Default wrapping a gift in a grocery sack?

I have a birthday present that needs to be wrapped. The card goes perfectly with the box that the gift is in (handy!) but I want to wrap the box and I was thinking Kraft-colored paper would be lovely, especially if I stamped it to go with the card.

The party is tomorrow morning and there's no time for me to go out and buy Kraft wrapping paper before the party.

If you were to open a gift wrapped in beautiful handstamped paper, would you be offended if you then found the name of a grocery chain on the backside of the paper?

I know...weird question for a Friday morning!!

musicmarth......I wouldn't be offended at all. For that matter, I've done it lots of times. I'm not into recycle (but some people think that's the idea), I just like the color and it's neutral and lends itself to super stamping.

No, I think it is a great idea to stamp on the back of a grocery bag. I'm just amazed that you even have brown bags. They just don't exist around here anymore.

I've wrapped things in brown bags often. It's a lot easier and cheaper than running to the store at the last minute for overpriced wrapping paper! And it is a great option for wrapping gifts for young men.

I've used grocery bags and used hemp/twine as the "ribbon". I've also used comic pages from the paper, especially for large boxes.

I would not be offended at all. In fact, I would be delighted! I love that look.

Hadn't thought of twine as the ribbon!! I'll be using that!

And I managed to find a kraft paper bag that doesn't have any writing on it! All good!!

that is a great idea!! i've done it a few times before, even just turning the grocery store bags inside out, and the recipients loved it! way better to recycle & make something homemade if you can than use generic purchased paper, i think.

good luck- share a picture if you can!

I know this is a little off topic, but someone gave me a gift and used one of those recycling tote bags that stores are selling (to use instead of plastic bags) as the gift bag. It was from Toys R Us--pink with a cute elephant. I thought this was a fabulous idea b/c it was probably cheaper than a disposable gift bag and I can now use it when I shop!
