Default Why you need Watercolor paper

Oh my gosh it make a HUGE difference. I started to make this mornings color challenge with Whisper White. The paper curled and the colors didnt blend nicely when, duh, I remembered the watercolor paper. If you were on the fence about WC paper, jump!

Here is the final card.

I agree - I love using watercolor paper, although mine doesn't turn out like yours! I saw your card just a while ago in the gallery, it's beautiful!!!

Wow! Huge difference! Think i'll have to invest in some watercolour pp! Hubby bought me a big set of watercolour inks and is wondering why i'm not using them... I figured I just wasn't 'good enough', but apparently my pp isn't good enough! LOL!!

Beautiful card by the way!!

Besides the curling, regular paper will 'pill' when using watercolors especially if your brush is extra juicy.

I bought my watercolor paper at Michaels. Gotta love those 40% off coupons!
Watercolor paper is wonderful for "direct to paper", too. It really shows a lot of texture.

Even though hot-pressed paper is closer in texture to SU! cardstock, I prefer to watercolor on rough or cold-pressed paper since it's more forgiving. The color isn't absorbed as quickly so you can move it around a bit with the brush.

I bought a cheap pad of watercolor paper at Mike's (I think I paid .97) I love it! I wasn't sure what a difference it would make, so I figured I'd check it out and paying a buck to try something wasn't too bad! I bet the SU paper is even better!

Beautiful work! Did you use basic black ink for the stamp or stazon?

Default yes, Watercolor

I have been stamping on Watercolor paper for years, it is amazing, and is the best for any project you want to paint with. It also gives a real artist feel to a card. I have bought the cheaper Canson paper at Micheals, it is 120 pound, but a very nice paper is the large Yellow Strathmore pad 140 pound cold press.

Stamp your image you are going to watercolor onto the cardstock. Lightly spray with Krylon Matte Spray (available with sealers and spray paints). It will dry in seconds. (best to shake the can for 30 seconds before you spray! as per instructions on the can)

The matte spray makes any ink waterproof (navy, gray, brown, etc.) and lightly coats the paper so the watercolors blend effortlessly.

You can watercolor with any medium - aquapainters, blender pens, paintbrushes, etc.

Because the paper is coated, it won't soak up the water as fast, won't curl and won't "pill."

Love my matte spray!!!

Kathy

I am highlighting this tip that was posted by a different member on a different thread ...... I just tried it a few days ago and I'm AMAZED at the difference the matte spray makes! I have all sorts of watercolor paints (liquid, cake, tube, etc.) and different types of papers and could never get the results I was looking for. The paper would always pill. When I tried this tip from Kathy I immediately fell in love with watercoloring!--no more pilling, and the colors really do blend wonderfully! And--the paper I used was regular old cardstock, which wound up working better than any specialty watercolor paper I had tried before! Please try this tip if you've every tried to watercolor and weren't please with the results....or if you've been intimidated by it and haven't tried before. This is a fantastic tip and you won't be disappointed!
