Default Confused about CHA...

There is the CHA Supershow on the 22nd and 23rd of January

and THEN

There is the CHA Tradeshow from January 24th-28th.

What is the difference? TIA!

I think the Supershow is open to the public and the Tradeshow is just for retailers to see the new products.

You can go to both if you are a "designer" on a design team. But the Tradeshow or Wholesale show is not for buying things on the spot. Most of the companies will take orders but they have mostly samples of all of their new products for stores to look at and place orders for.

The Supershow or Consumer show is much like a larger version of a Stamping and Scrapbooking show that you might have gone to locally where vendors set up a booth and do demos and make and takes and you can purchase items from them.

I am curious how the Craft show for everyone compares to the wholesale show? I went to the tradesho as a design team member last yera for Hanna Stamps IT was amazing! How does the two day event for everyone compare? Are there as many make and takes, giveaways and freebies? Is it worth the cost of tickets, hotel, food and travel from Arizona?

I went to the Supershow in Orlando this past August. And I'll make no effort to go again. The GASC that comes to my area is much better than this show was. SO many of the vendors packed up and went home before the consumer show.

Now if I could go to the retailer version of CHA.... I'd be ALL OVER that just to see what's coming down the pike.

Personally I enjoyed the SuperShow just b/c of all the people I got to meet & hang out with but if you get all of that at the trade show it's probably not worth it for you. You can get most of the same thing if not better at a Scrapping/Stamping convention

Now I don't know if they are going to get better participation now b/c this is the Winter show & the 2nd one. We'll just have to wait & see

I have a feeling that the consumer show will be much larger than it was in FL. That was the very first show of this kind for them and Summer CHA's are MUCH (like half or less the size) of Winter CHA's.

Summer Show was a testing ground and a lot of big companies had no idea exactly how it was going to work. This year everyone has a much better plan and knows what to expect so there will be more of the big companies there than Summer, and if you're looking for make-n-takes then the Supershow is great!

At the summer show there was this one booth, I think it was called SCS or something , anyways, they had a different make 'n take every two hours! I wished I could just play there all day, but I had to catch a flight out

But you're flying in early for this one, right?

You bet! If SCS has cupcakes I'll be there till the sugar runs out! NO flying home early for me.

I was a member of CHA before it was CHA, when it was two separate associations - I loved going to HIA and I still enjoy going to CHA. But what people forget is it isn't all about make and takes, it is a place I go for my business. So the trade show is for businesses and the supershow is for crafters. What people have to also realize is CHA is for all types of crafters not just papercrafters - I run a children's art business. I check out the scrapbooking section, but I am there for different crafts. The same is the case for the supershow, I think that the local scrapbook show we have here was better than the supershow if you were a papercrafter. Also, remember member companies pay a yearly membership fee and in addition to being able to attend CHA we get other benefits. CHA conducts studies about craft trends and offers business training. I have served on one of the section boards and gained a great deal of information about the craft industry.
