Hello ladies. My husband just accepted a job in Houston Texas, so sometime very soon we will be relocating there. And of course, I'm a woman with my priorities right. I will need to know about rubber stamping/mixed media store in that area. I tried to google, but not finding anything yet. Can someone hook me up??
Novel Approach is the only true stamp store I know of. It's in Friendswood which SE toward Galveston. There are also a number of scrapbook stores in the area - By Design, Scrapbook Junkie and a couple further south. Archiviers is in Katy and Lone Star is in the Woodlands. There are a few more stores but they really don't advertise much so I don't know who they are.
And, Beadsonthebrain and I have hosted a SBS and plan to host another one this summer. Details to come soon.
Wow, I would have thought a big town like Houston would have more. No wonder I couldn't find one by google. I'm don't know what SBS is but I will be on the look out. Thanks so much for taking the time to comment.
Do you know the best area's surrounding Houston to live?? I haven't even been there yet, so I don't have a clue. DH just took a job there, so we will probably rent a house for the first year.
We used to have more but many have fallen to the way side. I'm sure there are ones I am not aware of.
First thing - Where is your DH's job? As spread out as Houston is, you don't want to get on the other side of town or the commute will be a killer. Then it would depend whether you have kids and are looking for good school districts or not. I'm out on the NW side of town. Feel free to email me privately.
WOW! DH will be working in the NE corner of inner loop. We are going to head out that way 23-26th to look for somewhere to live. Cross your fingers for us. We are looking in the north east side, Humble, Atascocita, Kingwood, Spring area's. I noticed there were a couple of hospitals on the north side as well. I'm a nurse, so I'm hoping to find work out that way and never have to venture into downtown Houston.
The house still hasn't sold here yet. DH starts work on May 12, so we will probably start him out in a 2 br apt. for now. I'm staying behind til the house sells.
You girls have been very nice and helpful. Thanks for all the info!
I had a real tough time adjusting to Houston when we moved there in '88 (gosh have I been in Texas that long?) My DH (at the time LOL) worked in the Galleria and we lived in NW Houston off 529 and Hwy 6. Ultimately he ended up off South Hwy 6 at Dow and we moved out to Cypress in Fairfield. Wonderful neighborhood. Can't believe how its grown out that way.
Everyone is right about finding out where DH is working and if you need good school districts. I know Cy-Fair schools are highly rated as are Katy but be picky about what neighborhood. Email off line you would like more information.
Be sure to check out the school district's web site for demographic information. We live in Cypress (NW side of Houston) and love it here. I have lived here almost my whole life. Husband moved out with me here from a not nice area and almost went into culture shock. Everyone is friendly out here and you are not too far from anything.
I have family that lives and works in Kingwood and work in the medical profession. That is a beautiful area... Good luck finding the right location for you. Many of the suburbs are very pretty. Have stayed in the Woodlands as well, another gorgeous area.
Thank you so much for all of your encouragement! It's always nerve racking, but exciting, moving to a whole new part of the country! We are not bit travelors, and I've never been that far west.
Schools aren't an issue. Our kids are grown. We are in our mid 40's.
We picked out a ton of houses to look at weekend and our realtor is setting them up. We are going to rent for the first year. We have been looking from anywhere from Crosby, around to Spring. I was considering Tomball as well since there seems to be a hospital there. But DH wants to avoid driving over that way, if possible. That would be a little further for him since he is working NE corner of inside loop.
Wow! I had no idea how hard it would be to find a house to rent in our price range. We looked at sooooo many housed that looked great on the outside, well kept yards, and then went inside. Some where newer houses, so you would have expected them to still be in good condition. So sad that they were trashed on the inside. We wondered if they were forclosures. With that being said, we ended up with a house in Spring.
We did take a break from house hunting to run out to Katy - Archivers. I liked the produts they carried but was surprised it was so small. We drove past Lonestar at The Woodlands, but didn't have time to stop. I didn't get to make it south to Novel Approach in Friendswood. I'll have to visit that one on my next visit.
Hi there and welcome to the neighborhood - sort of. I'm waaaaay down south of your intended location just outside of SW Houston in Sugar Land. There are a few scrapping stores all around town. In my neighborhood is The Scrapbook Village as well as 3 Hobby Lobbys and a Michaels. You will find what you need. I've heard tell of several shops down 45 south area - around the NASA and Friendswood area. I buy a lot of my stuff online anyway.
