I do this too. But this year I went to convention so I will be using those 4 sets a lot and just get paper and in-color supplies, so about 200$

Like Pipergirl I usually get my SU stuff from ebay as the new sets are just soooo expensive in the UK, and usually allow myself to buy one set of stamps a month. The only thing is that I always have to wait a while to get my hands on the 'current' stuff.

My very first order was during a Sell-a-bration 3 years ago and it was at the first workshop I attended... I spent $300! I really blessed that hostess! I didn't know that I could have earned all those hostess benefits myself! That hostess didn't even thank me... she just laughed and said that I was half the workshop total. I became a demo later. My biggest has probably been around the $500 mark. Yikes... it makes me a little sick thinking about that total now! It's really fun when the goodies come though...

So far mine was 264.00, but I bought the marker set and my demo gave us 50% off one item, so it was actually less than that. I'll be placing a 400.00 order in October but it will be a demo order as I am signing September 3rd.

Okay, just sent the order to my demo...$250.00.
It took me all weekend to look at the catalog, write down what I want, then try to reason with myself and the checkbook on what I could do and what I would have to do later. I'm getting all the incolors paper and inks, sharing the ribbon with my friend, many of the sale priced stamps and some accessories that I have to have, such as the scalloped edge punch! I didn't get any of the DP yet....I have so much of it now and I just don't use it as often as I should, so I'll wait to see if I really really need it! Have a great day.

I actually just placed my largest order (mostly from the retired list). It was $300, BUT I only started building my SU collection a few months ago. I found sets on the retired list that felt like "must haves" to me. Then I just rounded out the order with a few items so that I'd hit the Level 2 Hostess / $35 free level. I'm feeling a little guilty, but I think it'll pass

OMG! And here I anguish over eBay trying to get the best deal over used and/or new SU sets - and I feel guilty when I buy them! It's not like I can't afford them, I just feel guilty spending all the money I do because I'm not not only interested in card making - I'm interested in ALL kinds of crafts, esp. miniatures and I BLOW a lot of money on this stuff and I rarely EVER complete a project. Yeah, I'm sick - but you all are sicker (just teasing...LOL!) It IS fun, though, to open up those packages from the UPS man or the US mail...just like a kid at Christmas!

Question

Ok - I don't own any SU supplies. I have never been to a SU party or know of anyone that has. So before I start a search for a local SU demonstrator could someone just tell me what is so special about SU? I've seen some of the stamp sets on ebay - and thought - well yea, they're ok, but there are other art stamp suppliers that are so much more unique. I have accumulated alot of stamps and tools, all from other sources. So, what I am I missing out on that is worth hundreds and/or thousands of dollars? I think I might be tempted to host a SU party just to find out.

The biggest thing for me is that everything coordinates. We have cardstock, patterned paper, ink, ribbon, etc. that are all in color families so you can match or coordinate perfectly.

I think my biggest order by myself was around $300. I tend to just stick to the $150 range and get a lot of level 1 hostess stuff!

My first order, the one where I told my DD; "We are not going to spend money here tonight!" was $127 and then when I became a demo it was over $600.

I think the second or third year I was into SU! (my sister is my demo) I spent about $250 during Sell-A-Bration, using gift certificates and money I had received as Christmas gifts.

DH also splurged on my Christmas gift last year, he hit up my Wish List and spent about $250.

I think mine was around $100 or so, but that was mostly using Christmas $$. Plus it was during SAB, so I allowed myself to splurge.

Default largest order ever placed

My largest order was $262.94 and that was when I was first starting out in 1998 buying stampin up. I average around 200.00 every 3-4 months.

I love this company and the value and quality of the stamps and cardstock
are unequalled in in my book.

I'm ready to send my second party total into my demo and she will be
totally blown away.

HAVE YOU SEEN THE NEW HOLIDAY MINI CAT YET???? cute sets!

I spent $571 in May, but I can't get very much over here (in the Middle East). I had one BIG suitcase FULL of stamps, papers, the works. Plus I spent over $500 in Hobby Lobby and another $200 in Michaels. I'm visiting the States again in November----hope there will be some good sales on!!!

I'm in the same boat here, unless I'm out of something and really really need it NOW, I try to wait and place a couple of orders each year that are at least $150 so I can get my free stuff I can't pass up free stuff, it's girl math, if somethings free or on sale you can buy more, haha! I am going to place an order soon and I'm trying to find things to make it enough (not that it's really hard but I don't want to go OVER too much) but I'm going to try to have a party too, so then I can place another order and maybe not have to spend SO much all by my lonesome.

And I usually feel guilty about the spending....not after reading this thread, haha.

Thanks ladies!

Oh my gosh, $2000! That's a lot of stamps! I don't think I ever even got to a $500 order back when I was a demonstrator--not by myself, anyway. I would say there were a few $300 orders.

I haven't been a demonstrator in a long time, and I try to place one or two orders a year and limit it to that. They are usually $180-250 with tax and shipping. I just received an order a week or so ago and it was in the $230 range, I think. Six punches, yay! I think I only had four stamp sets in there and then ribbon and paper and ink/refill, etc. I was just proud that I used up an ink pad and even an inkpad refill. Go me!

I was very happy to see that three of the sets I ordered were ones that Beate ordered, too. I've been digging her blog lately and am very excited to make some cards based on some of her beautiful designs.

This is such a cool hobby. Almost as much fun as a new coloring book and box of crayons when I was six!

Wow! Some of these numbers are so impressive!!! I can't imagine dropping $2k at once for stamps. That would almost buy me the new Canon 5D Mark II camera that I'm lusting after.

I think I spent $250 once, and will probably spend about $400 before discounts on my first 30% order once I'm a demo. I'd better get my butt moving on my ebay listings so that I can afford it, LOL~

I spent around $300 on my first order with SU and the demo recruited me as a hobbby demo. It was during SAB, so I received a ton of free stamps with my order, plus for signing up as a demo. I was a demo for about 6 years. During that time my largest order was around $500. I bought a ton of card stock, ink pads, and stamps. After that my orders were usually at least $150 to receive hostess benefits.

Now that I have all the ink and card stock and am no longer a demo, my orders are much smaller and not very often. To me most of the new stamps are just like the old retired ones. So I've been branching out to other companies. I am getting ready to finally order the in color stuff. I do like to have color options and have always liked SU's color selection. I also like being able to purchase large amount of ribbon to match their ink and cardstock.

OK ladies, now how did you pay for these. I used cash (mad money), check , and a credit card on my orders when they are in the $400 range. What hubby doesn't pay attention to won't hurt him. LOL!!

my orders are tame too.. I spent almost no extra $$ when I became a hobby demo, and that lasted only 4 months (basically my only order was that first one...) My biggest order was around $100... I can't stomach spending more than that on stamps when that's groceries for a week! (or gas for a week)

Let's just say it was WELL into the 'Level II Hostess' ballpark, and leave it at that.

(No, I am not, nor have I ever been a demo.)

On SU up orders I would have to say I spend about $50-100 every couple of months. I am a CTMH demo for hobby and have to say I spend about $100 every couple of months with them as well.

Default how much?

Hmm... I thought that I was a big spender till I read this thread! My biggest order was in the spring during SAB. I got six free sets, but only spent about $115. Don't ask me how, but my demo worked it out - it was a big party with lots of orders.

Sadly, no party for the new catalog, so my order was $217 for this time. I have been placing two orders per year for the last four years and usually get a free level oone set each time. I thought that was a LOT! But I do spend (cough) quite a bit with other companies too....

Mine was around $10000 but that was with my first order after becoming a demo and using my 30%.
