbering them 1,2,3 and so on.

Make sure you include your sample card.

When you get to the swap, Cindy will give you a goodie bag and a number. The number goes on your shoebox signifying that it's yours. All the shoeboxes go on a table in the front of the room. She'll then have a list of all the numbers on a piece of paper in your bag and as you finish each numbered box you will mark it off so you'll know which ones you've done. You'll sit in the same spot for the entire day and just go up and grab a box off the table, come back to your spot, make the card, mark off your numbered sheet, then take that box back up and get another one until you've made all the cards.

Some other things to remember:

1)Take plenty of whatever kind of adhesive you are using so you don't run out

2) Bring scissors, bone folder, and any other tools you want to bring that you like to use.

3) Bring either your Stampin' Scrub or baby wipes to clean the stamps. You'll need to clean everyone's stamps as you use them and put them back in the shoebox.

4) Dress comfortably.

5) Bring whatever food item you've signed up to bring

6) Have Fun!!!!!!

Cindy will do door prizes throughout the day and we break around noon for lunch. Breakfast items are also provided for the morning.

That's all I can think of right now, if I think of anything else I'll post more. If anyone else thinks of something I forgot or any other tips or hints that I've not mentioned please let us know!

Oh, and make sure you print out the registration form and mail it to Cindy with your check!

Hugs,
Yes there are only 21 stampers for the PA swap, but there are 30 stampers for the Baltimore swap.

For the Baltimore swap, there's room for 31 people to attend, so everyone prepares enough supplies for 30 people to make their card. You'll go home with 30 different cards that you've made throughout the day.

Okay Ladies,

With all the swaps coming up, I think we need another stamping day! I will have an open stamp on friday July 25th from 10am until we drop!lol

I will put up tables and chairs. If we get more stampers than last time I will need to have someone bring folding chairs.lol

You all can bring whatever you would like to work on and I can plan some challenges for those of us that need a little creative push that day.

For convience please bring a basic stamping kit that contains black ink pad of your choice, sissors, and adhesive.

This time we can have a potluck, so everyone can feel free to bring something if they are wanting too. I'm not sure what I will make at this point, but will let you all know as soon as I figure something out. I will have tea and kookaid made though.lol

Post if you are coming and I will pm you my address and phone number. If you don't already have it.

Hope to see lots of you!

Thanks[/font]

Ladies Coming:

Kathi
Jane-maybe

Does anyone know what the Metro system is called so I can look up a phone number to call and see what times it runs?

Tracy, the only thing I've ever heard it called is the Washington, DC Metro. I googled it and here is a link:

Cool! I hear the new In Colors are awesome! It's hard to really tell exactly what they look like just looking at cards in the gallery. Have fun with your new goodies!

Thanks again! I think I have most of it figured out.lol I'm just a little confussed about their parking info. I just ordered the smarttrip card, hoping it will make things easier.lol At least I was given some maps to help out with learning the area. I'm very bad with directions and locations.

The smarttrip card is a lifesaver and does make things so much easier. DH and I have used the Metro a few times without any problems. We usually park at the Greenbelt Station and take that into DC. So much easier than trying to find a place to park in DC. Good luck!

Mrs (whats your name?!) Congrats on the hubby promotion! I hope this means a larger stamp room and more stamps!

Tracy, Where in DC do you want to go, I agree a smarttrip card is your best bet, it is a lifesaver and its pretty easy to navigate DC, at the metro station they have alot of pamplets, get yourself a pocket guide to the metro, it will help alot.

Also, what ever mode of public transportation you take, there is always a friendly face around to help you out!

If I can help in any way, let me know!

Hugs,

Loretta

Kathi did give me their website info and was able to download a map and all. It's just a little confussing on their explanation of parking available at the station. I'm probably having one of my moments!lol

Thanks,

Thanks! It's Dawnmarie (yes all one word..long and you wouldn't believe how many times it's mispronounced!)

I already have the biggest room in the house.. the entire first floor is mine all mine bwahahahahah.

we use the Metro every time we go into DC. it's worth it to us to drive the hour to the nearest stop and train in. parking on the weekends is free, too. and only like $3.50 I think for all day during the week, although the rates may have gone up.

there will be pocket size maps of the routes at the station too, and anyone who works there can help you buy tickets or if I am there, I tend to stick my nose in and ask lost looking touristy types if they need help.

if you are just going to one place, just buying the one way tickets may be fine, but if you plan on hitting a bunch of stops. get an all day pass..after 9 am weekdays and all day w/e and holidays. unlimited use of the subway. really great deal if you are commando tourists. but sometimes the all day pass is actually cheaper than buying a pair of one ways, depending on destination.

This'll learn me to actually READ the posts when I get emailed from a subscription.. I want to say thanks for all the offers to carpool, ladies, but actually, I don't live on base..I am down in Pasadena. Maybe I should like change my profile to reflect the fact that I have moved, huh? heheheh

any of the events on the weekends I can get Squidward( aka my husband) to drop me off somewhere, so maybe the next time somebody has one on a Saturday I can swing it.

LOL! I just bought a refillable card, so I don't have to worry last minute about anything if I plan another trip to DC, which I figure I will be doing on a more regular basis since my Aunt is living there and I want to take the kids sight seeing once Bob gets back from school. I could do it myself, but I like to torture him!he he he

torturing our spouses is fun!

here's a hint:

When going to the Zoo, do NOT get off at Woodley Park/Zoo station. go one stop further. same distance, but its level(once you reach the surface that is, both stops have escalators in the 90 degree angle range) as opposed to being uphill.

PLUS since everybody ELSE gets off at Woodley Park, it's always way more crowded at the station and along the way.

Plus there is this REALLY great Asian Fusion restaurant along the way....

Okay, I finally finished one card today. Thought I would do it for my swap, but I'm not quite sure I like it, but I'll let you all see it on friday. Maybe before then I will have a couple of choices.

Count me in for the 25th, Missy will be with her grandmother, Chad will be home, and I will be free. Free -- free-- ahhh free!

I can bring 4 folding chairs if needed. Also (theresa will know what I'm talking about) I've got two four foot tables I've used for crafting, they are $15.00. <mike said I have to sell them> U-haul. Let me know if you want them. I want something alittle more sturdy and a little larger.

Hey there!
We are thinking about getting moved there in early August. We are considering purchasing the home in Bel Air and making the move. I have a few quick questions about the area, though.

DD starts kindergarten and she needs immunization records. Is there a form our doctor has to complete, or is it just a print out of her records? I couldn't find anything specific on the school site (hcps.org).
Can you recommend a gymnastics and dance studio? DD took gymnastics until last month, but she is talking more about dance now, so we are looking for both just in case.

Thanks!

Trracy;

I'm planning on coming! I'll be FREE. I'll just be getting back from Augusta picking up my Chad and dropping off Melissa.

I may bring Chad if Craig (oldest DS) so he can play with your kids while I play.

Looks like Mike will be in Northern Virginia for the next 6 weeks.(during the day). ahhh !

Hugs,

Hello,

I have no idea about gymnastics or dance places.

For Pre K all I needed to do was go to the clinic and pick up a copy of the immunization record. I didn't have to get anything from the doc.

Where is Bel Air? Is that north of Baltimore? I'll have to google it.
