Default Why do I need a Scor-pal?

I know that Scor-pal is a member company and I do not mean this in a mean way but why do I need a scor-pal?? Is is just to scor my paper for folding in half?? I've never had a problem with this. I didn't realize there was a need for such a tool. Anytime I need to score for a 3-D item I just use my trimmer and a bone folder.

Just curious. Sell me on it. I'm not sure I would spend $40 for a tool like this.

I haven't been convinced that I need one either. I use my fiskars 12" trimmer with a scoring blade when I need to score (which isn't very often).

That's exactly what I use with a scoring blade and with a bone folder.

I posed a similar question a few days ago. This is the feedback I got, just in case it helps...

I was at my Stamp Club the other night and saw it being used. We had to score a piece of cardstock that was larger than my trimmer. The Scor-Pal is a lot larger than my Fiskar Paper Trimmer, and a 12x12" piece of cardstock fits in it with no problem. It also has the scoring grooves and measurements on the top of it. It's on my Christmas List.

Robyn!!!

You do not have a Scor-Pal???!!!

OK, now that I've calmed down . . .

My first thought: Yeah, yeah. I do just fine with my 12" paper trimmer and scoring blade.

Then.

I tried it.

There is a definite convenience and ease of doing multiple score projects without having to move the paper for every score.

I *LOVE* all the projects featured at the site that include specific cutting and score line indications so *I* do not have to use my own brain!

It has become one of my most oft-used tools. If you love convenience and ease, it doesn't get any bettaaaah.

I know! Can you believe the girl who has everything craft-related doesn't own this tool?? I'll have to look into it and convince myself I will use it!

Thanks everyone. I'll check out the other thread, too.

I too have been wrestling with should I or shouldn't I.

My question is: if the paper is not cut exactly right, are the score lines off?

Why would your paper not be cut exactly right?

Default Believe and give it a real try!

Robyn, you know that old Christmas word...BELIEVE.....well take it from me this tool is absolutely incredible-and I wish I had the new version. This is way better that my Scor It and thousands of time better that my trimmer. Lines are always straight, the ability to score on angles and have precise measurements...well again I have both but always reach for the Scor Pal! Believe!

I'm intrigued as well. When I read the thread about what other non-SU! stuff they're wishing for, almost every single person has it on their list.

Unfortunately for me, I'm a very VISUAL person and really need to see something IRL before I get jazzed about it. I'm going thru the same thing with the nestabilities stuff--really want to see it "in action", esp. before I put out that kind of moulah!

Julie,

I guess it must be my trimmer because whenever I cut cardstock for a card, then score where I think the middle is, and then when I fold it is never even.

I have the Score It and my score is never in the right place.

Well, I don't know anything about the Scor pal but I do have the Scor it. And I really miss it when I go to card class and can't score my cards properly. And also, I can't believe you, Robyn, does not have either. I would have thought you would have both, hehehe.

Robyn,

I was convinced until I bought the Scor-Pal and used it. It makes nice deep scores like you would get with pre-scored cards. My Fiskars just doesn't do the same job. It is so easy that I now score my cards for my classes. I never would have done that before. There is no slipping or oops because you weren't paying attention. I guess it's for us "older" stampers who don't want to think about the mundane. It's also really cool for doing special things. My diagonal scoring always was off a little. Not anymore....

I like the Crop-a-dile too. It works great for arthritic hands.

Well, that definitely needs to go on your Christmas wish list!!! I didn't think I needed it ... then I got it ... and now I actually use my huge stock of eyelets!

As for the Scor-Pal ... apparently it needs to go on my wish list, including the directions so my family can order it!

I have the Scor-It as well. What I discovered was that it worked better if I centered my paper over the score bar in case the paper did not measure exactly 8 1/2 x 11 or 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 instead of just making sure it was at the 4 1/4 mark on one side. In other words, I would make sure that my paper was at the 4 1/4 mark both to the left and to the right of the score. I hope that made sense!

I think these scoring tools really shine when you need to do multiple scores on multiple projects.

OOh - Thanks for enabling me. My husband was just asking what I wanted for Christmas today and I was thinking about the Scor-pal. I think Santa just might bring me one.

Oh My gosh!!! I LOVE these smileys I just have to get them. Where in the world do these come from

And it is a huge yes (to big to fit in a post huge) that you need a scor-pal. Once you try it, you will wonder how in the world you ever made a card or anything else without it.
