Hi Ladies,
Remember Inkylady's wonderful SCS get together in Okemos a year or two ago? I had such a great time!
We're going to do a similar one February 9/10!
Format will be Friday p.m. 4 p.m-12 open stamping/scrapping time in a hotel meeting room...ample table space. There will be door prizes for the Friday ladies but no challenges, swaps, etc.
Saturday 8?-til midnight will be more structured...with swaps, shoebox swaps, design challenges, door prizes, and more! Also lots of time to stamp, chat, munch.
Approximate Saturday schedule:
8:00-9:00 Arrive, casual stamping and chatting
9:00 Official start! Introductions, announcements, etc.
9:30-11:30 Shoebox swapping
11:30-1:00 Lunch break (pack your own or visit a nearby restaurant)
1:00-1:30 Card swap
1:30-3:30 Challenges! If you don't want to play you can stamp/chat/watch
3:30-4:00 Challenge voting
4:00-6:00 Open stamping
6:00-? Dinner
?-12:00 midnight Open stamping
***What to bring***
Basic stamping supplies: paper cutter, plenty of adhesive, eyelet tools, basic punches
Stamps, inks, embellishments (you will be able to add your own for some of the challenges).
Your own beverages
A snack to share (fruit/chips/cookies/muffins/whatever!)
Neglected stamps and other supplies to trade.
Cards if you are swapping...16 swappers. Rules for ingredients same as for shoebox swap, below.
Shoebox swap materials: sample card, precut cardstock (SU please if possible), stamps (SU, current or retired), inks, embellishments (any brand), any unusual adhesives needed (glue dots, sticky strip, etc.) 23 swappers (but it's a good idea to cut a few extras).
Costs:
-participation $25. This includes room rental, some supplies, lots of door prizes!
-hotel $80 per night per room. This is a discounted rate; ask for Michigan Splitcoast Stampers when reserving. Holiday Inn Express, Okemos, 517/347-6690.
Meals are on your own (the hotel offers free breakfast). Bring snacks to share, potluck style.

-be our official photographer and post photos on SCS
-donate prizes (stamp sets, embellishments, stamped gifts, ??
-plan a challenge (this is a contest to make a card or scrapbook page using limited supplies)
-lend a stamp set for a challenge

Okay--trying to get all discussion over here instead of on the other thread.
If we do it in Ann Arbor it will cost more, both for the room use and for guest rooms. I am waiting on calls back from 3 Ann Arbor locations to find out just how much more. For those who prefer to be in Ann Arbor, how much more are you willing to pay?

Hope this is helpful...I would like to get a consensus (or an arbitrary decision!) nailed down in a couple of days and start taking registrations!
Something to look forward to in the end-of-winter blah season!
I would prefer Ann Arbor, it would save me money since I won't need to spend the night. I could go to Okemos but it would have to be as cheap as possible.
Either weekend works for me. March would be good too.

Friends are like the walls of a house. Sometimes they hold you up, sometimes you lean on them. But sometimes, it's enough to know they're just standing by.
Count me in and probably one or two of my friends. Either location works, however I would prefer Okemos. Date I would prefer would be 1st choice - March 2. Second choice - Feb. 23/24

I'm voting for Ann Arbor, March would be great, but February could possibly work as well. I just want to get together and meet everyone and do some serious stamping too!!!
After calling around a bit it looks like the previous location, Holiday Inn Express in Okemos, is by far the cheapest.
Unfortunately, they have no availability in March, so I am going to go ahead and schedule for February 9/10.
Apologies to those for whom this isn't your first choice...I hope you can still come. If not, we'll just have to do it again, right?
I will start a list of attendees in the first post. You will not be considered definite until I receive your payment of $25.

Debbie, the previous location was the Clarion in Okemos - did you check them? I know when I was planning it, I told them what my cheapest quote was, then they beat it. I can probably dig up the name of my contact person if you want it, although who knows if she's still there. PM if you need some info!
Sorry it's taken me so long to get on this thread - this has been a crazy month for me.
I'm going to tentively say yes, I just have to check hockey schedules this weekend before I say definately.
And yes, Okemos is better for me as well :-)

I did find my file though - I was pretty impressed with myself for that!

I'm going to stick with the Holiday Inn...Comfort Inn was great last time, but now it is nearly twice the price for a smaller meeting room, and $10 more per guest room.

Oh, I want to come and play too!! This sounds like a wonderful time, and to be able to meet more SCS ladies who are local would be just fantastic!!
Is the Holiday Inn Express offfering discounted rooms rates, and if so, any ideas what the rates will be? I would be staying Friday and Saturday night.
I would be interested in doing the showbox swap and swapping with everyone. I would also love to help out on your "wish list". I could definitely donate some items for door prizes, either stamp sets or stamped items. I could probably be talked into hosting a challenge if need be!
Deb when do you want/need our money by? Just let me know and I will put a check in the mail.

Can I ask, if you *think* you can come, to post and say so? I'll put you on the list but this isn't a firm commitment. I just want an idea of how large a room to reserve before I sign the contract in 1-2 weeks.

Debbie, I would be staying both Friday and Saturday nite - Viv and I could share a room. I would love to participate in both the shoebox and regular card swaps.
I'm interested! This is just a few days after my bday, so what better gift could my hubby give me? I just need to check all our calendars and such. I'd most likely stay Fri & Sat. I'll also do some swaps. And what is a "shoebox swap"? I keep seeing that mentioned but have no idea what one is!
Also, I'm in Allendale, just West of Grand Rapids. Anyone interested in car pooling? And/or sharing a room?
