Custody night on Wed so dinner should be early. The child eats nonstop from the time she enters the door until the lights go out.. lol

So, I'll plan something quick for dinner. 7 will work.

There's me (lol..obviously...DUH!), Teresa, Michelle, and possibly Jukie?? (and obviously you). I think Ina and Melissa are going to sit this one out due to Ina's surgery.

So total tally is possibly 5 but make only 4 since that includes you.

BTW...I received a PM from Janet today that she sent us some love in the mail today. Hopefully it'll be here by Sat....THANKS JANET!!!!

I've been putting things in a box so I don't forget what to bring.
Does anyone have Thought & Prayers from page 52? or Circle Circus on page 129 or any on page 80?

Too bad I'm not coming, as I have 'Exteme Guitar'. I'm not sure, but I think I have 'Thoughts and Prayers' too.

Oops, cancel that, no 'Thoughts and Prayers'
If you would like me to stamp some 'Extreme Guitar for you, just let me know what color and on what color paper.

Yes, I wish you were well! Guess what?...I got my motorcycle stamp from ebay yesterday. Of course I tried it out already. I don't think they lazer cut it well enough as the back part of the bike comes out all black when stamped.

We wish you were coming too and NOT because you have the stamps. We'll sure miss you and we'll be sending you healing thoughts.

Hope all goes well tomorrow and please keep me updated!

Ok Ladies, I've gotta vent and hopefully you all can give me some advice on how to proceed.

DH's 101 yo grandmother is in a nursing home. She's been there for a few years now and overall it's been ok. The only incident was that a few months ago she got a rash that didn't seem to be going away. Turned out she was allergic to the detergent they were using and it took them a while to figure out and was not too cooperative when it was brought to their attention. I understand that the health care system has received a lot of cutbacks and whatnot so we didn't raise too much of a fuss. Anyways, on Monday night I received a phone call from my SIL telling us that their grandma was in the hospital. They received a phone call from the nursing home at 7am that morning. They were told that when the nurse checked on her in the morning she was unresponsive and "was not herself". The paramedics were called and they took her away. Beyond that, the nursing home didn't tell them anything else. Not even where the ambulance was taking her. It took them over 2 hours to tell my MIL where her mother was (that in itself was upsetting!) Obviously when they found out were she was, they rushed there. We assumed that her admittance was due to her age and ailing health. When my SIL called me at 8:30pm she still didn't know what was going on. She called me back at 9pm when her mom got home and told me why her grandma was in the hospital....THE NURSING HOME GAVE HER THE WRONG MEDICATION THE PREVIOUS NIGHT!!!! They gave her diabetes meds but she DOES NOT have diabetes!!! The hospital told them that they were lucky that she didn't go into a coma! She's been in the hospital now for 2 days while they flush out her system and make sure she's ok.

Obviously, we're EXTREMELY upset by all of this and want to take measures to make sure this does not happen to her or anyone again. This is just unacceptable....understaffed or not, when their negligence puts someone in the hospital, we've got to speak up and do something but we have no idea where to start.

I've tried to google nursing home regulations/regulators but I keep finding articles on different incidences but noone to call. Any thoughts and advice would be great.

Diana, I wish I had time to answer you properly. All I can suggest is that you contact you member of parliament, and he/she will know or find out which agency you need to contact. Possibly the ombudsman of Ontario might help too. Nursing homes are notoriously understaffed and staffed with poorly qualified people. They also do not get paid very well. I will tell you though, that even highly qualified nurses do on occasion make mistakes. We fill out medication incident forms and they are studied and documented and from them, we make policies to try and eliminate these types of errors. What can I say, I am so sorry this happened to your dear grandmother-in-law! Such a blessing it was discovered in time.

That's no fun, especially when you were counting on working on these cards this weekend. I guess, on e-bay, it is 'buyer beware'!

Call a lawyer.
All it will take is a letter to the nursing home, and they'll change thier tune. Threaten to sue even......

Diana, how awful! I would call 1-800-O-CANADA (that's an O and not a zero). They have always been very helpful in pointing me in the right direction.

Karen, WOOHOO!!! Oh yeah baby! I saw that this morning and will be getting DD the expensive Wilton set for Christmas.

GASP! I wouldn't know what to do. The person who accidentally gave the medication must feel just horrible. Is this a nursing home or a retirement home?

One is usually government funded and one is usually not. One you should be able to take care of yourself mostly and the other you cannot.

ahh.. i would guess that its a nursing home then.. since they're doling out the meds....
I'm assuming in a retirement home, you're kinda taking care of yourself.... am i right?

btw, I found a few martini stamps so you'll have a few to pick from.

yep..it's a nursing home and an expensive one at that. You'd think that would make a difference.

i hope they get thier act together.
You think when you put your loved ones into those places, that they'd treat them with the respect that they deserve. And treat them like humans instead of animals.

I'm assuming in a retirement home, you're kinda taking care of yourself.... am i right?

btw, I found a few martini stamps so you'll have a few to pick from.
I worked at a retirement home and am not a nurse but gave out the meds. I even did injections.

Can't wait to see the martini stamps!

How is grandma doing now? Any word?

Mommyof4boys - I am so sorry to hear about your relative, I don't know the Canadian system but I would suggest that your family documents everything now while it is still fresh in your minds, and make a formal complaint to the home, and state that if your concerns are not answered you will take it further.

Just as a reminder Mikes has 25% off tomorrow on everything including sales stuff between 9-12

If anyone wants to do a light brunch?
Thinking with kiddos in school and hubbies at work we can do soemthing for a few hours during a workday......

just an idea...

schweet!

Teresa, i don't know if you use unmounted stamps ever, and some of the martini stamps are unmounted. i'm putting an acrylic block with the stuff just in case. since I didn't think until now to ask and i'm going to be leaving in about 10 minutes to meet Christyne.
