Oooh, me me me! lol. I can't believe the price of the starter kit. It's cheaper than getting just the stamp sets alone! Then we will be able to preview and order from SAB and Occasions catalog on 12/1! OMG, I'm so excited!

The stamps in the kit or MDS by itself are both almost the cost of the sale priced kit! What a deal.

I take that back. I just added up the stamps in the regular kit and they are MORE than the cost of the starter kit!!!

Go for it. There's nothing to lose.

OMG!!! I was going to sign up because I have a huge order to go in and I figured I might do the hobby thing for awhile. With the great special, here I come. Thanks for the heads-up.

I just posted in the "How many stamps do you have?" thread that I'm about done buying stamp sets....I do want/need about ten sets but there is always paper, ink, ribbon.....

I LOVE SU too! I've researched lots of companies, bought but always come back home to SU!

You really should do it! If you have a huge order it's a good idea because you get 30% off your first order instead of the regular 20%!!!! I got a TON of stuff on my first order!

There is really nothing to lose! If you don't want to keep the demoship up (hobby or not) you just let it drop by not meeting your minimums. This is a crazy good deal!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just remember that with the IDA, some of you will have to drop your design teams and have to change your links on your blogs to be in agreement with the IDA, although I don't think anyone really checks because of all the demos out there now with blogs that are in violation of the agreement. It's not just about getting the products at a discount, it's about agreeing to follow SU's agreement.

Do you get to pick the stamp sets you would like as well as the inks you want? I have never been that sure of this.

Yes, you can pick what you want, provided it's same or less than what they're giving you. Download the starter kit form on this page. And it says on the form what you get and if you want alternatives, what limitations.

Is there a time limit for the first order at 30% off? I'd like it to go in during Sale-a-bration....more deals-hooray.

Thus why, sadly... I won't be taking part in this truly wonderful deal!

I've heard that there is recently clarification with the IDA that it's okay to mention other products, just not provide links to where they can be purchased? Or can demos not even mention other products?

Is there some place that has the IDA in "regular language"?

It has all been a bit confusing! It's not near as strict as people thought in the beginning! You can totally use and mention competing products and lots of people do well within the limits of the IDA. What they don't want us doing is one, linking directly to sites that sell said product (sites that have a shop now or shopping cart button) and two, totally hyping up the product (like "look at this cool doohicky I got! It's just the most awesomest thing ev-ah! You just can't live without it...go buy it now"). Ok, that's a bit extreme but you get the idea

Honestly, it just makes good business sense to not advertise and link to competing products and again, it's really not as strict as thought in the beginning. Hope that helps!

FYI, I sorta remembered there was a minimum to qualify for the 30% discount on first order. And here it is,

"Earn an extra 10 percent instant income on your first order of $150 or more when you place your order in the first 45 days of being a Stampin' Up! demonstrator. That means youíll earn up to 30 percent!"

But the rules are not enforced, which I find maddening. I became an SU demo earlier this year, but dropped because I accepted DT positions. I thought it was required and the honorable thing to do.

But I now see SU demo sites with live links for all sorts of non SU products, including blogs with a link to the demo's SU store who are also on DTs for other companies.

Ok, vent over. It just seems odd to me to have a rule that resulted in losing a bunch of demos and then look the other way.

It depends what you are selling (no competing products). Handcrafted items are ok ( if SU, they should use angel stamp).

I know, but I was just listing them. I can't really comment on how much they enforce them....although I think they expect people to just be honest like yourself Joan (And I don't think I knew you were a demo The system is not perfect for sure!!!!

And to whoever asked, yes the end of your quarter to meet your minimums would be the end of March because they don't make you meet the $300 within the quarter you sign up in.

And also the 30% is on a "workshop" size order at $150. I gotta tell ya though, there is rarely a time when I and a lot of demos don't order...kind of the magic number to get the freebees I'm off to do just that...I've had an order sitting there forever, I need to pull the trigger, hehe!

What happens if you don't meet your quota? I am not sure that I can find enough friends to place orders to meet the minimum. It would be great to get all of the starter items at such a wonderful price...but...is it really fair just to sign up to get the items with no intention of meeting the minimum? I would love to try and sell the products but just not sure how well I would do in my area. Any thoughts?

I see no problem with signing up just to get the product. It happens all the time when there is a special and even when there isn't.

Nothing really "happens" if you don't meet the mins. When you don't meet, the next quarter you go into "pending" which means if you want to stay active, you have to meet $300 plus an extra $100 (I think). Some demos actually do this on purpose....say they have everything they want right now from the big catty and the mini but haven't met it yet...they go into pending and then spend extra next quarter with the new mini. That make sense?

Anyway, if you don't meet that while you're in pending you're just dropped as a demo, that's it. It's really a win win, you get a good deal..if you do well and sell then great, if not you're not really out anything! Good luck if you do it!

And thanks, Mindy for all your answers! I will be joining your ranks very soon!

I'm thinking I really want to! Of course, I'm far to shy to actually hold workshops or parties, but I'm thinking of doing it as a hobbyist. I have a couple of questions, though...
say the first order I place is for $150 to get the 30% off, does that count toward the quarterly requirements? Second, how does being a demo affect your taxes?
