CLOSED!!! PA SUMMER BASH Shoebox Swap
Ok Ladies - Our summer get together has finally been scheduled!!!!! The details are the same as our April Spring Fling, in fact, I copied the text from the April gathering.
Summer Bash Shoebox Swap!
PA SplitCoastStampers Gathering
Saturday, August 9th from 10:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m.
Fancy That Scrapbook Boutique
Hummelstown, PA
http://fancythatscrapbook.com/
Join us for a day of stamping and card making fun!
Cost- $18 per person ($19 via PayPal). This fees covers the rental of the facility and door prizes throughout the day, but since this time our swap is being held in a store, if you purchase more than $15.00 in products from the boutique, you will receive your rental fee back ($15.00). Registration will be limited to 20 people in order to keep the swapping reasonable. Your registration fee must be paid for by Monday, July 14. There are no refunds after this date. You may pay via PayPal by using a debit card, credit card, or PayPal existing funds. You may also mail a check if you prefer. Please contact me when you are ready to sign up and I will provide my PayPal address or my mailing address.
Shoebox Swap- By popular vote, we will be doing a shoebox swap this get together! All cards are to be full cards. Each card must use at least two layers and one embellishment. Please bring enough supplies for everyone to make your card including all cardstock, stamps, inks, embellishments, tools, etc. Make sure all of your supplies (stamps, ink pads, scissors, punches, etc.) are labeled with either your name or initials, so we all go home with the stuff we brought. Supplies are not limited to any manufacturer, but please use high quality cardstock.
Each person should have a sample and typed instructions in their box telling how to make your card. Each swap should be in its own individual baggie or envelope that contains everything each person needs to do your card. This should help the the swap go more smoothly.
Lunch- We will be doing another potluck lunch! The site we use has a kitchen area, so each person will be responsible for bringing something to share! Beverages will be provided. It can be something you make or purchase. You do not need to bring an enormous amount of food, just enough to share with 8-10 people! A sign up list will be in another post.
Yard Sale- There will be a table set up for a buy/sell/trade area. Its a great way to get rid of a few things and pick up some new goodies! I know I'll be bringing LOTS of stamps to sell! All items must be priced and any buying/selling/trading will be the table owners responsibility. Just remember certain companies have policies regarding the buying and selling of their merchandise. Please be sure to abide by those rules. If you are interested in a spot, please let me know when you register so I can make sure there will be enough tables.
Door prizes- Throughout the day, we'll be giving out some little door prizes to keep things exciting!
Fabulous Nametag Contest- Make and wear a 4x 6 nametag with your name and your SCS name so we know you on sight. Get creative and make something fabulous! The best nametag will win a special prize! Let's see who will win this time! No repeats from the last get together! This is also a fun way to learn everyones names!
Stamp for a Cause- Please create one card to send to the troops via the SplitCoastStampers Stamp Your Heart Out Campaign. The inside of the card must be left BLANK, but the design of the card is up to you! Each card should be placed with an envelope inside a clear Ziploc bag. If you wish to create more than one card, go for it! All cards will be collected at the check-in table.
Other Stuff Please bring your own items for your personal stamping and scrapbooking needs, especially your favorite adhesive. These are the items you just cant stamp without! You will need these supplies to assemble the swaps. Please be sure to label your items if you feel it is necessary.
Remember to register and pay by Monday, July 14th!!
For any questions and to register please contact me via PM.
All the Best!
Becky Gorton

Hi Becky! I'd love to come...but the date you posted is April 6th. A little too much copying and pasting???:p Also, is the part about bringing food still the same?

OOps
I am so sorry guys for not putting the right date. I am a victim of the copy/paste button and proof reading too fast. I was so excited that I had finally found a place that a)had an opening, b)had a/c, and c)didn't cost $500-700 for the day! I have pretty high standards for finding a place, huh?
The deal on lunch is the same, just sign up for something yummy we can eat during our break.
And don't forget your wallet, the Fancy That Scrap boutique is absolutely darling and they've always got great specials going! The ladies (Jodi and Marcie) will also refund $15 of the $18 registration fee if your purchase more than $15 in the store. Now, personally, I think that's an awesome deal!
Please let me know if youo have anymore questions.
Hugs,
Becky

Yeah! Sign me up, I was hoping you could get everything worked out. July 26th works well for me, and this time I am only driving an hour and a half. Thanks for all the work you did to set this up. I will pm you for your address and will send you a check right away. I will think about the food and let you know about what I would like to bring. Now off to come up with something great for my swap.

Becky, that is absolutely crazy! I can not believe you would pay/people would charge that much per day just for the space! That's why I asked about food, I was thinking maybe with the higher cost, lunch would be included. Things are so much more expensive out there! Yikes!
Thank you for organizing a get together out that way, I really appreciate it! It gives me a break from all the planning! I was REALLY hoping it would be in August, but we've got two weddings and DH's birthday in July. I will not be able to make this one. But if you need any help with anything please let me know! I'll be happy to keep the thread bumped for you!

Ok before I sign up PLEASE tell me everyone brings their entire kitchen/kitchen sink with them. I don't want to look like a crazy girl dragging all of my goodies in. Also do we have to go up/down steps. I know, another stupid question. It just helps me plan for packing and such. DH comes home from a 4 day trip tonight so I'll find out if he'll be home that weekend. Ok you girls have no idea how excited I am to FINALLY maybe be able to meet all of you.

I can answer from past experience. I've been to three shoebox swaps. Everyone brings what they need in one box. All the pieces to make the swap card should be in a baggie or envelope and all the loose items (stamps, ink pads, tools) should be in the box with the baggies. Does that make sense? I'm trying to think of what else you mean by kitchen/kitchen sink? You won't have time to stamp/scrap other than to assemble swaps and eat so don't bother to bring anything else to work on. I do believe there are steps in Fancy That, but I'm just going by what I remember someone saying about it having two floors. Becky will have to get on to answer that. I have heard that Fancy That is an AMAZING store! I would say if you've been in a swap of any kind before (online, with friends, shoebox, etc.) you'd have a good idea of what is required skill wise to participate. Beyond that, this is a great group of gals and all different skill levels are represented. That's what makes it fun! You go home with so many different cards! You will learn something new, guaranteed!

Becky,
You put a lot of work into this already. If changing the date is going to make more work for you, don't do it. Any get-together we do some people aren't going to be able to make it, that's just the way it works. Summer is an especially busy time with vacations and everything. I really think you need to do what is easiest for you and not worry about what works for everyone else. Pick a date and go with it! We support you and will help you either way!

I agree, perfectly said! I organize a crop in Newport 2 times a year and it is A LOT of work and it does not always suit everyone. Do what works for you!

A date change thanks to our amazing Air Force!
So, my dear, dear husband informed me tonight on the ride home that he was scheduled to go to Key West on a short deployment the last week of July, He will be leaving on the 23rd and returning on the 28th, just in time for me to go to the CTMH convention in Orlando. I have twin 3 year olds, so doing anything that weekend that doesn't involve the kids is out! So, as it is now, I can't even attend.
I stopped by the Fancy That Boutique and talked to the nicest lady named Marcie and we agreed that August 9th would be a much better date for not only me, but also the store since they will be returning from a convention around July 24th.
Therefore, I am officially changing the date to AUGUST 9th. For those who said yes to the original date, please re-check your calendars for August 9th.
I try to be very supportive of my Air Force husband, but sometimes it just drives me crazy.
Thank you all so much for your support and I hope everyone can make it.

You know Barb the Ren Faire is only about 25 minutes from the swap. Maybe we could work out a way for you to do both. Or you can just stop by!

I went to the store tonight and there are 4 steps you go down to get into the main area (cash register, paper place, and the CROP ROOM). There is also a staircase going to the second floor filled with all kinds of goodies to shop for. The majority of our time will be spent on the main floor, so just 4 steps to deal with.
By the way, the store is absolutely adorable. It is set up and decorated just like I want my craft room done!!!
And for those with families, Hersheypark is only 5 minutes away from the store! So dad and the kids can spend the day there and you can spend the day swapping!

Another tip Becky, now that the date is settled you probably want to PM everyone from the last thread to let them know the new get-together is ready. I haven't seen a lot of our regulars posting over here so they may not know about it. A lot of people delete their subscription once the event is over so posting to the thread doesn't always work, but a PM usually generates some sign-ups!

I am bummed out now, I cannot make it on that day. So i will have to take my name off your list. I do wish you all to have the best of fun. Maybe I will be able to make the next one.
