Default Why do you stamp/make cards?

I'm just curious why everyone does this. I do it because it's relaxing, and I love to make people happy by sending them a beautiful card unexpectedly.

I would have to say the same thing. It's such a stress relief for me and I love the joy that it brings ppl. when they receive a handmade card. Thanks for asking!

I make cards because it's fun and it's time where I can go down to my little dungeon (I stamp in the basement) and tune everyone else out for some time.

Plus, have you SEEN the prices of cards at Hallmark????? I can make cuter cards for less - once I have all the supplies. :P

I think I do it because I like to be able to give a card that no one else can give, something one of a kind. It is also a way for me to feel creative, almost like an artist. I can't paint worth didly but give me a stamp and I can do almost anything. Plus, there is that whole collector thing, the stuff is just so pretty, with all the colors and everything...

I guess what I am saying is, why wouldn't I do this?

I do it because I love being able to make a one-of-a-kind card in just a few minutes. Plus the recepient feels special knowing something was created just for him/her.

It's my creative outlet. I don't have an artistic bone in my body but give me some stamps, ink, cardstock, and embellishments and I can create something that brings a smile to someone's face.

You know, it is therapy for me to be able to sit down and actually accomplish something in a day even if it is just a simple card. I can look at it in the middle of all the Toddlerhood chaos and have immediate evidence and satisfaction of completing of something that day.

I too think it is a form of therapy...................I am not really very creative (I am so left brain that I think my right brain is sleeping ) I love to share a handmade card and how else would I rationalize all of my purchases!!!!!

Great question!

Because it's fun. I'm not the best card maker here (major understatement), but when I feel one is good enough to share, I really enjoy that part too! Thanks for asking; it's nice to share this hobby with other enthusiasts.

I enjoy making something beautiful with a few supplies. I'd say "something beautiful from practically nothing," but the word "nothing really isn't applicable when I look at all my stamping stuff!

I also enjoy the instant gratification that comes with making cards. Sure some cards take a few hours, but when you compare that to making a quilt for example, it certainly is "instant gratification."

Fun, relaxing, a creative outlet...there are so many reasons LOL! From the time I start making a card or anything else to the time when it gets done, my mind is so engrossed in it that I can hear/see/think of nothing else! Not to forget the pleasure I get from creating something - it feels so good to look at your own creation

I stamp cause DH says I have to. LOL Seriously, he says I am more bareable to live with when I stamp because it is my creative outlet, my stress releif. He can tell when I haven't stamped in a while because I get really moody. LOL
Seriously though, I started stamping just because it was fun, but now I stamp because it really is a stress releif. It is nice to be able to just sit down and stamp and forget about the rest of the world for a little bit. And then to have something to show for it in the end that will put a smile (hopefully) on someone elses face. I just love it.

I'll have to admit that it is therapy, but also it's fun to make individual cards for my 9 grandchildren and know that it was made just for them and reflects their hobbies, interests, sports or whatever they are into at the moment. Besides, they think their grandma is pretty super and "walks on water" because I can make cards for them

It was purely practical at first. I was a scrapbooker for about 4 years before it occured to me that instead of buying cards, I could make them out of my scrapbooking supplies. Doing that meant I didn't have to go to the store or spend money when I wanted to send a card. Now I make cards because I know those who receive them really really love getting them. Knowing I'm making someone happy with what I'm doing is a huge motivator.

I have always liked to create/make something with my hands. I can't do 'art' in the strictest sense but papercrafting is my present passion. I sewed my first top when I was about 8 yrs old. My hobbies/therapy ebb and flow-sewing, crocheting, cross stitching, crewel embroidery, plain embroidery, applique, quilting, etc. I can't just sit and watch TV-I more or less listen to TV. Besides making my Christmas cards, I just finished my daughter's wedding guest book quilt. (She just loves it that she can have their guestbook out for everyone to see and they can read all the comments/good wishes of all the people that are important to them!)

I can't do math unless it has to do with a craft. I can look at something that I like and figure out how I can make it-maybe not the way the instructions would read but the recipient is impressed. I do go to classes but usually 'tweak' the projects. (I have a friend that can duplicate the project but doesn't 'see' the potential to make it hers.)

As I told my daughter, I am having fun creating one-of-a-kind "art" for people. My friends say that they don't let their family touch my cards or 'other than a card' items I give them.

Like all of you ladies have said, it is therapy and an outlet for our creativity. Sorry my input got so long.

Long live the crafters of the world!!!

Same here....it's my therapy. My form of artistic expression.

I love to shop, and a sweater is $100, shoes are $100, purse is $100...but I can go buy like 40 different scrapping items, papers, stickles, brads, ribbons...and more for under $100 shopping spree. Same with collecting...I like that too...and I can collect Primas a lot cheaper than Hummels. (sp?) LOL

And then when I want something relaxing to do...I get to USE MY STUFF, not just put it on or stare at it!

Plus I love giving someone the perfect card just for nothing!

One of the biggest reasons I stamp is for the troops. It is something simple that I love doing that can bring smiles to many many people. I also have a couple other things I donate to that helps too. I just love making the cards...and I love that someone else can use them too.
Blessings.

I always have been making cards before I use to make them on the computer and now I do them all by hand. I love making them, sometimes I sell them to family and friends. I notice people like receiving handmade greeting cards from me.

O.K. ladies, lets cut through all this pretty rhetoric about creativity etc. and get to the real reason! I stamp and make cards and spend time on splitcoast because it gives me an excuse not to do my housework!

I stamp because I absolutely have to! I have always made stuff since I could first pick up a felt pen. My bedroom walls were the first to feel my creative blast!!!! Ever since I have made all sorts of stuff, sewing, knitting, crochet, patchwork, basket making etc etc. Then I realised paper was my real passion in life and the stamping came from that. I am only happy when making something. It doesn't have to be a card, it can be baking or growing veg in my garden. I regard it all as my creative outlet and can't function without it!!!!

In my whole life I was the "music" one in the family. Then I was introduced to cross-stitching and did that for years. Then I developed arthritis in my hands and cross-stitching hurt like heck. Then someone invited me to a Stampin Up party and I've been hooked ever since. ALL my friends order their cards from me and the joy of it all is indescribable!

This is exactly how I feel, Kathy! Through [scrapbooking and] stamping, I discovered one of my "hidden" talents!

Stamping is very therapeutic for me, and I get an adrenaline rush whenever I'm immersed in it. I absolutely love it, and my only regret is not having discovered it sooner!

You could be my TWIN! This is me to a tee. I have to be doing something crafty with my hands all the time. As far as needle crafts go, I've done it all except knitting (trying to teach myself, tho). Love to sew and quilt, love to paper craft and even do light woodworking (I'm a power tool junkie as well as a craftjunkie).
Back OT, I make cards because I love to give unique cards tailored to the recipient. While not everyone appreciates the time, effort and love that goes into them, the folks that matter know! It's another creative outlet for me as well. And now it's a time filler for me. I love stalking SCS and trying new techniques and products all you talented folks so generously share. Still haven't gotten the courage to upload anything, but I'm working on it!

because I like to give people unique and homemade things. I'll only make duplicates of a card if I'm making a pack to sell.

Being creative, just for the sake of being creative, makes me very happy

I love instant gratification art, and stamping greeting cards is the fastest way to it, LOL!

I love giving personalized art

I love that I can make something pretty, even if I cannot draw or have no formal art training

And, crazy tho it sounds, I actually love the process of holding a wood mount in my hand, applying ink to rubbah, and pressing it to paper. Seriously!

Amen to what she said!

I love giving a personal handmade card/gift to someone and seeing the delight in their eyes. It's the gift that gives back!

Stamp on, sistahs!

I have always been crafty/creative - owned my own Cross Stitch/Gift Shoppe for years. However, in the last 5 years - I am under DR orders to find a hobby that will reduce the stress! I jumped at SU and have been ever since. However, I need MORE time to relieve my stress. Not being difficult, but if I would spend more time actually stamping/creating, I would spend less time on SCS, which I believe to also be healthy!
Merry Merry to all!

For me, I have been so busy all of my life that I have never had the time to be creative. Finally, now I do...and I love it. I picked up both knitting and cardmaking just a few years ago. I like making cards, because I like to encourage others. I also enjoy knowing that even though I can't draw even a decent stick figure, that I am an artist in this way. I have loved cardmaking even more since I found SCS, because it is so fun to share my enthusiasm with all of the other stampers on SCS. And I agree with YellowRose...that it much more fun than housework. LM

I scrapbook because I love having all my special photos in a neat book that I've doodled, embellished and added my journaling too. It just makes my pics more personal and I feel like I'm 'recording' my life and the great ppl that are in it.
