Because I am the one who initially set the group up, I am considered the "Owner" by Yahoo (but want y'all to know that I think we ALL own the group) and, because it was set up as a closed group, I am the one approving the membership requests. I am happy to do this but I will be going on vacation in October and will be away from a computer for the better part of 3 weeks and, obviously, won't be able to approve anyone during that time! It is possible to designate "Moderators" for the group . . . I can't figure out if a Moderator can approve members or not BUT . . .
Would 2-3 of you volunteer to be Moderators? Once we set it up, we should be able to tell if a Moderator can approve memberships . . . If NOT, I'll ask someone to take over as Owner while I'm gone. That way, new members won't have to wait for me to return from my vacation!

Any volunteers?
I would be HAPPY to help out. I am at the computer at least every night if not several times throoughout most days. Just let me know what I need to do!

Thanks Darcy! I'll set you up as a moderator . . . if that gives you the authority to approve members, great! If not, we will talk about transfering 'ownership' to you while I'm gone.
It might still be a good idea to have another moderator so we don't have to worry about taking days off . . . anyone else?
Of course I will do whatever you need! Sign me up for whatever you need!!!

Okay Ladies! I have set both Darcy and Shelley as moderators . . . during the editing, I had several options so I was able to set it up so that you both are able to approve new members. Actually, it is set up so they can do anything except delete the group itself or each other!

Okay. It showed me the management link. When I got the email from yahoo it said that you can give me other priviledges (responsibilties). I will need to have you show me how to approve and that. If you want to you can do so on the 17th when you come.

OHH that is dangerous!! (to let you know what I am thinking!!) It just might hurt you!
I say yes to the shoeboxes.
Goodies... hmmm CHOCOLATE!!! I don't really care! I have drinks so no one will need to worry about those! EASY lunch stuff is fine.
How long???? As long as you like!!!! I don't have anything planned!
If you want to stay a LONG time then you better bring LOTS and LOTS of CHOCOLATE!!!!!!!!!! ;-)

BUMMER!!! You mean I can't delete her!
Just kidding Shelley!!!
obviously I don't read through everything before posting!

This is really easy . . . When you first go to the group site, if there is anyone pending approval, it will say so at the top. Just click on that link and then just select 'approved' from the drop down menu by that person's name. Easy! Even I could do it! ;)
If this yahoo group grows a lot and you need another moderator, I don't mind helping out, once I stop working full time and start working from home....So if you are wanting to add anyone around November, just let me know!!!
That would be great Stephanie! I'm inclined to add you now so it doesn't slip my mind. The way I see it, the more people that can approve members, the faster the process and the more friendly the group. Can I add you now or would you rather wait? Even if you became a moderator now, there isn't really any obligation to do anything specific so it shouldn't take much if any of your time.
In case anyone is worried about having to make a decision on whether to approve someone or not . . . I elected to NOT include the group in the Yahoo directory so the only people who will even know it exists will be the people who read about it on SCS OR the people who receive an invitation from another member of the group. Unless the group gets HUGE, HUGE, HUGE, it should be pretty easy to figure out who is asking to join.

Thanks Comeka!
Just to let everyone know I am working on a signup list for food. I am thinking sandwiches and desserts (or should it be desserts and sandwiches?? ;) ) I will post it here in the next day or so hopefully! If it isn't posted by Sunday someone PLEASE remind me!! My dad is having surgery tomorrow morning instead of today! So I just might forget with everything I have going on Saturday too! If anyone has something in particular they would like to bring let me know.
Heck just forget the sandwiches and have desserts!!! LOL!
I will bring whatever you'd like....hmmmm - I have a good dip recipe.....

Darcy -
Have you decided what time we will be invading your place on the 17th?
I would like to bring Jezebel sauce over cream cheese and crackers. I can also bring a relish tray (pickles, peppers, etc.).
Thank you again for taking this on ... especially, with all that is going on in your life right now. You are very much appreciated.
Kimberly

Since this is my first shoebox swap, I decided to take the
information that Kimberly gave on the SCS Arkansas thread and other info I found on SCS concerning shoebox swaps and organize it into a shoebox swap info sheet. This helps me visualise better what I need to do...I'm a visual learner. So I thought I would share.
Kimberly suggested we do a "laid back" version of the swap...so that we can get a lot done in a small amount of time (remember we have 15 signed up):o , this will leave us time to fellowship too. But if you don't want to pre-stamp images that's fine...whatever you think works best and easiest for your project that you are sharing.
Shoebox Swap
Generally, for a shoebox swap, you bring a box (shoe-sized generally works). Inside is placed:
- All the paper needed for your project - already cut to size - for all participants (I usually add an extra of each in case of stamper errors)
- Stamps & Colors (ink pads, markers, versamark, pastels, etc.)
- Any special tool needed for the task at hand (i.e. punch, deco scissors)
- All embellishments needed for project
- One completed sample and One step-by-step instruction sheet on how to make it (I usually attached this to the lid of the box)
Rules:
1. Bring your own cutter, scissors, glue, tape, stamp cleaner/pad, the basics.
2. Take good care of anothers products. Like don't stamp on the light
colored stamp pad without cleaning off the darker color first.
Different Options
Design Shoe box Option 1 ("laid back" swap)
1. Bring all the necessary materials for ## people that are crafting that day.
2. For Cards you can do a full card or a card front
3. You could do a card or a gift project (like a paper box or pencil pouch, etc.)
4. Bring the card stock, tools, punches and embellishments you used in your design
5.If there is a lot of stamping to be done then go ahead and stamp the image/words on card stock .. etc. Then, the only thing each of us would do is put it together .
Technique Shoebox Option 2
1. Teach a stampin technique
2. Provide all materials for each person to try out the technique
3. As an example, if you wanted to do the shaving cream technique .. you bring the cream, some ink refills, paper plates, plastic knives (or something to scrape with) and then maybe provide a 1/4 sheet of CS for everyone to play with.
Advanced Technique Shoebox Option 3
1. For an advanced technique that requires more time then is allowed
2. Bring supplies to demo the technique
3. Provide each stampers with the supplies to do the technique at home.
4. Example: Mosaic technique requires a lot of tearing. Provide each stamper with paper to tear, sticky paper, a little thing of EP to take home.
Rotation:
Darci is the host, so we can let her decide. Kimberly may have more experience on this and might know the which rotation is better to do.
There are different ways of rotating during the swap:
1. Boxes are at a designated spot and stampers rotate chair to chair
2. Stampers stay in one spot and boxes are rotated

Thank you for sharing all of this great information! I have only done ONE shoebox swap and that was when I met 5 fellow stampers in Branson this summer. We did not get to all items in our shoeboxes because we ran out of time. I think keeping things simple like you have listed is a wonderful idea.
Perhaps I should plan on having components for a card with the "keagle" paper already made ... and then bring supplies to show the technique if we have time.

check out the yahoo group site
If you are coming to the get together this Saturday PLEASE check the yahoo group site for directions to my house!!! If you have any questions please call or email me!!
Darcy - Sorry, I haven't signed up for anything yet. What is left that you need me to bring? Bread, condiments, desserts? Also, is it too late to bring a friend that just signed up to be a demonstrator. She might be able to come if she can find someone to watch her 6 yr. old son. Her hubby is out of town this weekend. Let me know if it is too late.
Thanks!

For me it isn't to late to bring your friend. Just let me know ASAP! Also so that everyone else can prepare also! If that is okay with everyone else. I will post the food list again right after this so that it isn't so far down!
